I like that you don't pre-rinse the car off before you pre-wash with snow foam. I think it helps the foam lather and also stick better/longer.
@RADGarage
@RADGarage Жыл бұрын
Interesting insight. I look at it like why buy the foam if you don't want to see the foam do what is designed to do? Plus, at some point, you just have to go easy on the amount of water you are using. That's my thoughts. Thanks for the comment Mike. Have a good one.

@@RADGarage hope that ceramic coating does a good job in keeping all the salt and dirt sticking to the paint. My wrx is coated with Adams graphene coating. In all that ice rain its still clean. What are your thoughts on graphene coating? Have you used it?
@RADGarage
@RADGarage Жыл бұрын
I have used a few Graphene coatings. I used Artdeshine, Ethos and Adam's. To me, they are pretty much the same as your conventional ceramic coatings, but they do seem to cure quicker and harder, if that makes sense. On a project last summer, I forgot to knock down a little bit on a side mirror and man did it harden up quick. I had to take my polisher to it. I wish I understood more of the science behind the graphene coatings, but for me, I think the conventional coatings are where I will stay for now.
@esadetails
@esadetails Жыл бұрын
@@RADGarage Yes Graphene hardens faster. Sometimes I have to do sun check for high spots and within 10 hrs it hardens up that I need compound to get off. But I like Carpro and Adams that’s what I offer to my customers. But really want to try ethos next.
@RADGarage
@RADGarage Жыл бұрын
Same here. Pulling the car out of the garage to see it in direct sunlight is a must with graphene coatings. I don't seem to see it as much with conventional ceramic coatings. Not sure what the difference would be from a scientific standpoint.

Hi Rick Just a few words to say how satisfying that video is 🤩! Your baby is absolutely pristine despite the harsch canadian winter and the fact that she is a daily driver car. It's absolutely flabbergasting 🤯! As you mentioned in your intro your protection is slowly getting old especially on the rear part which is collecting most of the contaminants Is it me or hydrophobicity came back after hand wash, particularly on the hood ? I had the same behavior during my last wash. Just used water slightly hotter than usual and used 25ml of Gyeon Bathe for 10 liters instead of 20ml and that did the job flawlessly, to be honest. Finished with towel dry and topped with Gyeon Ceramic detailer before temperatures fell under 0°C... The graphene detailer you used really made the paint so slick and shiny ! I presume you are now looking forward to reapplying a new coating. I can only validate your choice for Gyeon Mohs. I've been told new formula is even better than the one I had on the A5 during her first 2 years. Take care mate and see you on the next one Stay RAD 🤘 Gregg
@RADGarage
@RADGarage Жыл бұрын
The hydrophobicity you see is probably more to do with the ceramic detail sprays I use after every wash. I'm sure the Gyeon coating on the rear portions of the car is completely gone. Can't wait to polish her up in the Spring and lay down a gooey layer of something nice.

Alberta (and Saskatchewan as well) winters are extremely hard on vehicles, but it is so gratifying getting them clean; the Audi looks great! Actually, the ceramic coating still looks like it's protecting pretty well, or is it starting to get a little weaker on lower half of the doors and fenders (I've seen this behavior on my own ceramic coated vehicles when the coating is starting to show its age)? Is the Carmistry soap on the thinner side when used in the foam cannon? Thanks for providing my RAD Garage fix, and thanks for sharing!
@RADGarage
@RADGarage Жыл бұрын
Hi Clint. I feel like the ceramic coating is completely depleted on the rear and about 30% on the sides and 50% on the hood. The regular use of ceramic detail spray at the end of my washes makes it look like the ceramic is standing up, but it needs reapplication. The Carmistry works in the bucket but I wouldn’t recommend it in the cannon.

@@RADGarage Thanks for the information, Rick, that's good to know. I need to reapply the coating on my truck this spring, as I'm seeing the same sort of thing, coating is gone on the back, barely hanging on the sides, and maybe 50% on the hood.
@RADGarage
@RADGarage Жыл бұрын
Too many coatings are formulated for and tested against mild climate conditions. I have yet to see a coating freely admit just how hard it is to protect from the onslaught of salt in the colder climates. I find the only real answer is to use a quality ceramic spray after each and every maintenance wash.

Paint protection film is vastly superior to any brand of ceramic coating. There is just no substitute for a physical barrier of protection. Ceramic coating on top of PPF is even better since it protects the film from sun fade and gives it more gloss.

@RADGarage

It’s conditioned water. I just don’t see the purpose of using pressure to rinse away the soap at that stage. It takes longer, puts unnecessary wear on my machine and fogs the place up. I can easily rinse it off in seconds with regular spray.
