That's a lovely restoration; it's nice to see older machines back to their best and getting used again. I have an old Denham lathe I'm about to start a restoration on so have been busy watching videos like these. Great work.

Thank you so much for making this and posting this - I'm about to embark on restoring the 1947 model 820 version of this lathe (the only difference I can see is flat belt instead of a V belt for the spindle drive). I will probably study this frame by frame.

Beautiful work. I'm working on a 1963 Logan 6565 14" and was surprised to see differences, as well as similarities. All cap screws on mine. I really like the color. I went with Massey Ferguson Gray because I didn't want to have to have the original color mixed up. This isn't a full take down because mine was never in a production shop and is in really great condition. Only in two home shops. I make 3. Enjoy.

I have this exact lathe. Are there places I can have it restored at?
@alexlitsch80283 жыл бұрын
There are businesses out there that do restoration work on things. I don't know any specifically though. I by know means am experienced in doing such a thing. I just dove in and hoped for the best. You really get to better understand the machine by doing the restoration yourself as well.

Hello dear friend .youtuber .. if you have the kindness what liquid do you use to clean the lathe from dirty rust and paint because I want to clean a machine thank you very much .
@alexlitsch80283 жыл бұрын
After scraping, wire wheeling, or otherwise removing paint and grime, I used acetone for final cleaning the bare metal before painting.

Excellent work! I have a similar Logan lathe. Did you have to remove the pullies from the shaft to get the belt on? Thanks!
@alexlitsch80283 жыл бұрын
Yes, I pulled the spindle out most of the way to where I could get the pulleys off then slipped the belt on and reassembled. Fairly easy to do.

Tell me please what paint did you use on this?
@alexlitsch80283 жыл бұрын
I used Sherwin Williams Industrial Enamel tinted "Nighy Owl" grey. I also added 0.60 parts Flood Penetrol to 1 part industrial enamel to thin out the industrial enamel as it is pretty thick otherwise.
@billgeorge78043 жыл бұрын
Please be careful when removing old paint from that era, it often contains lead. Nice restoration though.

I always love these restoration videos of machinery but I sure hope people wear respirators because paint back then wasn't exactly lead free. All that wire brushing and sanding will ensure you aren't around much longer, If you blow your nose and discover your snot is black and bloody you are not protecting yourself. Please for the love of God USE PPE!
