I was blessed to see these talented guys several times in the seventies when they opened for Lynyrd Skynrd. They are such an underrated group. Paul the bass player was as good as it gets man. Another Man's Woman features his baseline and epic guitar solos at the end of it. Their entire catalog over many albums is some of my favorite music. Hope you check out more if their work. Great memories.

The Classics IV (Stormy) which you reacted to a few weeks ago, also wrote and recorded the original "Spooky." That was in 1965 or 66, I think. It's the only version as far as I'm concerned. It's the version used in movies, commercials, and tv shows. Thanks, Harri.

ARS not only did Spooky, but they were actually very much related to the original group, Classics IV in that, past members J. R. Cobb (guitar) and Dean Daughtry (guitar), along with Classics IV producer-manager Buddy Buie moved on and formed ARS. Dean Daughtry had been in both Classics IV and another group called, Candymen. When the group formed, he brought along former Candymen musicians, Rodney Justo (singer) and Robert Nix (drums). They also added another guitarist, Barry Bailey and bass player, Paul Goddard to fill out the group, musicians they had known/met, many of which had also played for Roy Orbison as 1 point of mutual contact. I hope all that made sense.
@davidd5407 Жыл бұрын
I believe a man named Buddy Buie was part of both bands in some form or another.....hence the fantastic ARS cover of this that, IMO, is better than the original

A couple of commenters pointed out that the song was first done in the mid-1960s by the Classics IV, and it was a big hit. My understanding is that the Atlanta Rhythm Section contains two of the original members of the Classics IV, including at least one of the guys who co-wrote the song. So the song is technically a re-make, but I like it pretty well. Both versions are easy on the ears.

Here's the original Spooky: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hHu9gnmifLWlraM Some of the Classic's IV ended up in ARS, which is probably why they decided to do it again. The two versions are very similar, but very different, too. I got a new sax the other day, so I'll have to try to learn the original. The original Spooky has turned into a Halloween favorite, as some of the background vocals and sounds make the song sound like there's ghosts it in. 😀

Quite a few artists have recorded this song "Spooky". It started out as just an instrumental song in 1967 & lyrics were added later. Atlantic Rhythm Section do a good version of the song in 1979 but the most famous & best version was done by the Classics IV in 1968. The ARS had some great songs such as "I'm Not Gonna Let It Bother Me Tonight", "So Into You", "Large Time" (tribute to Lynyrd Skynyrd), "Do It Or Die" etc.
