My grandmother has a wonderful setup using these, I recently opened them up to look for aging components and not a single thing needs to be replaced. The tuner looks like it just came out of the factory, such a shame that nothing is built like this nowadays.

Way back in the olden days I had a customer with a new "All-Transistor" stereo console who argued that it didn't have to be plugged in because, "You don't need to plug transistor stuff in." I asked her where the batteries were and she told me that was my job to find out! When I plugged it in and it started working she still insisted it did not NEED to be plugged in. No amount of reasoning, and telling her to read the owner's manual, would convince her. She refused to pay for the house call because I "didn't fix it." I imagine she went through this with another tech after that. The only thing in the universe that is unlimited is stupidity.

Any recommendations on common areas to crap out on these amps? I've recently come by an SU-8044 with distortion on one side and a SU-8055 that blows the main power fuse as soon as you turn it on. Neither has any obvious / visually burned components. Figured I'd ask someone who obviously knows what they're doing before just probing around test points with the schematics.

question, how do you adjust the idling current?

This amp used power module ic. Everything is internal. No adjustment.

Good God....please tell me your kidding about the person not being able to find the 'Any' key!? I heard another version of that about someone not being able to find the '11' key when wanting to dial 911..it is scary out there lol! Great video as always 12Volt.
@12voltvids8 жыл бұрын
+Scott x I'm not kidding about the "any" key. It actually comes up more often than one would think. Compaq actually has it in their FAQ.In this case the offender was a relative of mine whom got his first computer in his late 70's and just could not figure then thing out, so I was the one that got the phone calls multiple times a day. Incidentally he no longer has the computer. I took it away, it is sitting in my garage

+12voltvids Hello friend, I have this saved amplifier because the stk0039 be hurt if I put the stk0049 that is one of the replacement work well ? since stk0039 are very hard to find. who guides me thanks
@12voltvids8 жыл бұрын
+Gabriel R As far as I remember the STK0029 and 0039 had the same pinout. So you could use the higher powered 0039 in place of the lower powered 0029, but the 0049 had a different pinout and is therefor not directly replaceable.
@gabrielr42708 жыл бұрын
+12voltvids ok in a book replacements he tells me that 0025..0029 ... 0049 ... 0039 ... are replacements although the 0025 and 0029 are lower volts and sends 0049 a little more than 0039

+12voltvids and true that the amplifier will deliver 100 peak watts or pure lies?

I think that it is time to get rid of the ADSL/DSL and switch to FTTP(Optical Fibre to the Premises) and maybe it would be a good idea if your neighbours did the same.
@12voltvids8 жыл бұрын
DSL still has many years of life left. The newest installations are pushing 100+ megs over copper, and with v.fast it is possible to get close to 300 megs over short runs (say in an apartment building where they put glass into the com room, and fire up a dslam) Company I work for is putting fiber in the big city, but the burbs where I live it is probably still 5-10 years away, because DSL works so well there is no reason to scrap it yet. Glass going into new subdivisions, but existing stuck on copper for awhile. Glass has some big headaches too for existing buildings. Most people are not happy having their homes wrapped with cables, and holes punched into walls and equipment hanging off walls. New construction they pull fiber to a main panel, but for existing this is not the case.
@12voltvids6 жыл бұрын
Will be able to do that soon. Pure fiber is rolling out in my town now. Expect it to be here within 6 months, and then I will be off copper. It's rolling out for everyone but I will have to wait for 3 months after the roll out to get it done, as I am not letting contractors in to touch my stuff. They will never figure it out. I will do my own install, but I have to wait 3 months after the completion of the area before I can book my own install.

It is getting harder and harder to find new parts these days. The manufactures don't make spares beyond the production run.

Double check your link plugs on the back are in all the way (idk the correct name for them but they're plugged in on the back of the unit) I've seen if they're not plugged in you wont get sound. If they're not there you can get away with using a patch cable or a piece of wire

technics mplifiers are really nice cheap amplifiers they sound amazing with verry low thd
@Turborider6 жыл бұрын
The price depends on the model you buy. There are or were really cheap and simple ones but also very nice (and expensive) high end amps. I own an Technics SU-8099k wich is out of the same series as this one shown in the video but that was the best HiFi amp they had back in the late 1970s (exept for the mighty SE-A1 wich was about $25000). It was well over $5500 in todays money. Just see for yourself: beyercomputers.com/files/Technics%20SU-8099k/images/TechnicsSu8099k_inside.jpg

btw the amplifier shown in the video was around $260 in 1979 wich is about $900 in 2018

So they went to the expense of repairing the amplifier that got fried? And doesn't the DSL interference go against radio interference laws?
@12voltvids6 жыл бұрын
I guess you weren't paying attention at 0:50 where I said "This is a couple of pieces of MY equipment" DSL interferes with AM radio. It doesn't go far, but because there are wires in the wall, if your radio is close you will hear the noise. Plasma TV interferes with AM and shortwave radio too. Not much you can do about it. Read part 95. This device may not cause harmful interference and must accept any interference received including that which may cause undesirable operation.
@infinitecanadian6 жыл бұрын
12voltvids Oh, so DSL radiation is short range. I’m still in the process of learning, so please forgive questions that may seem stupid.
@12voltvids6 жыл бұрын
@@infinitecanadian Relatively. Vdsl uses frequencies between 200khz and 17mhz so it can kick up a bit of noise in the background.
