Ive owned both Audi and Subaru. Subaru feels cheaper, but I never had any mechanical or electrical issues. Audi felt very robust and well designed, but had numerous mechanical and electrical issues. If you're rich, get the Audi. If you're smart and don't care about good looks, get the Subaru.

I've owned five Audis, partly to 18 years, and never had any electrical, mechanical or other problem. Every car had more than 250k km. So it seems to be a problem of service and driver.

Everyone is complaining about some small details, but this is still the fairest test I've seen in a while. It's always very bias, one car goes up a hill like it's glued to the track, others slides backwards and so on. All of them were very close, it comes to preferences at this point. Don't think this will make anyone switch.

The Quattro is quite impressive in luxury and performance, but the Subaru Forester XT has to be one of the best awd vehicles on the market. The handling in unlike anything I've experienced. Honestly its crazy to even think of Subaru being compared with the likes of Audi and BMW, but this sleeper became my choice after a simple test drive in pouring down rain. No regrets!

All cars was tested in the same conditions. Some disciplines with ESP ON, other ESP OFF . But always for all cars equally. The cars participated in the test: Audi A4 2.0 TDI (103 kW) BMW 320 X-Drive, Mercedes-Benz 250 CDI 4Matic Subaru Legacy 2.0D. Every car had different tires . We are not in Slovakia in such a conditions that we could afford to buy the same tires for all the cars. sorry for my english. i am not the specialist.

I needed a new car when I moved to northern Idaho in 2004. My decision was made when I had a short conversation with our rural 50ish year old postwoman. I asked her if she delivered mail with her car "way up there." I was pointing to the mountain top roads. She said that her car was the only vehicle she trusted to get her up and back safely. It was an old Subaru. SO, I bought a 2009 Subaru Outback and I still have it! I have 100,000 miles on it and have had no major issues. I absolutely love it - still - to this day. If you purchase one - be careful. You will become an overconfident driver overnight - literally! This vehicle takes care of you!

I think you guys did a great real world problems test, that people would encounter on daily basis going to the mountain or during snow storms, so more less realistic. I don't understand why everyone is complaining about this test. You guys rock! Keep making videos I'm subscribing. Molodci Hlopci! I owned Subaru, 4 Matic mercedes, bmw. All have their own problems in snow. While subaru did really good, Mercedes also did good but was issue with Stability control taking over too much and overheating breakes to glowing hot after 20 minutes of sliding in snow and cant build up speed. Subaru obviously is awesome but not as comfortable.. seems like audi got little bit of both luxury and good awd system, now if they can make good reliable engines and less shitty plastics that fail with in first 6 years.

+MasterofPlay7 well not all the 4cyl turbos are great little engines and diesel once are performing well. The 3.2 and 2.8 in my experience were the shitties I've came across in terms of reliability and maintenance.

+MasterofPlay7 had the 2.8 a6 then 3.2 a6 while non died during my ownership lol I got to fix quiet a few things on the engine. On 2.8 throttle body started having issues, first one was carbon build up then second time IAC sensor went out. Then lifters failed so I sold it. Got newer 3.2 a6 was a beast then started having electrical issues until timing guide failed. Now that was a pain.

Tires its a VERY IMPORTANT factor in test like this!!! These tests are great, but if the tires are different, or stock it will greatly affect the performance of any car in snow conditions!

BMW's and Audi's are on par when it comes to performance in the snow. BMW has more performance, but audi has more stability and control. So if you want to go fast, choose BMW, want to be safe and in control, choose the Audi. I want to go fast, so I will choose the BMW.

Why didn't they try Subaru Impreza?? That would have been interesting, BMW AUDI and MERCEDES have battled each other while others made huge advances in technology. I own a BMW now, previously owned Audi, Rover, Alfa Romeo, Opel, Jeep, only drove a Subaru Impreza once and I love that car:))

snip84 I had my first Audi for 7 years and it had just as many problems - including a significant front-end recall issue whose case I helped contribute to (which took 6+ years to push through Audi) - as any other new car I've bought. However, the repairs were far more expensive for the Audi than any USA or Japanese brand I've also owned. Decent car when it's all working well and built like a tank, but it wasn't a very satisfying experience overall - so, I no longer invest in Audis. By comparison, I'm now ordering my 4th Subaru (i.e., others members of the family had two others), my prior one being 10.5 years old and still in overall very good shape - I just decided to downsize and get features that I want for the next 10+ years. Not as refined as an Audi, but I have found Subarus a heck of a lot more satisfying (and practical) for the money.

The ONLY people who TRULY love German cars are the mechanics who are paid to work on them. I've got 2 Subies(both with 250+k mi), live in Wisconsin(you know...REAL winters) and I can tell you that the Subaru is the FINEST AWD system not only for the money...but overall. I know a couple Audi drivers. They look REAL good and drive nice...but when something fails...there's no "do it yourself" work to be had on these. My Subaru? I can do 80% of the work myself...on the RARE occasion in needs it. German cars are LEGENDARY for their electrical issues...and if there's a more frustrating issue than that, I haven't found it.

It's not the work necessarily it's finding parts. I can source most Subie parts at the local stores. Not so many aftermarket parts for them so you're stuck paying the dealer.

Other than Subarus all wheel drive system it shouldn't even be compared to the likes of Benz, bmw, and Audi. Personally I think Quattro from Audi has the best all wheel drive. Subaru would come in 2nd.. I never have to shovel my Audi out even if we got 2 feet of snow, the quattro plows through anything. I can drive 70mph in a blizzard with no effects on the quattro whatsoever. Also have no problem making it up my hill which is pretty steep, it makes it up in ice and snow no problem. I'm flying up my hill while other cars are sliding back down lol

I think these real life tests are much better than those indoors tests on rollers. I didnt understand the language but the video was nice and realistic for my taste. The cars seemed completely stock just like most people would use them except in extreme snowy climates. Of course tires make a difference but this was a good test nevertheless

There are some details guys were obviously not aware of. For Subaru, you always need to switch off traction control when driving on snow or mud. And you keep the wheel as straight as possible to deliver the torque to rear wheels as no AWD system will do it otherwise.

Looks like they are pretty much the same.. Driving on streets I don`t care so much about second here or there. They all passed Ice test so difference lays in tires and some regulations. I would prefer any of those germans in sedan version with Nokian Hakkapeliitta 7 tires. In case of Subaru I would buy Impreza STI to have some fun.. Cheers people!!! Life is too short to stick to very narrow thoughts;)

It is a nice test for awd systems of passenger cars. But. Somebody explained earlier that Audi uses two different quattro systems. Audi's mounted with transverse engine like the 2.0 has a four wheel drive system more similar to 4Motion, but a parallel mounted engine like the 3.0 has real quattro four wheel drive.
