Hey Anton, great video. Just a couple suggestions for your future oil changes and for others that may see this comment. In the beginning, when you take off the oil cap, it's really easy to get dirt and grime inside the oil fill neck from the cover if you remove the cover after the oil cap... it's really best to pull the cover off before the oil cap to prevent stuff from getting inside the engine. Another thing, when you put the oil filter on, you had the right idea to lubricate the new filter with engine oil, but it's actually the black rubber gasket on the outside edge that needs the oil, not the inside. The things I mentioned are really not a big deal, just future information for you. I'm buying a Q5 with the 2.0T soon and this video was really helpful for me to understand the layout of everything on the Q5, I currently have a MK6 GTI with the same engine but it's transverse-mounted instead of longitudinal. Thanks again for the great video!

Good info thanks. Regarding the oil filter wrench tool, the 76 is the MM and the 14 is number of flutes (flat spots). This part comes up on FCP EURO as 74mm and 14, and shows it fits a q5. Check your own fitment, this is just for reference. FCP EURO. Engine Oil Filter Socket - CTA 2464

Great video ... You mention that it did not have the dipstick but if you look on the side of the filter there's a little round knob like a plug that you can pull out( That plug is to decrease the oil in the engine) wich you could use a vacuum suction to suck all the oil out engine and oil pan

Great video I just had my wifes Q5 oil changes at our Audi dealer. She has a 2013 Q5 that we bought new. When I took her car in they said you are due for your 8 year service so I said whats that. They said we do your oil and filer in cab filer and change your brake fluid. I said why do you change the brake fluid and he said over time you get condensate which jells your brake fluid because of condensation, I live where we only get five inches of rain a year plus my wifes car only has 35,000 miles on it, I said no just oil and filter is all I want. After watching your video I'll be changing the oil next year

Does changing your own oil affect your warranty on a certified pre-owned vehicle
@Tdfries
@Tdfries 4 жыл бұрын
@@sylvesterholmes2505 I think there are certain consumer protection laws that allow afford you the ability to work on your own vehicle for certain maintenance/repairs without voiding the warranty... but I think you have to maintain records of each service as proof that it was completed. I personally would get everything done by a trusted mechanic if I had an existing warranty on a vehicle.

The crush washer on the Drain Plug should be replaced with EACH oil change. The drain plug needs to be Torqued to specification using a Torque wrench. He failed to mention the oil can BURN you if it is too hot and you do not have gloves on. On the 3.0T, there are rubber O-Rings which need to be replaced on the Oil Filter when you replace it and the Filter is a cartridge. The Filter should be Torqued to specification as well; Also, make it a habit to check all your other fluids while you are at it such as Coolant, Brake, Washer, etc.

4.8 for the 2.0 and 6.8 for the 3.0. Never wrench down screw in/on oil filters. Always torque EVERY nut, bolt and fastener to spec. if you are not mechanically experienced you are asking for stripped threads or oppositely, things lossening/leaking. And ALWAYS replace oil drain plug gasket every oil change. You can buy the correct oil for around $30/5qts, filter (audi/vw) for $10-20 & several plug gaskets for $5-7. The torx/tools pay for themselves on second sel service! There are many KZbin videos giving fully professional walk thrus. I give this one credit just to show this is NOT some scary nor difficult job for those physically able. $60 vs $130+ at your mechanic/mantainence shop. NEVER USE JIFFY LUBE OR FIRESTONE TYPE PLACES.

Halluk - One oil change completed and getting ready to perform the next. I'm saving money in the process. I have not experienced one problem, oil leak, or warning light. Additionally I have taken the 5 to an Audi dealer since the change for a radiator leak which was covered under warranty. I see you are an active member of the KZbin community. I would encourage you to perform and record a change of oil on your Audi. We would love for you to share.

@@AltonCrawford While a torque wrench can be important for other things... as long as you're not cranking down on the oil drain plug or just finger tightening it, the car will be fine. I personally use a torque wrench and torque to spec for the oil drain plug, but watching the video you looked just fine (not too much torque and not too little). I wouldn't worry about what that guy said. Nothing wrong with DIY to save some cash, especially doing something as easy as an oil change!

One of the easiest ways to save money on maintenance, especially on a luxury car. Dealer charges about $200. What would a mechanic do that you can't or wouldn't do? Nonsense!!!
@Tdfries
@Tdfries 4 жыл бұрын
In my experience, mechanics (even professional dealerships) have fucked up my vehicles more than anything. Professional mechanics are paid to get the job done faster than the flat rate but then charge the flat rate, that's how they make more money on the repair. Because of this, they tend to cut corners and forget things while rushing. When I do my own repairs or maintenance, I can take my time and triple check everything. I can do a much better job than any dealership mechanic because I have more time.
