In the1950's & 60's, traffic in Auckland city New Zealand became busy enough to warrant the building of a motorway.

The new City Rail Link train route will takeover the exact ring design.

Thank God the inner ring motorway wasn't built. We don't need a motorway lining the waterfront area.

It was a stupid idea. It would have created all kinds of access problems for the wharfs. And frankly, there wouldn't have been enough space for it along Quay Street anyway.

when in auckland i definitely feel like im going around in circles and getting nowhere but what the hell ever happened to the ring idea ?
@JackSisniftee3 жыл бұрын
it thankfully never came to fruition

Interesting how a 1950's solution is still trying to be used for a problem over half a century on.

No wonder Auckland is such a big mess now....

...and that's why in 2011 Auckland traffic sucks. Still, they had a good idea about how to deal with the traffic Then. Pity we're still using the same system Now.

billamu If you've ever been on a OE or travelled to Major cities in Western Europe or Far Eastern Asia and use the public transport during rush hour, you'd gladly admire driving in your car even when SH1 and 16 is completely clogged up. There's no fighting to get onto trains or standing for over an hour with packed buses which will refuse service for being full. At least you get to do something enjoyable, just driving around and being nice to other users while sitting in a spacious comfy seat with climate you can control via HVAC system. Hate the boiling hot 25~26 degrees they set on air conditioned public transport which is too stuffy and hot for my likings... Oh and don't forget when everyone gets on and the bloody thing, whether bus or train raises to upper 30s to lower 40 degrees C. It's a absolute nightmare.

Rubbish, give me a high speed train with no traffic over car congestion. I hate driving, I'd rather read a book on a train.

7 million dollars. Let's sell 5 houses there now and pay for the whole project in full.

Different day same shit. When were there ever adequate roads.
@paulcarter74452 жыл бұрын
Great stuff. Those roads worked their magic, saving many hours of wasted travel time for huge numbers of users.

Sigh..... What a tragedy this Motorway obsession has been for Auckland. And Central Government still want to pour billions into them. You might as well set all that tax money on fire.

Freeway.... miles.... oh why were miles taken over by kilometers miles are more efficient (roadwise) and speed limits would be understandably smaller like 100 km/h would be 60 mph and etc I’m not bashing the metric system but I’m saying roadwise miles and miles per hour are better

It sounds like life's difficult for you, as you struggle with even very basic aspects of reality.
