Yeah I learned the hard way about Nissans, the newer Nissans anyway. I was a Nissan guy my whole life up until just recently when I got my 21 Altima. The worst part about it, besides going to have to eat $8000 for a new cvt, was the way I was treated at the dealership and by Nissan themselves.

What the dealerships won’t tell you is that the CVTs are dirty transmissions, lots of metal on metal. I clean the pan and change the fluid in our 2012 Murano every couple years, car has 220K, looks and acts like brand new.

And that’s exactly what you need to do with a CVT. The problem is the manufacturers and dealers try to sell this lifetime fluid crap. “ spill and fill” every 60,000 miles or so if you want your CVT’s to last. and even then there’s no guarantee if it’s a Nissan (junko” CVT.

Fiesta our son had was the worst car I have ever seen for constantly having transmission issues. Ford definitely did not make quality job one on that vehicle. He disclosed the issue when he sold it and still felt bad selling it cheap. These transmissions are TRASH!

The ford and nissan can both last over 250k easily if you can find a manual. The audi is garbage. I had both fiesta and nissan versa manuals both very reliable the fiesta was totalled by a 90 year old driving the wrong way of the road gladly i was parked but she used me as a way to stop her car.... After i got a nissan versa base 1.6 manual which is even more reliable than the ford. I drive doordash and groceries to old folks. And i drive 50k a year both cars gave me at least 2 years reliably no issues. The versa is still going strong about to hit 60k miles in 1 year for a total of 170k with the versa only oil changes brakes and one replacement belt the startet motor is on the way but is only a 70 dollar part. I have it just waiting for the old one togo. I gotta say the exhaust on the nissan is garbage so i had to fix rust holes on it other than that is solid. The fiesta has more electronics that can go wrong but the main issue is the tcm automatic Tranny if you get it manual is a blast to drive.

Loved my Ford Fiesta but you are right. The transmission went out on it due to design flaws. Ford could have had a winner, cheap transportation with great gas mileage. Just like they had a winner with the Maverick but keep raising the MSRP on it and are pricing people out.

I agree with you! Nissan CVT’s are among the worst. The Ford fiesta has so many problems/lawsuits because of its DCT transmission. I actually know somebody personally where the transmission failed at 5000 miles.

Good call. The automatic transmissions seem to be the weak point on the recent Ford and Nissan small cars. Nissan is at least now rebuilding the older CVTs and extended the warranties up to 75K. These transmissions are very sensitive to contaminated fluid and require frequent fluid changes by someone who knows what they’re doing to get a decent lifespan.

Has nothing to do with the price. Lemons/money pits come in all types and brands but mainly Nissan, audi, Ford, Dodge, GM, kia, hyundai....the list of reliable cars is much shorter. Older Hondas and toyotas are bullet proof. I will never drive anything but. All my Hondas cost me were oil changes and brakes keeping my money where I like it. If I want to drive a lemon, I will lease it and give that turd right back. 💯

I have an original Fiesta with the VERY first year of the six-speed. It has been a great car, but ... Ford pretty much replaced the transmission at 12,000 miles and it has always had a "quirky" transmission. And not "quirky" in a good way. I "shift" manually using the gas, which extends the life of THAT transmission - but it still has a pending recall (it would be the 4th) for the transmission. They are GREAT cars - but DON'T buy one.
