@@zombei_kid The great thing about the isopods is that they double as a cleaner, and as a pet! But I have a question. What do you do about cleanup? Obviously they clean for you but there must come a time you need to change out the substrate regardless, right? If so, do you just.. throw the isopods away? And if THAT is so, do you keep some of them to make sure they repopulate? Or, do you never change the substrate ever? I am really curious. I'd feel bad if I got a snake, then got isopods and threw them in the trash when cleaning lol.
@jparris14225 жыл бұрын
Cat Poke Usually in a bioactive enclosure you would only remove and replace the substrate if something really bad happened, like an extreme mold or fungus overpopulation that the microfauna couldn’t control. If you absolutely had to junk the substrate you could probably get out some of the isopods, but when you want to dispose of the dirt you should kill off the microfauna with diatomaceous earth or similar substances before throwing it out.

I’ve had a phobia of snakes all my life. Last year I decided to try to challenge that fear since I moved to Florida and there are snakes and lizards everywhere. I held a snake for the first time about a year ago and have been watching Snake Discovery every day this past semester. I can honestly say it’s helped me so much!!! I love seeing all the snakes and am my fear has significantly gone down. Still terrified of bigger snakes and get ill whenever emily says anaconda / conda morph, but I genuinely enjoy watching these videos and have such a soft spot for snekkies now.
@Thurston862 жыл бұрын
Since it’s been 2 yrs since you posted this comment, is your phobia any better now? I wasn’t exactly afraid of snakes before discovering this channel but I’ve come to appreciate them a lot more since! After 4 years of watching Snake Discovery I recently just acquired a bearded dragon (my first reptile) who had been abandoned in an apartment. This channel is 100% the reason I’ve gotten into reptiles. Isn’t it amazing what Emily & Ed have accomplished with their channel?!
@gabbiedoe63592 жыл бұрын
@@Thurston86 My phobia of large and venomous snakes remains the same; however, I have become quite fond of small ones. I am able to hold and touch them, and I get excited when I see them in the wild (I don't hold those :). I would be very open to having a reptile in my home in the future, which I definitely would not have been before. I actually went into the snake house at the zoo recently and was able to stay inside until we got to the big snakes. Then I got lightheaded and had to go lay down outside. That was definitely huge for me, though, to be able to even go in!
@Thurston862 жыл бұрын
@@gabbiedoe6359That’s awesome! Going inside the snake house is definitely progress! I have an (irrational) fear of moths and butterflies. As a child I was forced to enter a butterfly conservatory and it only made my phobia worse. That’s why I don’t recommend anyone trying to force a phobia out of kids. It’s quite counterproductive. The way you’re going about it is by far the best way! I think education is the key, which is why channels like SnakeDiscovery are so important (not to mention the programs they run IRL). It’s difficult to fear/hate something once you see how cute they can be (I.e. hognose snakes!). I hope you’re one day fear-free of even the bigger guys! Live long and prosper! 🖖

Aww congrats to Ryan and Erica! I actually watched that bit twice it was so cute ^-^' also, those isopod breeders are really cool! Ooh and the Bowlands? Python (the velvety black one) is SO gorgeous, the cow is cool but the super dark, midnight colouration and chonky head shape of the other python has won my heart. She is absolutely gorgeous.

The First vendor was so nervous at first. His hands where shaking...he did good though Edit: since some misunderstood my comment: I didn't mean that in any mean way. It's kinda cute to see that, I would probably shake to. Aaand he stopped shaking g once he got comfortable so I'm guessing that he isnt sick or any thing.

@@petrescuework-difficultcas6581 he stopped shaking after he got more comfortable. I didt say that to make fun of him or anything. I just thought it is funny how normal people react to cameras and how the audience (we) dont see the big deal about it at first but if the roles were reversed it would be the same. But I didn't want to put that in my comment

I will admit that bugs disturb me a bit, they have since I was young but that woman's enthusiasm for the isopods she produces was actually infectious, I'm actually really intrigued by them now! You can tell she loves what she does and she has a love for the animals she works with. Of course credit also goes to the guy with her of course because you can tell he's just as enthusiastic but there was something about her that really impressed me haha.
