Fantastic video, thank you for taking the time to show this repair and include the needed parts. Did this fix the codes or did it end up being another issue? because your ports didn't seem too clogged.

Thanks for the comment. It appears to have fixed the issue because the code never came back. And that was a few months ago. The ports were as dirty as any other 140k Q5, I just didn't capture much footage of the before and after.

My bank 1 code has been popping up for a couple months. Rather than buy the crazy$1400 VW tool, I was just gonna save up and have it done. This tool and video changed my mind

Question how did you figure how to take apart your car step by step and thank you for posting this video!!! I need to do this on my vw passat 2015 1.8t but don’t know how to step by step take it apart. I was thinking of using alldata but I’m still not sure if it will show me how to take the car apart. The dealer quoted me 4300 for this job

If you are referring to removing the bumper and putting the frontend in service mode, I have a link in the description showing how I learned that. If you are referring to the other stuff we had to remove (pulley, water pump, coolant crossover pipe, and those things, I watched videos from FCP Euro and other people to see how to do those steps. If you find a few videos on how to replace the water pump, that will show almost all of the steps to get the SAI ports exposed. Then hopefully my video shows enough as well. Sorry about the dealer quote. I can't believe how much they charge for this job when it is clearly a design flaw by Audi!

@ thanks again for the reply I ended up buying a repair manual for 35 bucks for a day downloaded all pdfs for how to tear down individual parts on the Passat and ended up changing my carboned up combination solenoid valve check engine hasn’t returned will sub!

Hi, I'm not familiar with the options in Indonesia, but if Amazon delivers there, then I would go with that. To my knowledge, the SAI system does not effect performance in any way, it is only an emissions requirement in many countries. So if you have the P0491 code, you can live with it forever in theory. Most people fix it because they are annoyed with warning lights (myself) or they have to sell the car in a country that requires emissions issues to be fixed before the sale.

@@5ivedaysproductions630 oh yes? Can affect on low idle rpm or no? Bcs my car audi a6 c7 2.8 fsi , just at 650 rpm at idle , i feel its not normal. Btw sorry for my broken english , may i got the solutions with long cranking in the morning and low rpm idle issue

My first guess would be a fuel supply issue. I would try to find a fuel pressure gauge at an auto parts store and ensure you are getting enough pressure. Could be the fuel pump but that is expensive so you'd want to confirm its a problem first.

Actual work time was 7-8 hours, but we had interruptions for other obligations so it took most of the weekend. Thanks for the comment.

regardless of "book time", plan a full 2 days and have a backup ride. German cars always come up with surprises during diy mx; especially something this involved.

couldn't you just clean it through the spark plug holes?

no. this cleans the sai passage. spark plug hole just gets you the top of the piston.

I hear you, It is pricey, but I am thankful somebody out there provided an alternative to the $1700 Audi tool. I blame Audi, not the enterprising machine shop that fill a need in the market.
