I have the Atlas as well as a Palmgren 400 milling attachment. This was an excellent tutorial. As a bonus, the Mighty Mag was moved from the drawer in which it was languishing to the lathe. Thanks, Mr. Pete !!!

You must have read my mind. I purchased an Atlas 12" on Thursday, and it has the milling fixture with it. Your video helped me learn to use it, and give me more confidence in the value of my purchase. I really like your videos, and have used them to teach the high school robotics team, that I mentor, skills they need to build their compttion machines. Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! Ray M. L. A. I don't own a lathe or a mill but I still enjoy the videos. Someday I will have a lathe and I feel I will have a head start getting to know how to use it from your instructions. Thanks.

I would think this video series would be preserved on cd's for both education and prosperity. I hope nothing happens to you tube before I get my lathe and have learned through these video's how to get out of it what it is capable of. Thanks for taking the time to post these video's. Your passion for machine tools is obvious and comes through loud and clear in your presentation.

The best tutorial and training I have ever had on lathe, parts, and methods. Its like covering the century of lathes and milling in weeks. Thanks Pete.

Great info, it's helped me tremendously in getting started with the Atlas milling attachment. I made myself a little 3D-printed plug to go in the base to keep from losing those pins.

Glad I watched this,,,,thought I wanted a milling attachment for my 12 x 36,, but not at 350 bucks,,, and seeing how much strain it puts on the lathe especially the tool post holder,,, rather keep using my 1938 delta drill press milling machine I converted.

When you said "wrong way Corrigan" in video 2/3 I nearly fell out of my chair. My father used to say it years and years ago and I always assumed it was just something he had made up, or something that came from his own life. I looked it up on wiki and found the story about Mr. Corrigan. Thanks for the flashback!!!

Thanks for these instructions. I have a 12" Atlas that I bought in the mid '70s. I learned my basic machining from my Dad who worked as a machinist for at least 43 years. I still have the lathe and even though I don't have a decent shop I still use it periodically. Have made parts for so many things over the years I can't remember them all. Now I want to find a milling attachment like you demonstrated. Thanks for the videos and hope you are well and enjoying your skills.

Hi Mr. Pete. Great video. Might be nick-picking, but Z on a lathe is actually the spindle axis, and the cross slide is X. So the milling attachment would be Y. Take care, stay healthy.

Fantastic Instructional Video !! 🤗 Mr. Pete, I have a request for you to do a video. I would like you to do a video on your Atlas 12” on the proper way to set the Back Gears into proper adjustment with the Spindle Gears. I recently acquired a Atlas 12” lathe just like yours and when I pull out the knob on my lathe to rotate the back gears spindle into what should be the proper gear mesh, my back gears do not lift high enough to make proper mesh with the spindle gears, therefore the gears just take one another ! Thank you in advance !🤗 Sincerely, George Antonaros

again I reaaly like you videos. i have the atlas milling attachment and haven't used it. thanks to your video I know have the learning curve shortened a lot. How about a video about buying a bridgeport mill. lots show up in my area but alway concerned about buying someone's problems. i would like to use the mill not buying a project to bring it back to correct working order. thanks again for your time in doing these videos.

I enjoy your videos very much. I believe you have mislabeled your axis. I was always taught that the "Z" axis was with the spindle. Example vertical on jig grinder, jig bore, and vertical mill. And horizontal on surface grinder, ID/OD grinder, lathe and horizontal mill. I know on the cnc lathe I program the "Z" axis is longitudinal feed. Please correct me If I am wrong. Thanks for all the work you put into your books and videos. Simple Model Steam Engines one and two are great.

Love the vids, always find things I never knew)never learned that in school) I do not have a big lathe like a craftsman(no room), only a little one, a taig, but I do have the milling atachement, no collets just use the cutter in the deep 3 jaw and I must say it comes in very handy(altough mine can not rotate), most of the time I only use aluminum and sometimes with some overhang but I could not have made several things without it.

Tell me again why you can't use power feed in the Y axis? For a guy who has used these on the regular, both Versamills and these milling attachments, I tend to try to use power feed whenever possible. Even when you have the rotary cutting tool mounted in the milling attachment or have the Versamill attached, you still have power feed available. Wasn't the speed a bit low for that end mill?

MR Pete, Truely love your very educational videos, there are so few young people interested in this stuff these days, its a dying trade and we are paid less than the idiots that draw up impossible to make stuff??? As bad as I hate to correct you, in the WCS, world coordinate system,as used in CNC programming the Z axis is always tward or away from the machine spindle The X axis is the cross slide Z is the apron and the up/down on the milling attachment would be Y axis

Kohala Iron Works Case Right on, Me too. I just started to machine last year when I bought my first lathe, it's an Atlas 10 X 36. I used to have my own autobody shop in Mapunapuna behind the United Truck Rentals yard, so I can paint and of course rub out...we never had a great booth so we always had something in the paint all the time either bugs or dust. Been a long time since I held my Sata though...going on 10 years next month, wow...time flies. Looks like you guys have a good gang going, right on. I'm glad you are into shooting videos and showing folks how we do it over there :) That's cherry!...Aloha

I program CNC lathes on a daily basis and the ONLY time Y is used is for cutting hex or other shapes with live tooling which is basicaly a mill program with the Y moves converted to a C axis and a G code I dont remember off the top of my head to make the machine act that way!! Its Crazy LOL
