It’s interesting to hear them referred to as Shingleback or stumpytail lizards. In WA, I’ve always heard them referred to as bobtails, or just blue tongues. Wonder if it’s just official name vs colloquialism, or if it’s a state thing.

Here in South Africa we call those millipedes "shongo-lolo's". They breed like crazy here and all hatch towards the end of Spring (I'm in a small coastal village on the east coast - some mornings I spend a good 10min moving all the "shongo-lolo's" safely off my driveway so I can take my boys to school) 🤭🪱

Hey! Great video but just a tip on the millipedes, I wouldn’t co hab them together as the pink dragons (I believe they’re the orthomorpha species) can produce cynanide as a defence if stressed out and with the size the Giants are in comparison they will do. Potentially can harm the orthomorpha during molting if they’re digging around. You can co hab millipedes of similar size and for the giant africans I’d recommend other large African species and keep the pink dragons on their own😄

@Kevin Courtois you can just fly with reptiles if you go with the right airline. Delta is really pet friendly they have allowances for cats, dogs, and birds and I think that reptiles are just never mentioned because people don't think of it. I"ve never had issues with Alaska or United either. The TSA doesn't care, hand them across to them when you go through the xray so they aren't put through the belt and they will check them out. Stack the deli cups in your backpack and slide it under the seat in front of you and you're good. Keep the aisles clear and follow your state guidelines. No reptiles to hawaii or overseas

It's incredible that the bobtail lizards are so rare in the states! I work within a national park in Australia and I move them off of the side of the road when I drive to work!

That shingleback (which is weird since we call them bobtails) looks very very different to the ones we get here. I often have them in our backyard, but least the ones in Western Australia are a lot more slim and less dark, faciniating seeing how different these American captive bred shingles look

@@selectidiot I know they're called shinglebacks, I realise I phrased my original comment a bit weird, I meant it was weird to hear them called that rather than what I usually hear them as. Always interesting to see what different states call them/other animals found across the country. Like quendas/bandicoots

Maybe Shingleback is the proper name in identifying the spiecie and the bobtail lizard is a common name for them? Not sure.

oh the Shingleback! I have 3 (I'm in Australia), and they're not super easy to get here either because they only produce 1-4 (normally 2) babies a year. but yes they are that chill, they're also known as the "sleepy lizard". and to add to what he said about sexing, the whole Tiliqua genus is harder to sex, and the species T. rugosa (Shinglebacks) can be pretty hard. You can use contrast dye and Xray or ultrasound to identify hemipenes.

also, Shinglebacks, like Beaded Lizards, have osteoderms.

It's crazy to think that even someone as well-traveled as Emily wouldn't have held a Shingleback when it was one of the few reptiles I ever got to handle when I lived in Hawaii (the place with the least opportunities to handle reptiles, LMAO) because I volunteered at the zoo there and they had one! I even have a shed from its tail!
