This was one for the books! When the wind started blowing and the tower started to sway, I almost lost it.

Always fun climbing those old fire towers. The views from up top always make the bouncing and swaying worth the effort.

Agreed! Can't beat the feeling you get once you have experienced this view. Good times!

The views from Shuckstack Fire Tower are so memorable, especially back to Fontana Lake!

Thinking about that climb too of Fontana is no joke! The views make this totally worth it. Can't wait to go back!

This was one of the scariest and incredible moments of the trip. Just before this, we ran into a bear on trail. The heart rate was definitely up!

That indeed looked sketchy bro, but what an amazing view.

This was very scary and rewarding at the same time. We were so far in that if anything happened we would have a heck of a time getting out.

Oh man! I loved going up this tower. A little sketchy but glad I did it.

With it shaking and everything seems like it would be pretty scary!

When you climb this, I can't wait to see your reactions! This was very scary at first, but totally worth it to see the views and to conquer this firetower!

@@MetroOnTheMove We'll do it eventually! Maybe in the fall it'll be really pretty then

Awesome! Since I was 4 years old I’ve always had a fascination with fire towers. We have 4 remaining in east Texas. Built by the CCC in the 1930’s and called lookout towers here, sadly they won’t allow you climb them anymore. Thanks for sharing.

I’ve only been up a few and this one was one for the books. Hope you get a chance to climb shuckstack one day as it was totally worth it.

Got my heart rate going! I'm afriad of heights, but I've been working to calm those nerves. I did Angles Landing a year ago and loved the outcome from it! I think I might do this hike tomorrow (if weather is good)

Hope the trip went well. Going up this tower is sketchy!!

Awesome views. Would have been fun to watch a heart rate monitor as you climbed! I've only been up in short towers and can't imagine the sway up there.

We should plan a meet up and go up this tower!

That fire tower looks scary for sure so exposed. Awesome views.

You guys should go check out this loop! You would love these views, but the hike up is a little intense!

There are a couple old rickety towers over that way....that one does not afford much in the way of 'protection' going up and down. + I think it's always windy up there...
@MetroOnTheMove Жыл бұрын
It was my first time and at first, I didn't know if I was going all the way up or not....glad I did because the views were amazing! However, I don't think four people should be up there at the same time.
@safromnc8616 Жыл бұрын
@@MetroOnTheMove I would totally agree w/that sentiment.

Me and a friend got caught in that tower just as a major storm hit. We had no service to check the weather beforehand. One of the craziest hiking experiences of my life!
@MetroOnTheMove10 күн бұрын
That must have been quite the experience for sure. It was trippy just walking up the stairs. It definitely sways with the wind.

I take it you dont like heights? Seemed to be creaking a bit.
@MetroOnTheMove Жыл бұрын
Heights don’t normally bother me…swaying steel structures in the wind…plus thin wood at the top holding 800 lbs does. It was pretty fun after I was back on the ground.
@DCOutdoors Жыл бұрын
Would be an awesome place to see the world from, if one could stomach the climb.
@MetroOnTheMove Жыл бұрын
It was pretty sketchy going up! Once we got up there, we also had to distribute the weight as the floors were less than sturdy. What a way to go out right?
