Hi Emma, I'm glad you got to explore some of our outdoors, the Lake District is beautiful. But dang, please consider taking navigation with you. Apps like All Trails exist and even have this Esk Hause loop to Scafell on, or at least the relevant OS map and compass. I might be wrong but I cannot stress this enough - you should not be hiking in trainers in those conditions. Get some proper hiking boots, Mountain Rescue get called out so often for people with inappropriate footwear. But massive kudos for heeding the advice of the local guides and turning around - a lot of people wouldn't have done that. Glad you had a great time, but please keep yourself safe :)

Thanks for your kind caring words! I was using fat maps for the trail but them it stopped loading. Normally i’d prefer hiking boots but it was a fairly spontaneous trip. The hike itself was fine in my shoes but definitely if i had gotten to a point of really having to scramble I wouldn’t have kept going in these. Thanks again! I hope i can go back when i can have a little more foresight

Hello Emma. I just found your channel. You walk and talk well. Well done listening to the advice of someone else telling you it's not safe to continue, some wouldn't take any notice and just carry on. Good call. I hope you hike in Wales in the future. We have some beautiful mountains and waterfalls here. Keep sharing💚❤️ I'll follow your journey😁👋🔔👍

One of the main tourist routes up Scafell Pike goes via Upper Esk Hause (you just missed it by passing the shelter at Lower Esk Hause). Anyway, going along the big cairned path from Upper Esk Hause to Scafell Pike, after 5 minutes you cross a trickly stream issuing from the purest spring in the Lake District. Calf Cove. It is marked on most maps. Scafell Pike is less than a mile away and not much higher This spring's water is the elixir of life. No bugs. No chemicals. No need to purify it. Drink deeply from it. Fill up your water bottle for the rest of the day. No need to lug water up from the valley. Calf Cove never dries up. And congratulations. Getting slightly lost in the mountains is so often an enjoyable and more memorable experience.

I came across your channel and really like your adventure in the Lake District. There’s a lot of good advice in the comments for beginner hikers. There are free map apps for your phone such as Osmand Maps or Outdooractive that can help you plan and navigate. I use them all the time in the uk for walks. Very helpful when the weather is poor. All the best in the UK!

Great for getting out there. Next time, plan your route, take a map and compass and know how to use them. Lastly, dress for the mountains and not the local supermarket, your footware at the least was not fit for the terrain.

@emmaketeler Ha, great stuff. You enjoy it while you're here. I wasn't trying to be pushy or anything, but we're up in the Lakes 4-5 times a year. The weather can change in an instant. A couple of years ago, we started from Wasdale Head to do Pillar. We started at the valley floor at 25 degrees in shorts and t shirts. Within 2 hours having reached one of the tops, we were in full winter gear as the weather changed, absolutely pissed down with rain, and all of us were really wet and cold. Good luck, and hope to see you on the tops! Cheers, Ozzy.

@@emmaketeler trailrunners are the best footwear for hiking, lightweight, grippy and if you avoid goretex although they will get wet they will also dry really fast. Pair them up with waterproof socks

The app all trails really helpful as you can download offline maps so if signal goes can still use gps to give rough position. Think it should be acknowledged that taking that advise of that guide wouldn't have been easy but definitely the right choice. Still got to have a great day out and see amazing views 🎉
