I'm still confused as to how both of the brands managed to become big.

german products. basically whole europe. eastern europe who was bossing fell after world war 1. poland, rom, czechslovakia etc. Otherwise there was serious competition among them for supremacy. Then japan came and sent everybody packing( collaborating with usa like nobody in the history of mankind) switz has their watches, holland also invents, uk has rollce, aston martins, french and italy have fashion and what not( lambhorg, ferrari, french trains and planes and wines)

Very descriptive historical look into the shoe makers. Good job. I would go with Adidas.

TBH these are the 2 brands I buy the most being that I feel these have a classic look that fits me.

I have 6 pairs of Puma, a pair of Adidas, 2 pairs of Woodland. Never new there was clear edge of rivalry in my shoe cabinet.

Been there last year. Bought few things in Adidas, as it had some "outlets" outlet, so it was considerably cheaper. As for Puma, at the time, it was very expensive and I am no fan of any of it's designs.
