► The ignition coils on your Audi S4, S5, Q5, or Q7 are responsible for providing voltage to support the spark needed to trigger combustion. Your car might not display a check engine code when your ignition coils are malfunctioning, so it is up to you to diagnose the problem. We recommend replacing ignition coils on your Audi B8/B8.5 every 100,000-miles for peace of mind and optimal performance.
Aaron Davis, our Audi Catalog Manager, shows you how easy it is to replace the ignition coils and spark plugs on a 2013 B8.5 Audi S4 with the 3.0t V6 Supercharged Engine.
Common Symptoms of Ignition Coil Failure:
Misfiring of engine
Reduced engine performance
Trouble starting the vehicle
Reduced fuel economy
Engine backfiring
Check engine codes

A good tip I discovered for removing the coils is to get a plastic tie wrap and create a loop, then hook it around the head of the coil and pull upwards. Dead easy and saves any risk of damaging the alloy engine.

Helpful vid. I just had a misfire in cyl 4, IE tunes app showed me. I’m going to swap coil packs first and track down what’s going on. I can’t wait to get back to back 7.200 rpm shifts!

Very much appreciate your effort on this video! You made it understandable and look almost easy. I'd say: if there's a way to full remove the coolant res; then that would make it even more awesome! Maybe anti-seize on the plugs; but that's about the only thing I'd add. I'm also interested in general 'cost range' of the coil pack & plugs.
@jonmunroe4064
@jonmunroe4064 9 ай бұрын
Not sure if antiseize is the correct product for this application; I think dielectric grease should do the trick - I made the mistake of wiping the factory-applied dielectric grease from the tips of the coils I installed 5 yrs ago. When I went to change coils and plugs again, every single coil had corroded to the ceramic on the spark plug. Was a pain to get each one out without taking it in - had to use long pliers and a long pick set. If this happens to you be sure to either blow out or vacuum out the spark plug hole before removing the plug.

Well demonstrated as always! Just a thought, can these not be replaced without removing the intake or moving the coolant expansion tank? I appreciate that it makes for easier access but is it mandatory? Since they already come pre gapped, how much gap?
@stefdriver
@stefdriver 2 жыл бұрын
For the supercharged engine I recommend no more than .028 gap. The gap should be even smaller if you’re boosted and running cooler plugs. The plugs usually come with a bit larger gap like .03+ so I disagree that they are pre gapped for all applications.
