If you can buy from Hobbyking check out Mini-Q or Turnigy TZ4 for the brushless ESC and motor, they come with plugs for each other. Otherwise, you'll have to do soldering one way or the other. Hi Beaver's Hobby: For a beginner who wants to learn drifting, would you recommend Atomic DRZ or Kyosho MA030? I am currently learning on Kyosho MA020 with FOW and rear fixed diff, I can drift a circle but have a hard time drift around a fixed target. Looks to me AWD drifting is like sliding where as RWD drifting seems more precise with front wheels always pointing at the direction. Would you agree RWD drifting is easier and more precise?
@BeaversHobby5 жыл бұрын
You probably find it strange and more sliding because you don't have to counter steer much. That's how AWD drifting is and it's far easier than RWD. RWD is harder, slower but more elegant and looks like real car. Mini-Z are harder to drift than other cars in general because they don't have much steering angle. But with practice you can drift very precisely. Try changing the springs to front soft and rear hard. They'll make the car easier to initiate drift and easier to hold the slide. Don't go too crazy with the throttle, keep feeding it gently to maintain the slide. If you want to get a new car I suggest either Atomic DRZ or Atomic AMZ. DRZ if you want to drift like a real car but keep in mind that this is slower than AWD and also much more challenging (and more rewarding). AMZ if you want to have fun sliding precisely and easily.

@BeaversHobby5 жыл бұрын
@@andaia2 No, the gyro that comes with the kit is already enough. It's actually better than some of what you can buy separately too. Using normal tyres on DRZ is nothing strange, it'll just turn back to Atomic AMR with weaker front suspension (DRZ is based on AMR as I mentioned in my review kzbin.info/www/bejne/gonckJuVrtSkr5I ). I mean it drives OK but I have locked diff so it doesn't take a corner well unless I go back to open it. (It comes with gear diff but I locked it for drifting.) The massive steering angle is a bit of a problem but reduce it via EPA on the transmitter and if your servo is good enough you won't even have to change the steering system to have touring car. But really, if you wish to turn it to touring car, just replace the sliding rack with standard servo horn and connect the knuckles directly to servo. You'll have more direct and precise steering.

Cool videos..and I wish I would've just started with one of these! So I have a few questions and maybe you can help.. I have a 1/10 hpi drift car but I'm really researching a drz to use indoors. Saving money is important so every little bit helps. Would I be able to use the transmitter and receiver from my HPI in this? Do you really need the gyro? I'm already set up for NIMH batteries and frankly I don't really wanna switch to lipo. It looked like the ESC you got was able to do both correct? Like maybe the 4.8 volt mini's.. I emailed atomic and they said their cars would only do lipo because that's what the battery holder was meant for? I already have a charger for NIMH, radio/receiver, so whatever money I could save would be nice. I guess if it won't work then there's not much I can do! Any help is appreciated, thanks!
@BeaversHobby5 жыл бұрын
You can use any 2.4 GHz system in this car. However it depends on the size of your receiver. If... say, 2x3cm diameter and the height is not more than 1.5cm, then it should fit. You'll also need to take it out of the case and flatten the pins. From my past experience 2.4GHz receiver from Sprint 2 is pretty big and won't fit. For the gyro, yes, you need it for RWD car. As for the battery, you don't have a choice but to switch to lipo for small cars these stuffs runs on 7.4V. Nimh is too big and heavy. However there're Mini-Z that uses AAA (I'll talk about later). Small lipo is not expensive but shipping costs a lot (especially here in Europe) also charger can rack up the cost so I understand your concern. Actually for someone who don't want spend more for the electronics, take a look at WLtoys K989 or Mini-Q Q7. They come with all the battery and charger you need. Since you already have transmitter you can buy Mini-Q Q7 brushless ARR and use your own transmitter. But if you want a RWD car, it's going to be expensive if you don't already have a bit of modern equipments. For all in one package you can look at the Mini-Z AWD. Right now it's on discount so it's probably around $180 complete package in RCmart.com . It uses nimh AAA battery so you can keep using your old charger.

First of all a big thanks for the great videos you make. I'm planning to build my first ever drift car, just to use it at home for fun, and was thinking about the mini-q but, just realized that there aren't many spare parts available. Due to this I'm seriously considering the atomic DRZ, it's more expensive but looks like there shouldn't be any issues with spare parts or upgrades. I have a few questions from a drifting noob: -1: do you recommend the car without electronics plus the "cheap" electronics or is it better the full combo from atomic (car+esc+gyro+servo) -2: what 3500kv motor do you recommend (if its cheap would be great ;p) I want to drift at slow speeds in reduced areas so don't need to go very fast -3 I have a hobbyking hk-gt2b 3channes transmitter, should I have any problems to use it in this car with the hobbyking 3channel receiver? -4 and last ;) which wheels and tires do you recommend (again, I'm a noob)? I like the ones you use from the kiosho mini-z, should those perform ok (they recommend 0 to -0,5 offset rims and I think those are -1,5) Sorry to bother you with so many questions. Thank you again for your help!! You have an amazing channel!!
@BeaversHobby5 жыл бұрын
1. If you don't mind gyro being a bit big this cheap set is pretty much on part with the Atomic. Smoothness of the motor is the difference but everything is within your control for sure. 2. Go for the Atomic, it's the only affordable 3500KV motor but I got it and soon realize it's really powerful and in the end I set the throttle limit just like what I have with the Surpass Hobby 6000KV. Again, difference being Atomic 3500KV is super smooth and power delivery is a bit quicker. The downside is you have to use it with Atomic electronics to ensure ESC has enough power. 3. No problem at all. I actually only 2 channels because I don't want to accidentally tough gyro gain and only adjust it with on-unit dial. 4. 1-1.5mm offset is good for drifting and also looks good with regular body. What you see in this video is 1mm offset from RC-Aurora, material is Delrin and they are super strong. Which brand to get depends where you buy the car. If you buy it from Atomic website then get AMZ wheels with it will save you shipping. Otherwise Mini-Z wheels are good, RC-Aurora ppm-rcracing.com are good and GL wheels are great and the coolest of all (but shipping is very expensive) gl-racing.com/store/awd-parts-c-1/ . Tyres are included in the kit, all narrow and they are already good gor RWD drift. Also, no problem with long questions. Just ask if you want anything more.

Thank you answering so quickly! I think that I will go for the kit with the electronics as it looks a bit more tidy. I can't find the motor in the webs I want to buy the car (they are out of stock) and in my country dealer it costs 40€, so may go for the surpass 6000kv motor you also suggested. Two more questions (sorry again): Do I need a card to set up the gyro? I have experience with helicopter gyros only. Do you mean wheels with positive offset or negative, I can also see different sizes, the correct ones are 8,5? And what is the approximate size of the battery? Thank you again!!
@BeaversHobby5 жыл бұрын
@@Alvaropiloto You don't need the card to setup gyro. There's only one dial you can adjust by flat screwdriver on the unit. But you can use programming card to setup ESC. It's not necessary since stock setup works really well already. The wheel offset for Mini-Z AWD has only one side and it always portrayed in positive but I think compare to real car it's negative.
