Give Me An Answer with Stuart & Cliffe Knechtle

3 жыл бұрын

The "Give Me An Answer" ministry began as an outgrowth of the dialogues Cliffe Knechtle has had with students on various university campuses throughout the United States. These universities include the University of Maine, Harvard, MIT, University of Florida, University of Texas, University of Wisconsin, University of Minnesota, University of California Los Angeles, University of California San Diego, Berkeley, Stanford, University of Hawaii and the University of Washington. Cliffe spoke on these campuses in front of the Student Union or Library at noon for five to ten minutes. At the close of his initial remarks, he'd open up the time for questions and answers, which usually turned into a two to four hour dialogue with students. His crowd size ranged from 25 - 500 students at a time, and between classes, new students would join the discussion. This is an extremely effective way to reach a large number of university students with the Gospel of Christ.

I have to disagree with Cliffe on one point. I would say that God cannot "choose" to not do evil. But rather God actually cannot do evil because His nature doesn't allow Him too. Also, if you talked to a Christian that was Reformed or in many cases a Presuppositionalist they would never use the "free will defense" for the problem of evil. Was the Frank Turek James White Debate Comparison video where they answer the same question in completely different ways and they are both Christians. Eric said that this moral truth or objective moral law is eternal and necessary and not mind dependent. Yet Eric never gave a single piece of evidence or a sound argument as why why morality is this way. He just asserted that it is objective or that it exists and is eternal and just is.

@@j2mfp78 The reason why I think that God CANNOT do evil is because it's not within His nature and essence. If God is 100% pure, holy, righteous and morally good and morally perfect and if that flows from his very nature.....then how would that be a good God if He has the capacity to do evil? God can't do anything. God is holy, and He cannot sin. The Bible tells us He cannot lie (Hebrews 6:18; Titus 1:2). Also, since God is eternal by nature (Psalm 90:2), He cannot stop being God. He cannot deny Himself (2 Tim. 2:13). God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He tempt anyone with evil (James 1:13) etc.

I don't find Peterson very interesting 🤦‍♀️ this guy couldn't touch Peterson for Intellect or honest reflection. Individual imperialist is exactly what he is. Stating there is no God is not an argument. Where are your original thoughts all I can hear is no conclusion. There is the usual arrogance coming through which is unique to atheists. He cannot admit he is the master of his own universe and worships his own opinion. Then defers to some 'other' source for moral standards. He is totally dishonest!! I cannot believe this ideology is in a classroom teaching.

@godislove363
@godislove363 3 жыл бұрын
@Gabriel Amadej I haven't spoken to one step ahead in quite a while on here I'm not always in agreement with him, but see a logically he is correct. He was not saying that if you have free will you automatically will do evil and you too are correct there are people through Christ or the grace of God that can actually avoid evil right choice obviously we are still Sinners regardless you may never shoot someone or yell the f word it's Helen who knows how your life has been but we have all sinned which is still doing evil the Bible is clear on that even if you only did it once I can't speak for your heart but if we do something against the Commandments of God or the transgression of Sin then we did Evil. Free Will is just that free will we are not robots God give us the ability to think for ourselves and it decide herself which way we're going to go Panera Road of good or the wide world of bad it is our choice. Just as sometimes we give kids the choice we try to train up our kids to know right and wrong just as me to right and wrong and hopefully they make the right choice there are times they will not. And then they have to accept the consequences of their actions just as we do. So once again I will stipulate Jack because we're free will individuals does not mean he was implying you automatically have to scan your evil has to occur in the way you said but it is natural unfortunately to be unnatural we are no longer sure Schulman's sure spirits of God and it was in the beginning and if we're not sure and we're prone to skin and we do have the free will choice to accept the beautiful gift of God except the Life of Christ give it on the cross for us for our sins that we have cost that we have chosen. Christ came and lived endless life for us and took on all of the pain and suffering as we would for us on the cross for those sins so we don't have to that was Christ Free Will choice. Amen to all of you.

90% of this discussion: Cliffe: Who defines right and wrong? Eric: No one. Cliffe keeps asking the question because he apparently doesn't get that unless there is an infinite regress of definitions or definitional circles, some things must be indefinable. Rightness and wrongness are plausible candidates for being indefinable properties (if any properties are).

I don't know if that's quite the point of thier disagreement. Eric isn't saying normativity is ungrounded or brute, i.e. unanalyzable or inexplicable. He tries to offer an explanation in terms of a categorical imperative several times. What his interlocutor seemed incapable of grasping was not so much that normativity is brute, but that it's something like a Kantian transcendental (which btw is fundamentally anti-Platonic), a necessary structure of (practical) rationality, and so renders the "who" unnecessary. I would have liked to have seen Eric go a little harder on the point that it's not just that normativity doesn't need to be grounded in a "who", but that it positively cannot be grounded in any "who" (he hints at this when he compares moral facts to mathematics).

The "prove it" part is exactly where theists usually drop the ball as well. I disagree with both parties on this, but it was funny to see Cliffe try to argue against a position that is very similar to what he argues himself.
