Great video on doing this water pump! I'm a technician myself, worked for a Volvo/Volkswagen dealership for a long time, mainly on the Volvo side. I left for Ford, in 2013, and now have my own indy shop, and I work on just about anything you can think of. Thats so much easier nowadays, with the Internet, and especially KZbin. I rely on it to get a head start and find instructions on a lot of things on different vehicles. Its not the only resource I use and rely on, but quality instructional videos such as this one, help a lot. Thanks for posting this one!

This video was a HUGE help. My original water pump failed a couple of years back on my ‘13 A4 and I paid a mechanic $350 and bought my own replacement aluminum pump from Amazon. The thermostat failed after less than 2 years, and I needed to replace it again. All of my parts came from FCPeuro and the quality was great. All of the instructions worked perfectly, except I was able to slip my belt back on without cranking the engine. Outstanding instructions!

This is an excellent video and very easy to follow. I replaced the coolant pump in my 2012 Audi Q5 2.0 over the past weekend and it only took a couple of hours with a couple of hiccups. There are a couple of steps I felt could be added to the video to make it even better. First of all, most of these kits provide a new belt for the pump which is not easy to install. I thought I could just slide the old one out and slide the new one in, but easier said than done. The gear that spins with the crank has a flange on it (probably to keep the belt from sliding off) and it prevents the belt from sliding out between the block and the flange. I could not get the belt pulley bolt off as it requires a special tool, so I just cut the old belt off and tried to slide the new one underneath. This was frustrating but after awhile with some lithium grease I finally got it to go; there must be an easier way though. The second thing is that there is a one time use gasket that goes between the throttle bottle and the intake manifold housing that needs to be replaced. I wish the young fella would have mentioned this. The Audi dealer nailed me $37.00 for a $4.50 gasket I could have bought online if I would have known, but I needed to get the car back on the road so I was stuck. Also, my intake manifold is made of plastic and the torque specs for plastic were not supplied (I don't usually torque plastic so I just hand tightened). All in all, this was an excellent video, thanks Aaron Davis!

My throttle body had a green rubber gasket, I would not consider it a one-time use gasket, seemed in fine condition. Just cleaned up the surfaces and re-used

There are many videos on the web showing clear steps on how to manipulate the belt onto the WP pulley before placing it in its final position.

Very helpful video, totally saved me a ton of extra time and work. One thing though, there’s no need to turn the crank to put the belt back on. Just slide the belt on with the water pump about 1/4 inch to the right of the dowel pins, then use some arm and hand muscles to put the pump on the dowels and while holding the pump on with one hand put the bolt farthest away from the belt in……. You know the rest!!!

Great video, way above the rest. Very detailed , thorough and good camera work. Even the torque specs are outlined. I watched this several times to learn all the steps and it went pretty smooth except for two huge things I wish I knew going in: #1 The torque specs are for 9nm (water pump), 7 nm for throttle body - but I found out during installation that my torque wrench only goes down to about 27nm and had to stop mid job and order a new tool. Good thing is they sell mini 1/4 drive torque wrenches for bicycle mechanics that range from 2nm to 20nm and it worked great. #2 You should make sure you are able to rotate the crank for the belt install (at 13:37) before everything. I had a long ratchet but wasn't quite long enough and had to use a breaker bar, which required many incremental turns before having to detach the socket and find the nut again, very frustrating. Also on my car (Audi A5) there is a small electrical box attached to the radiator housing which is right in front of the crank bolt which blocked access for attaching a socket. After close examination it was held on with a small T30 screw and it dangled out of the way after detaching.
@TheEtoileNoire2 жыл бұрын
That happened to me! I had no long rachear just a beaker bar and finding the nut to rotate the crank was very difficult and was a very tight space in front of the radiador had to do it several times to seat the belt onto the pump gahhhhh
@robertlodge6012 Жыл бұрын
For the crank I used an old, cheap ratcheting 1/2” torque wrench and a 15/16th socket (I didn’t have a 24mm), and it worked great.

Dealer wanted over $1800 to do this job, so I ordered the parts,(pump kit + pipe+union), from you, and followed this video for a very successful install. I took my time and turned it into an all-day job. I’m not a pro, but could do this again in maybe 3 hours. I had to get o-ring WHT006407 20x3mm) from the VW dealer, but everything else went perfectly for my 2014 Q5 w/101k miles.
@jssarriaga2 жыл бұрын
This is a great DIY video. But Iwould do it differently starting by unplugging the lower radiator hose instead of opening the drain bib. It's faster and allows more of the coolant to evacuate. Also, on 7:51, the heater hose, there is no need to tap the hose connector with a large screwdriver. Its better to remove the screws holding the plastic pipe then holding it at a comfortable angle just wiggle it out of the heater hose.

This video was very helpful video. I've never replaced a water pump on any car and this video from FCP (along with their all aluminum upgraded water pump) made the problem very approachable. I highly recommend getting the hose clamp pliers if you don't have them; otherwise, I found the hose clamp on the plastic coolant pipe a complete pain (and ultimately went and bought hose clamp pliers at Autozone but you can probably get them cheaper if you plan ahead). The only other hiccup was my 2013 A4 had an M10 triple square (spline) screw on the bottom of the metal bracket that needs removed ... yet anther frustrating piece of over-engineering from Volkswagen. (I mean seriously Volkswagen engineers - really? Let's over-engineer a screw but put a plastic water pump on our German luxury performance brand.). Thank you to FCP - even with the tool purchases still saved over $1000 from the dealership quote of $1300-$1400.

naptowntuner does this job in 20 minutes also, this seems more detailed and a lot more parts removed but skips about more... where this i think would take an hour to do, where Naptowntuner does it in a 20 minute continuous video, very fast entire job, but take this guy serious, he has Audi / VW tattoo on his wrist and is doing it more by the book that Audi wants you to do it by. Thank you for such detail on this job, i have confidence of doing it now. This guy goes over detail of build quality of pump and gaskets a bit more also to explain to you.
