Also this pre-roll takes audio, while FX6 only does it in S&Q without audio. Sony has a master class explaining this. To me using the A7SIII as my daily shooter while still have the luxury of pre-roll when paired with Ninja for wildlife is a game changer.

Great video: Quick question: can the Atomos Ninja ProRes record on 4K 120fps on the Sony A7S3??

Hey Ryan, can you click the ninja to lock your autofocus?

Not for the a7S as far as I’m aware

Hi Ryan. I see you shoot pre roll with your Atomos Ninja and Sony a7 siii. Can you make a movie how you do your setting for that or tell me how to do it. I try to do it. But when I do the record with pre roll, it just record the screen of my monitoir, so you get all the information on the monitor screen on your video files. So frustrating :D I also try to set the setting on camera to external output - Raw Output (on), but then I cant choose pre roll record at all. Thanks for your time and help :)

Hi Christer, I just came across your question here and am not sure whether you have fixed it. But it has something to do with your camera setting. In the HDMI setting, select clean HDMI output instead of Display info. That way the HDMI only output clean footage without all the settings etc. Hope it helps.

I've been eyeing these for months, still not sure if I should get one. Good to hear your thoughts

Maybe something to keep on the wishlist as your YT channel grows? One side benefit that’s nice for photography KZbinrs is the ability to record your camera screen with all the information displayed like menus and focus points and whatnot for education purposes in the field.

@@RyanMenseWildlife Exactly. That's why I've wanted one. Looked for deals during the holidays but nothing really on these Atomos that I could find.

Used ones pop up on Lens Authority now and then. Right now there’s one for $450. Still have to kit it out with the batteries and storage and everything but it’s $150 saved to start. That’s where I bought my Shogun Inferno.

Have you done any frame grabs to use as stills? I wondered if the frame grabs at a higher frame rate would be better. Thanks very much enjoyed your video!

Really informative video. I know there's a little bit of lag with the Ninja V and other camera models. Is there any delay with the video signal from the A7Siii?
@aerofart4 жыл бұрын
Hey Ryan, I have the Shogun Inferno (with SDI ports as well as HDMI), and while I really enjoy the great bright and detailed views, it is a bit of a burden to lug around, and yes it burns through batteries. It’s good to know that the Ninja V is more energy efficient. I’m itching to get one and sell my Inferno.
@RyanMenseWildlife4 жыл бұрын
You’re using the a7R IV, right? That might make sense to get the Ninja in place of the Inferno. I use the Shogun Inferno with my FS5 because it’s the one you need to record 4K 10 bit 422 and also ProRes RAW files whereas the Ninja V isn’t compatible for those things on the FS5 with no SDI.
@aerofart4 жыл бұрын
@@RyanMenseWildlife Yes, I'm using the a7RIV. But I also have an FS5 that I'm thinking about selling and replacing with the Lumix S5. I really like the FS5, but I'm just not happy with the fact that it's not really a 4k-capable device, or at least I haven't figured out how to make it work well in 4k.

Great video! Very insightful! Question - have you ever experienced dropping of frames with the ninja while recording? I heard some people experiencing it. What size ssd do you use as well? What’s the longest time you’ve recorded in one take? Thanks!

Learned a ton watching your video Ryan. Really appreciate this review! Beautiful footage too! P.s. can I ask which fluid head and sticks you're using with your 200-600? (and if you're happy with them?)
@RyanMenseWildlife4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! The fluid head used with the deer I think was the Manfrotto 502AH with some old Manfrotto tripod. The ducks were with the Libec T72 tripod and H38 fluid head. I paid like $80 for the 502AH and I guess for that price it’s ok but you get what you pay for. It’s not very good with starts and stops in panning and the whole setup is shaky given the focal lengths being used. I usually have to edit around the issues or fix a lot of camera movements with stabilization in post. So I’m not happy with it, but... $80.

did u ever get the skipped frame kangaroo?

I saw it once while messing with all the different recording options doing the preroll time test.

@@RyanMenseWildlife yea i returned it. didn't wanna chance that randomly happening
@RyanMenseWildlife4 жыл бұрын
I guess I can understand that worry. I really didn’t think of that happening until you brought it up here and I remembered. Maybe because I wasn’t out in the field when it occurred so no harm no foul. Then again I don’t think to return my camera when it misses focus just once and I lose a shot. Did it keep happening to you?
@adventureproductionz4 жыл бұрын
@@RyanMenseWildlife yea man i tried different ssd's, different formats, etc. but the kangaroo would still pop up randomly and since it can't record 120fps along with having to do noise reduction yourself with pro res raw (which is a huge pain in the ass) i just decided to stick with my smallhd and use the internal all-i on the s3. also the operating system on smallhd is way better than the ninjas in my opinion
