Good to see you reviewing EV's now Joe. I have followed your channel from way back when you had your first m135i. This encouraged me to buy my first m135i followed by m140i the F80M3. I have now moved to a Tesla M3P which is fantastic to drive even after owning the above cars. Keep up the great work.

Excellent review Joe, my daughter is considering a Sportback, although I have impressed on her that the real used value is the Wagon (as the Americans say). I’ve seen 2019 cars with 30k miles for sale below £20k and that’s all because of the reported poor range! It for those who do modest mileage, this is a fantastic option and rapid charging speed makes road trips doable. At 25% of the new price, this must be best used buy out there. Liked and subbed. 👍 Geoff

Hey Joe, great review! 👍 Regarding the "boredom" of charging - the main issue is that you only drive EVs for a short time. There needs to be a paradigm change. You don't go somewhere to "fill up" the battery. This is something you do with the ICE vehicle, because you ONLY can fill up at a gas station - and while you're at it anyways, why not fill up to full? With an EV, you just use the time and integrate the charging into your life. Go shopping - let it charge. Go for sports - let it charge. Go for a walk in the park - let it charge. You don't need to babysit the car all the time it's charging. You can do your own stuff during that time, and this limits the time for charging to just plugging in, which is only a few seconds. In my job, I need to travel a lot. A huge discovery to me was that if I drive through at a very high speed and come home earlier, I still have my emails and conference calls to do. But if I arrange it properly, I can do some emails and conf calls while charging - and when I arrive home, maybe one hour later than usual, but all my "closing the day" duties have already been done. So, effectively - no time loss at all! I could imagine that you as a KZbinr always have some video material to review and cut. If you do part of it from the nice interior of your car, with the AC working (no problem with that with an EV!) - then the same, you do your stuff while the car charges, no time loss! You need to spend a month or two with an EV I believe (looking back at my own experience), then you will learn to appreciate the good sides and how to get around the bad sides with no real disadvantage. And hey - you said charging at home without special equipment is dreadfully slow... But still, you're getting like 10 miles per hour from a standard socket? 100 miles worth of range overnight? Can your ICE car fill up 15 litres overnight, without you doing anything? 😜 We just became used to how the "ICE life" works. "I'm going to the gas station and will pick up this and that on my way" - sounds like a perfectly reasonable thing. You don't think about how "the car dictates your life" 😜 Just go buy one or lease for a long-term. You will love it! Trust me, I have both an M4 and a Model 3. And I actually prefer Tesla for the long trips, M4 is just a fun car by now...
@alandavis27418 ай бұрын
Regarding running an ICE car.....who 'goes to the gas station'? It takes a couple of minutes to fuel up, gas stations are everywhere, and the pumps are always under cover out of the rain, so you just fill up during the journey, and the car does not dictate your life at all. With an EV the chargers are almost always NOT under cover, and even on a supercharger it's 30 minutes minimum out of your life and added to your journey. As more EVs hit the roads, queuing for a charger will be the norm, and charge rates will be throttled if a whole bank of chargers is in use at the same time. Yes, you can leave home with a full charge, but 200 miles later ( or less) you have all sorts of problems going on.

Great vid, Those screens are too low down, same as other modern audis.. The bottom screen should be where the upper screen is, and upper screen should be higher up in the dash. Really annoys me every time I see this setup in Audis. The camera wing mirrors look like they might be snapped off easily by vandals.. Lack of interior noise seems amazing. I love ultra quiet cars.

Interesting video - you should name and shame the charger that was out of order - give them an incentive to improve the reliability which as you say is the key to uptake - Instavolt, BP Chargemaster and Shell all doing well in my experience and of course Tesla just off the scale and a big reason why their sales are so strong. Looking forward to the Audi e-tron GT when it arrives ......

Joe yet another in depth video and an honest test of a quite expensive car. I expect like others who have not experienced an electric vehicle will appreciate the facts which you brought up mostly about the interior and practical uses or not easy to use. I agree about the door mirrors as all motorists are not equal and you need to be more aware now and you need as much of a view outside the car. Lovely car but I don`t like the fastback as the rear view is narrow. See you on the next one.

Another great video despite the rainy weather. I very much liked the forehead camera. It perfectly suits a multiple screen car such as this e-tron. However, please, do not use it to show details on the screens. It is too far/too small; the GoPro needs to be closer. Somehow, I am glad you did not enjoy the car. Great video nice attempt but £90,000 is hysterical ! Model Y for $51,000 is faster way more utility interior space ,and has more range. Model Y Performance will annihilate this in handling and light to light pulls. BUT if you don’t car and want a nice interior , grill rep and like cruising faster than most other SUV’s ... enjoy!

You aren't comparing apples with apples. That price is the loaded car not the base price before options. You can't compare the base price of one car with the top trim level loaded with extras price. Its base price with base or loaded with loaded. Plus this is not really competition with the model Y but closer to the Model X.

@richardcorns85534 жыл бұрын
The Model 3 perf is an exceptional car. I came from a F80 M3 and I enjoy the Tesla so much more in the 12 months of ownership. With a home charger you save so much time refuelling compared to having to go to fill up every week in your own time. Went down to Lake Annecy and it was a doddle with the super charges. Covered 400 mile legs in around 5 and half hours which was going some. By the time we used the loo and bought food the car was ready to go before we could finish our lunch. Friends and family cannot believe the car even the petrol heads who hate evs. This car has shown them how evs should be done and this is only the beginning.

Yes, I came off a Macan Turbo into a Model 3p and haven’t looked back (apart from dots in the rear view mirror!). Comparative running costs, inc insurance and no road fund licence in the UK, make this car a great option and no concerns over heavy duty servicing costs. Okay. Al mac you sound a bit arsey and have an obvious bias so what’s the point. This car is about 70-90k with a 0-60 of 5 seconds and a crap range. If I drive mine fast I can still get 290 odd miles. There are no German evs that are even worth mentioning.
@chrisp33304 жыл бұрын
@Jen J you say there are no German evs worth mentioning? That depends what you want. I don’t like the Tesla interiors as I like a car to look like a car inside. I chose an ETron (not sport back) over a Tesla as I preferred the ride comfort and the cabin is just a nicer place to be in my opinion. Range isn’t the be all and end all. A lot of people go on about it but, let’s face it, what percentage of people actually average more than 200 miles a day driving? With a charger at home it’s enough for the majority of people. I’m not a Tesla hater, I think they have pushed other manufacturers to up their game, however a large percentage of people with Tesla’s seem to want to put down every other EV out there. Different people have different requirements. Mine is solid build quality and being in a nice cabin when I’m driving. Yes, Tesla may have the edge with tech, currently, but I still don’t think they can compete with build and interiors like the established manufacturers. Only my opinion, obviously.

Having driven our i-Pace the length of the country recently and having had to queue waiting for a rapid charger to become free, if there is an increasing growth in electric vehicles, there MUST be an increase in the number of chargers. Fast chargers are anything but - they take 9 hours to charge the battery from flat which is totally useless for people travelling any distance: it charges at roughly 20 miles an hour. However rapid chargers work pretty well with a charge rate of about 130 miles in 45 minutes. The only chargers that should be fitted from now on are the rapid ones and someone in power needs to force the installation of many many more. Being stuck in a motorway service station for 2 or 3 hours waiting for a rapid charger to come free before getting the restricted 45 minute charge is not acceptable when that charge will only take you 2 hours down the road to do the same again. However to add a positive note, the i-Pace is fantastic for every day use, charging from home. It is pretty well built, has an exceptional ride quality, defies the laws of physics in the way it corners and leaves almost everything for dead in acceleration. There is a lot to smile about.

Joe Walker .....great comment Joe, and mirrors an EV vs hybrid review I watched on Harry’s Garage. @almac92034 жыл бұрын
That is garbage. When they test a german EV with a Tesla the difference in range is a lot less than the EPA figures suggest. Go and watch any group test and you will see what I mean. The Tesla optimised everything to beat the EPA test whereas the Germans dont. Look at a Taycan versus a Model S on paper and look at it in real life and you will find the Tesla can't get close to the range whereas the Porsche easily exceed the EPA range. Tesla are so overrated it's not funny.
@CaliSteve1694 жыл бұрын
@@almac9203 Model S performance has an EPA range of about 350 miles. The Taycan Turbo S is slightly faster than the Tesla, costs north of 150K and has a range of about 200 miles. Needless to say, the Porsche is out of reach for 95% of the population and as of right now, is a limited production vehicle. As far as the accuracy of the range figures- I can't speak for the model S, but I did get to drive a model 3 performance for a week and the range seemed to match the official numbers. I will agree that the Europeans still have the build quality upper hand, but Tesla is a new company and is improving. Next week, they will likely reveal their new gen batteries- most likely cheaper and lighter. Love them or hate them- they are the leader right now and it doesn't look like anyone is catching up.

@almac92034 жыл бұрын
@@CaliSteve169 forget the fantasy EPA nonsense and look at real world range. Car and Driver did a comparison and found the nearly 150 mile on paper range difference dropped to 11 miles in testing and Bjorn the famous KZbin Tesla fanboy confirmed the Taycan far exceeded the EPA range. He got 580 kilometers out of a Taycan 4s. Real world tests have confirmed the EPA figure for the Taycan are fantasy. Every time a publication tests the Taycan or Etron and compares it to a Tesla the real world difference in range shrinks dramatically. Either Tesla is gaming the system or the Germans are ultra conservative. Seems odd that a 150 mile advantage shrinks to 11 miles in real life. Ignore on paper range and performance figures and run the cars side by side or back to back to truly test the cars. Tesla fanboys kept saying wait until the new cheetah update and we will see but once again the on paper performance didn't translate to real world as the Taycan consistently beats the Tesla.
