Woah, that point about stories within stories relaxing expectations and presenting new affordances really struck a chord... Plato was the first to come to mind, but your fascination with the fictional bands in your novel opened up a whole new space for me. I've been fascinated with the interplay between irony and sincerity lately, and framing one within the other is a delightfully metamodern approach 😆

A spanish philosopher that I like says something like "the main reason i read is to read sidenotes, "filler pages" etc" (heavily paraphrasing + it was in some random stream + in spanish - i think it fits the vibe) and i thought it was interesting and true. Not sure if that was the context that was being talked about, or if it's the thing i got reminded of but it's like the mirrored phenomenon to stuff like ChatGPT and its summing up, Blinkist, those kinds of tools. Makes me want to ask "people in general" the question "why are y'all so focused on the 7 key takeaways?". Part of me gets it but another part feels like it's And the "frame within a frame" reminded me of why i like traveling and traveling videos. I think the "traveling" frame is a good outer frame for so many things: A small youtuber i used to watch had some videos i loved that were basically him riding his motorcycle talking about dating, answering questions, talking about happiness. Something about the context of traveling the world on a bike makes for these long stretches of empty road where he was just thinking about random shit, had time to answer questions, etc. It's not just that context bc even before he traveled the world he was doing these motovlogs talking about his Meetic dates too lol but i think the travel context heightened the effect for me. And a big youtuber couple i watch a lot lately is IMO very successful in part bc of this frame within a frame. There are several eye catching factors that drive ppl in (the traveling, the girl has a deep voice but looks very young, the guy's older so it's quite the age gap relationship, he's argentinian so he's very charismatic lol) but i think the "tension" - if you will - holding the channel together is their relationship, the small ways they interact with each other, their quirks, how they evolve together, all that. At least that's what i perceive that draws me. When i see the notification, yes, there is always a mild curiosity to see what new country/city they're at and their perspective of it, but I mostly wanna watch *how* they do whatever they do around there

Building a collection of excellent side notes is cool. Also there is something freeing about making it a nesting doll of intent where the Sidenote can unveil a deep truth without the burden of being the “main thing”

talking about frame within frames, you are like dr. strange but you unveil inherent magic of life itself. it’s almost like a teleportation lecture lmao

Have you read Man and His Symbols? Jungians are described as communicating as though a bird flying in upward spirals around a tree trying to paint it from all angles before revealing the top (conclusion). This is said to mirror the method of communication from the unconscious. Great verbal baby calming during video lol I feel like I can only calm my daughter by moving around!

I don’t think I’ve read it directly but I’m broadly familiar! and thanks ☺️
