Way back in 1978, as a recently graduated guitar major, Pat Metheny was starting make some real noise in the guitar world. The opportunity to hear him in concert was not to be missed. I certainly came away impressed by his talent, but the one who really blew me away was this unknown keyboardist by the name of Lyle Mays.

I was so incredibly sad when I found out Lyle Mays died 😢. A truly gifted musician who will be hard to replace. Metheny + Mays is such a natural fit.... they were together for so long. Even though they had solo projects and collaborated with others, they always worked best with each other. RIP, Maestro Mays. You left us with beautiful music.
Not "hard to replace"... impossible to replace. He belongs to the ages now...

@@ChrisBCartagena Hard to imagine both so close together.. they were my two favorites.. I think of Lyle with his "moody" Steinway and Chick with his "bright" Yamaha. Was stuck on "Long Life" kzbin.info/www/bejne/gJ22k2CMjKppsJY for several days before I heard Lyle passed (pulled CD as it had been a while since I listened to his solos). One of my favorites by Chick is short solo "Where Have I Known You Before".. a lot of emotion in two minutes. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hWOYiKBqZ9Jmp6c

My exact feelings about it. I heard it for the very first time very late at night, while it was snowing in the middle of a tiny village lost on the Andes mountains. From then on I realize that I don’t want to spoil that memory, listening it in any other mood. This song IS that distant, dreamy moment in my life
