@drone_tech_reviewАй бұрын
Thank you @tonysimek. Yes, I'm taking a risk calling out these high-powered folks but the relationship between Stefanik and Skydio CEO, Adam Bry, the Skydio's lobbyist with a big budget, Joe Bartlett, they're just out to harm the US public. petapixel.com/2024/07/09/skydio-ceo-denies-lobbying-to-get-dji-banned-in-the-us/ Compete with better products, use taxes and tariffs if absolutely necessary. But an outright ban on a key piece of technology (with no current alternatives) is outright cowardly.

This is incorrect. The Bill passed the House of Representatives and then it went to the Senate. The Senate removed the DJI verbiage. Now, the Senate version goes back to the House for reconciliation. The Bill will go back and forth until both sides of the bicameral congress are satisfied with the contents of the Bill before passing it along to the president for signing into law. If they cannot agree on the contents, the Bill will die. So, it has not failed but it's looking like it will.
@drone_tech_reviewАй бұрын
You are correct. It is not 100% guaranteed. But the Senate has shot it down and there is now a microscopic chance that House is going to try to sneak that back in.

Still the Drones For First Responders acy, which will ban ALL Chinese assembled UAS in 5 years.
@drone_tech_reviewАй бұрын
Now that bill is so absurd I would say it has ZERO chance of moving forward.Even the name of the bill is deceitful. I will predict that Chinese drones will get tariffed or taxed to give US manufacturers a chance at competing on price. But no way will they ban drones to harm US industries, jobs and recreation.
@automaton450Ай бұрын
@@drone_tech_review Rep. Stefanik (R), sponsor of the bill, her former national security advisor Joe Bartlett left government service to become the Director of Federal Policy at Skydio, who stands to get millions in government contracts from the Chinese UAS bans - so the loop is closed! She is just the 'sponsor' of the act, I would bet he wrote it for himself and Skydio. If ANY ban needs to happen, it should be on Skydio!

@ToxicGamer86454Ай бұрын
You gave your interpretation of the proposed bill but you didn’t show any actual evidence to support your claim. The actual bill is the best evidence and you didn’t post a link to the bill. For all I know you’re just spewing propaganda by taking a proposed bill out of context. You flat out accused the bill of protectionism with zero evidence. I don’t doubt that ‘DJI’ was a term in the bill but you provided no evidence that DJI is a victim of US protectionism. Edit for some context and a counter narrative. “The legislative move to exclude DJI from the NDAA stemmed from escalating anxieties over how these drones might inadvertently serve as conduits for sensitive information leakage. The core concern is based on the apprehension that DJI drones, by virtue of their sophisticated data collection capabilities, could funnel critical data beyond U.S. borders, directly threatening national security. This isn't a sudden revelation but a culmination of growing unease regarding the expansive deployment of these drones in sensitive sectors. As drones have woven themselves into the fabric of both commercial and governmental operations, the imperative for stringent oversight has become undeniable. This action, therefore, is not just about a ban but a decisive step towards safeguarding the integrity of sensitive data and, by extension, reinforcing national security in an era where technological advancements are both a boon and a bane. DIU and other agencies, as well as private individuals, have demonstrated data transfer is taking place, and has been for many years.” It isn’t about Joe Nobody flying a drone over his son’s football game. It’s about DJI drones being used in sensitive security situations and the possible collection of sensitive data that could be used by foreign adversaries. I figured it wasn’t as simple as you’re trying to make it out to be.
