Are Salt Water Hot Tubs Worth the Investment? A Comprehensive Guide

I bought the Hotsprings flash one year ago with salt water system. I'm having the technician out next week to convert to non-salt, regular system. I just could not handle the stress of getting everything in balance. My previous spa (from 25 years ago, pre-salt water) had a cartridge that needed to be replaced every few months along with an ozonator and believe me, it was much easier to maintain and felt better on my skin. I'm going to be happy getting back to the basics. Thanks for your video, as it confirms my belief!

@@atlantahottubcenterI’m thinking about shutting off my salt system and going to chlorine and using the water conditioner you sell. Would that keep me from drying my skin out and the water feeling good like the salt system? This is our first hot tub so I have never ran chlorine, and I’m finding that this salt is a lot of work constantly having to lower our ph and constantly changing the numbers on my salt system sometimes setting a 5 is ok then it tested to low so I would up it to a 6 and then it would be to much chlorine, I have had it! And my skin has become itchy the last couple of weeks even after adjusting my ph. What do you suggest? We live in Nebraska and on city well water the alkalinity is 240 and it took me forever to get it down.

@@jeaninewebb7904 Good afternoon, I think you should try it and see how you like it. In my experience salt water hot tubs are a lot of work so I am not surprised to hear this. I would try the @ease product. They have a ball that floats and when you need to change the chlorine cartridge it flips upside down so it makes it pretty easy to maintain. We sell it on our online store and of course other places like Amazon have it as well. The pH levels being off can cause your skin to become itchy or irritated. I would suggest a product called pH balance plus. Now, don't forget the plus on the end, pH balance plus. Once you get your pH in the ideal range every week add 2-3 tablespoons of this to help maintain the levels. Hope this helps!

Good morning, Congrats on your new purchase! For a hot tub, I would just use standard test strips. There's really no need to get fancy unless you're having a one off problem. Hope this helps!

what if you have a salt pool? is there an issue if people keep going back and forth and bringing salt into a regular chlorine hot tub?

Good morning, salt or sodium chloride just turns into chlorine. However, pools have different challenges and use different chemicals at times. I would suggest rinsing off before jumping in the hot tub or at least draining and refilling the hot tub more often. One more thing to note is that anytime you have a problem such as algae in your pool, you’ll end up having the same problem in the hot tub since you’re going back and forth. Hope this helps!

@@atlantahottubcenter Thank you, and you are so wright! I had the Ozone for 25 years and was very happy, then bought a new tub with salt water, hate it. The tech is coming out next week to convert to Ozone, at a cost of $600. Expensive mistake buying the salt water, at least for me!

Good evening, I am an old school chlorine guy. I keep my levels around 1ppm with the @ease system and I can't even tell there's chlorine in the water. In my opinion, that's the best way to do it or if you're using chlorine granules, test and add a couple tablespoons throughout the week and keep the level around 2-3 ppm. My biggest suggestion is don't go crazy with chemicals. I wouldn't add a bunch once a week like a lot of people tell you. Spread it out and keep it all within reason per the test strip. I too smell a rat with these expensive china salt generators. ill stay with the good ol chlorine granules! Quick question - which granules do you think are the best on the market? is there much difference? right now i have spaguard and HTH on hand, and I acctually prefer the HTH because they have a less intense smell. they both spec a 56% content so not sure whats going on there. thanks for any info.

@@sean7193 Good afternoon, if you have an intense smell then you've added to much. Remember, it's important to stay in the ideal range. This includes having to much chlorine in the hot tub. Instead of adding it just once a week, try splitting it up and adding it a couple times a week. I think you will find you have a better result. Hope this helps!
