14:30 we do have the small “inverted ice cream cones” here in the United States but they are used on smaller road i.e. residential road or single lane roads with low traffic the construction barrels there are used more in the highways because they are bigger and can be seen farther away and also if need be they can be filled with water to help slow down cars if one should happen to unintentionally decide to rather abruptly enter the construction area.

I live in Oregon, and have lived in Washington. The scenery is exactly as it should be. Very well done. As a side-note. Dashed lines at least in these parts means you can pass in the oncoming lane. With double solid, you can't. Dashed and solid means the side of the road with dashes can pass, but the other lane can't. "Suicide lanes," a third lane in the middle of the road, aren't to be used for passing, only for turning onto a side road. Hopefully that made sense.

Like eddogg said, the area where those two back to back bridges are located is called Deception Pass. I was visiting my son in Skagit Valley and we went over there. I walked out on the bridge with my wife but I couldn't get the nerve to go to the railing and look over. You also were very close to the Boeing mfg plant when you hopped on the ferry which I also took after visiting the Boeing site. This is really cool and nice detail. At minute 22 so I'll have to keep watching for more.
@alanhyt794 жыл бұрын
Been there, and I did look over. It's an unforgettable adrenaline rush. We know exactly why the speed limit is slower there. It's bad enough when cars drive by on the bridge at 30... the bridge moves a bit and the wind adds to the terror. No way I'd want to be standing on that long bridge with double trailer loads of lumber flying past at 50mph. I'm already gripping the rail when a Mazda Miata cruises by at 30.

@nerezza59435 жыл бұрын
They can be called shopping centers too. There's a particularly large and well-known one near me (north side of Houston) where the stores identify themselves by the shopping center's name instead of the roads they're off of. Basically the shopping center or strip mall is owned by some sort of entity that rents out the space to businesses. The business gets the benefit of a building shell already set up for them, parking space, and adjacent businesses to help attract prospective customers to their area.

@27:00...Mackinac Bridge in Michigan is a 5 mile (8 kilometer) long suspension bridge connecting Michigan's lower and upper peninsula. I mention it because the two inside lanes of the bridge are metal grates as well. Imagine that on a massive suspension bridge :). The engineers did this because the Mackinac Straight is known for high winds and therefore lots of things like that were done to give it much more stability in those windy conditions.

FYI, on the road markings in the states. Double yellow solid line, means that there is no legal passing on either side. Solid yellow line on one side with intermediately spaced yellow lines on the other means, one side (with spaced lines) can pass the other cannot. Only intermediately spaced yellow lines mean, passing on either side is legal.
@whataqtify5 жыл бұрын
Well I went back to what you said and now I'm not sure what you meant. "White on the outside with yellow bits in the inside"
@Bendigo15 жыл бұрын
White lines are the "fog lines" always represent the right hand side of the road. Yellow defines left side. Either color if its solid you should not cross it if its double lines its illegal to cross dashed on one side you can cross from the side with dashed lines. Single dashed lines can cross from iether side. Standard in pretty much all of the states.

@NazbolCaliphDonaldaddeenTrump5 жыл бұрын
16:20 yellow lines are always to the left edge of traffic, and white lines are the right edge of the lane. In the USA its either double-yellow for two-way roads, solid+dotted yellow for a passing area, or just plain dotted if both sides can pass. Meanwhile in Canada, its the same thing, except that streets within towns have single-yellow solid lines in the middle (US has double in town)

Roundabouts are actually quite common in Washington. Didn't used to see them back East. They're called traffic circles out there and they're starting to disappear because there have been so many accidents. Somerville Circle in New Jersey is one example. Three major highways coming together in a multi-lane circle is just asking for trouble.

I play Euro Truck Simulator 2 as a way to relax, I have modded it through the Steam Workshop so I have have some of my favorite American trucks, and a few mods to improve graphics or add real companies and such. Hey Squirrel!! @16:06 You wondered out loud regarding the painted line system in the US I think? So, the line system is largely universal across the States. White lines on the outside are borders for the actual road and shoulders for all roads. For interstates/freeways/limited access roads, the solid yellow line on the left simply divides the roadway from the median/left edge of the roadway, including for the ramp/slip roads. For roads that are not divided (roads that are not freeways/interstates) such as a standard 2-lane road, the yellow center lines are often doubled and vary in solid or dashed patterns to denote passing/overtaking rules. For a "no pass" zone where traffic in either direction cannot pass/overtake, the yellow lines are both solid. Sometimes one yellow line is solid while the other is dashed. The traffic on the side that is dashed can overtake while the traffic on the other side cannot. Occasionally, for longer straight sections of 2-lane road, the 2 yellow lines reduce to 1 yellow, dashed line allow traffic on either side to pass. For wider, 3-5 lane roads in commercial areas, you can see a set of double solid yellow lines that are spread out, looking like it could be another lane, to control oncoming traffic away from each other in more congested areas. Also, you sometimes will see a middle lane created with 2 single solid yellow lines on the outsides of the middle lane with yellow dashed lines to the inner sides of the solid ones. Of course, these lanes are only for making left turns across on-coming traffic. Some nutter drivers will sometimes use these lanes to overtake, potentially causing accidents. Thus, these lanes are sometimes referred to in the US as "suicide lanes"!!! LOL

Steel bridges (maybe a few older iron ones in the Northeast) are quite common in the US, just like any bigger structure was built with steel framing, considering the massive steel production the US had, so a strong, relatively light(structural elements) and in this case readily available, so kinda cheap. Also, those aren't motor homes, they're MOBILE homes (might be called other stuff depending on the place). Motor homes are like truck/buses dedicated to living facilities and can move on their own power, so you don't need a pickup truck pulling a trailer.

@dantheman95655 жыл бұрын
"Should"? I mean "would usually" might fit better.
@alanhyt794 жыл бұрын
We locals call it I-5 because its full name (what we call it when it's naughty) is Interstate 5. The interstate highway system was built back ~ Prez Ike's time. The highways ending in 5 run north/south and the numbers increase from west to east (the next N/S interstate to our east is I-15, the next is I-25, etc. The interstate highways that run west/east end in 0. I-90 is the northernmost, as the numbers decrease from north to south... I-80, I-70, etc. Our "routes" are more like state roads, e.g., Hwy 20 is also known as State Route 20. But if you were here, or anywhere along the I-5 corridor, and you said Route 5, most people would translate that to mean I-5. If there's a state route 5 (SR5) then probably only the people who live along that road would be confused.
