It's the weird combination of a small fuel tank and a wide fuel gauge. For example, a 2010 C-Class has a 65 litre fuel tank while the fuel gauge angle between empty and full is 90°. Thus, for each litre spent, the needle turns 1.4°. In the S1 however, the fuel tank is just 45 litres yet the fuel gauge spans 270°...the needle turns 6° per litre. More than four times as fast.

My MK6 GTI with 107,000 miles still pulls like a motherf*%er. It most likely has some carbon buildup but I don't feel any degradation in power at all. I really want to take a look though. Getting to 130 mph is far too easy. APR tune is only 'mod' with 260 hp/317 lbs/ft of torque, otherwise bone stock. I had a MINI Cooper S before the GTI. Now THOSE really build up carbon. I had it peanut shell blasted at 100K miles. And the timing chain tensioner in the BMW/MINI N13/N14 fail too. It never failed on me but the chain was stretched out of spec. I only used ACEA A3/B4 full Liqui-Moly synthetic oil every 5K miles in the MINI. N13 is a wonderful motor with tons of torque and a great top end but it has some weak spots. VW EA888 is a gem too.
