Excellent video - I just finished servicing mine. My 06 S4 recently started the annoying rattle. Isolated the noise to coming from the sunroof. After taking off the sunroof glass and peering carefully with a flashlight, I located one clip immediately. Took a coat hanger and straightened it out and then used that to 'fish' the clip out. Did not immediately locate the second one. But after 30 minutes of fishing around on the other side and peering as best as I could, I eventually heard a rattle and found the second clip. Good tip on the JB Weld from Mark Alexander. I used that to secure the clips in better. Also took the opportunity to lube up the rails and guides. Super tip on lowering the sunroof FIRST and then put in the six Torx screws. Using one hand to tighten the Torx screws while using my other hand to position/hold the sunroof perfectly into position.

Your video helped me get my sunroof adjusted properly. I ordered the Bentley book as soon as I bought my car. The sun roof was way out of whack. The book described clips that had to be flipped to remove trim and didn't really inform me on the screws other than that the are 3 t25 on each side. So thank you for including the bit about just pulling the accordion straight back.

Thank for the video. I used the same procedure to fix the sunroof rattle today. I glued the plastic clips to the sliding brackets for extra measure

Everyone asking for the part number for the two clips... Take the time to look inside at the ends of the attachment points for the rear diffuser. Those two clips are most likely still attached to the ends, as they are VERY difficult to get off by hand, much less fall off on their own onto the headliner. Close your roof, put it in the "vent" position, remove the glass (watch video), and pull everything on the tracks forward. If you jiggle the diffuser you will see where its loose, where the ends/attachment points are, and the clips still on the ends.

Had the same issue, rattling wind deflector. I found that my clips were still attached to the ends of actual deflector when I removed it. They weren't loose inside the headliner, and by the way they looked, it's probably that way for most people. Check the ends of your deflector before thinking they are sitting on top of the headliner. I used 2 part expoxy to glue them back on. Also, be SERIOUSLY careful if you remove the deflector by prying at those side clips, they are VERY delicate! I broke the little press-in stalk side on one and had to grind down the remaining bit, the opposing side (that looks like screw threads), then drill a hole through it all and fashion a small bolt/nut to fix it.

J.D. Chapman is there anyway you could provide me with a video or pictures? The same thing happened to me... I don’t know how this guy in the video used a damn pry bar and did not break neither of the pins. I used a flat head, tried to work them out with ease but they still broke. One of the pins broke inside of the hole that is on the arm so I’m trying to figure out a way to get it out without breaking the arm, I’ll probably have to drill that out as well.

I just got a newer A4/B7 last week and had to do the same repair on it. Sorry I didn't make a video unfortunately, had your reply come a bit sooner it would've prompted me to do so. If you broke those pins you will probably need to fashion a small nut/bolt/washer combo to fix them. I did break one on my first A4/B6, and the repair came out great. Just have patience and go slow and gentlly while drilling and handling the parts. In the end if you ever have to repeat that repair it will be easier.

Damn, it’s all good. I’ll figure it out. Congrats on the new Audi though. So where those pins were, you grind down the remaining broken piece then you drill a very small hole then line the arm and rear diffuser back up and drill a very small bolt through the hole into the newly drilled hole on the diffuser?

Thanks. My B6 was totaled when a guy turned left in front of me and I t-boned him (his fault). The B7 2.0 was a GREAT upgrade! Yep, you're basically replacing the setup that relied on that little pin that snapped. Grind the stump, drill through the corresponding other side, and find a tiny bolt that fits snugly (and grease it) and use a washer to take up the side-to-side play. Once you look at everything its pretty self explanatory and straightforward. Finding a bolt that small but snug will be the hardest part. Good luck, let me know when you've succeeded!

Ahh, that’s bad work men. That’s what’s up though, I really like the B7 era. I just got everything fixed, surprisingly a fix went very well for me. The hardest part WAS finding the right size bolt, and then drilling the hole perfectly; man that was stressful. But my clips are JB Welded back in, the rear wind diffuser is back in how it should be with the newly drilled holes and strong machined bolts, shouldn’t rattle anymore and my sunroof cover doesn’t completely disappear when I open the sunroof all the way. Today Was a Good Day 🙌🏼

Great video! I just finished mine. It was very easy, but partly because I got really lucky with finding the clips. One came along with the bracket when pulled from the rear, and the other was still attached to the diffuser. Ran to the hardware store for JB Weld because I didn't trust the super glue I had on hand. Rattle free at last! Thanks for the video.

thank you, just did this today! thankfully my clips were found ... i didn't JB weld, but i pushed into place and then used a zip tie. for those of you who don't have / can't find clips, maybe a good zip tie would work. heck, you could be created if you had a small metal tube to put the pin in.

Thanks to Charles. Molt bona descripció per solucionar el problema el soroll metàlic: As other people have said, take the time to find the clips looking inside the ends of the fixing points of the rear diffuser, or loose at some point probably difficult to see. With a flashlight, patience and a rod I found both. The video describes very well the problem and its placement. Thank you very much from Catalonia. Thanks to Charles I have solved it

Just did the repair myself. There is no way to put your hands inside the sunroof frame. You have to remove the sunshade in order to create room and then use a long stick and retract the mechanism .It is not as simple as it is shown in this video.

I was looking for a second broken clip everywhere without any luck. Audi repairability keeps disappointing after every job I do on it. Oh well, looks like I'm just going to stuff everything with foam rubber and hope for the best.

Hi, I love your video. I have this exact problem Could you please do a video on how to remove the sunroof glass? In specific how to get access to the torx screws the hold the glass up? Do you have to remove the whole headliner for that or just the plastic accordion thing? Dealer says they have to reorder the whole track assembly which I know its BS

My sunroof is missing that diffuser, and water gets inside the car. I think the purpose of that diffuser is so water can get through the drains.

I have an 03 A6. The sunroof, when closing, reopens when it comes to a close. What I notice is that when I slide back the sunroof cover/shade, it slides all the way into the sunroof compartment rather than just stopping with just the finger inserts exposed. You think your vid is the issue. I haven’t removed the glass, but from what I can see, those pieces in your vid don’t seem to be latched to anything.

Take your glass off and put the roof in the full open vent position. Look at the ends/sides of the rear diffuser where it should attach to the tracks and your clips are most likely still on attached to the ends. Its more common than them falling off and lying on the headliner.

@KingZoneOne
@KingZoneOne 7 жыл бұрын
Is your inner sunroof shade stuck back inside of the roof? If you can't see the edge of it and it isn't coming forward, then the clips for your rear diffuser probably came loose, and the two side arms that push the shade back when you open the glass portion are blocking the sunroof from opening. You'll need to take your glass off and put your sunroof in the full open "vent" position and pull eveything forward by hand.

"So I had to go get a clip....there it is." Umm...can you elaborate on where you just went "and got" the clip? Aftermarket? Audi part number? Can we see the thing for more than two seconds?? LOL Wasn't until I read through the comment thread I saw you tell someone you don't think the clips can be purchased on their own....

My Sunroof just started to rattle. I found one of the clips that was loose. How did you remove the sunroof glass to access the mechanism? (Sorry New to this just got the car about 2 months ago) Also do you happen to know where can I can purchase said clip? BTW Great video. Took forever to find what that clip was for. Glad I found your video.

Close the roof and put it in the "vent" position. Gently pull out the rubber "accordian" looking covers on each side. There are 3 torx screws on each side just above the tracks. Take them out and the glass comes off.

Hello! I have both an answer and a question for you all. First, if any of you are still searching for clips replacing the broken or lost old ones, I just ordered mine on eBay Germany. These two sellers offer them: www.ebay.de/usr/you-s-online-shop and www.ebay.de/usr/autoteile-okzam Look for "Schiebedach Führung Halter Clips". Second, my question to those of you who talked about using super glue or JB Weld: What do you use it for in this case? To glue back together the broken pieces of the original clips or to glue the new plastic clips into the opening of the metal part that moves the metal deflector?
