Thanks for the video. I just finished this job up last night. I had the added complication of having to replace the front crossover coolant pipe as I learned that it was cracked where it inserts into the thermostat. Unfortunately, I did not notice this the first time and discovered the crack upon a leak test, so I had to take off the supercharger, belts, pulley, etc, a second time! So watch out for this - check that crossover coolant pipe carefully. Removing and replacing the coolant pipe added quite a bit more pain to the job. For anyone wondering, while I saw one video of someone replacing the T-stat without putting the front-end into service position, I would not have been able to do it without the extra room. I highly advise service position for access to the 4 T30's holding the crossover coolant pipe to the heads, for access to the water pump and just easier manipulation of the belts, etc. I used the coolant filler vacuum tool to leak test and refill the coolant and highly recommend that. I did the leak test before connecting all the vacuum and electrical back on to the supercharger, but be careful as they note when putting the supercharger back on because I trapped my purge line underneath. I was afraid I was going to have to pull the supercharger up yet again after I had filled the system with coolant, but luckily just loosening it a bit, I was able to wriggle the purge line free. And definitely label all those connections at the back of the supercharger. I had mine apart for 4 days waiting for the coolant pipe to arrive and if I didn't label them remembering it all would have been challenging. If you are not experienced at DIY, work with a friend - you will be surprised how much more motivation a second person provides to work through a sticky problem - not too mention extra hands for some of the operations.

Want to thank you for the video. Just finishing it up... everything is in and I just need to fill coolant and start. For anyone doing this on a vehicle with a bunch of miles, i'll share that my 2013 Q5 has 93k miles on it and the inside of the coolant pipe was totally decaying. I could dig out what used to be plastic using my fingernail. The part is available at FCP, but when I bought it, the listed part at FCP was not the right one. I called FCP to notify them, but just in case.... you want part 06E121045BB. It fits perfectly. And it comes with the 3 gaskets needed (2 for attaching to block and one at the thermostat) so you don't have to buy them like I did. The supercharger is heavy! Hope you have a good back. My Q5 has a different front bumper system than the video. No bolt behind the wheel well longer holding on the bumper... just pull it out. So many bolts under the hood though... I used lots of tape to mark locations, with sharpie to write a number and a matching number tagged on each bolt. Not a bad job. I used a huge Phillips screwdriver to remove the supercharger coolant bleed screws, and that worked well. They look like a flathead will work, but it didn't. Thanks again... awesome video. FCP rocks!

Thanks for this DIY. I followed it and was able to change out my thermostat. Hardest parts were taking off any of the coolant hose as they were all stuck on pretty tight, and removing and reattaching all the various cables and tubes from the supercharger. Otherwise it just took a fair amount of time, but save me a lot of $$$$
@polocoste2 жыл бұрын
Just want to give an update on my thermostat change. I noticed some leaking after, but for the life of me could not figure out where it was coming from. After taking off the supercharger again I determined it was coming from where the thermostat meets the coolant pipe. Swapped the o-ring twice because I figured that was the problem, but the leak persisted. Finally I changed the entire coolant pipe and the issue was resolved. I looked at the old coolant pipe and could see no cracks, so the only thing I can think is that it either slightly warped over time, or shrank in diameter. Not really sure, but just wanted to mention this in case anyone else has a similar issue.

Just completed this job on by 2011 B8 S4 and wanted to leave some tips for anyone completing this. I would replace both the supercharger belt, and the accessory belt. The supercharger is way heavier than I thought, and some people may need a second set of hands to remove carefully. I drew dots on mating connectors to make plugging everything back together as easy as possible. By my count, I had 8 rubber lines behind the supercharger, 5 connectors with 3 on the top and 2 slid behind. There is a vacuum line on the intake, as well as a connector for the throttle body and two mafs on either side. If the supercharger has resistance when pulling up, then recheck everything. When putting belts back on, do yourself a favor and buy the longest wrench you can find, I used a short one and it was not fun. Make sure the accessory belt is lined up properly on the bottom pulley, because if not, the supercharger pulley will not fit properly. Do yourself a favor and buy new bleeder screws ahead of time because the plastic ones will break. Finally, he does not go over this in the vide, but without a vacuum tool, to bleed the coolant I let the car warm up, a friend loosened the screws as i held the rpms at 2000. once it bled, i undid the heater core hose, and turned the heat on hi with the fan speed max. Once that was bled i did the supercharger once more and let the car bleed itself the rest of the way by driving around. Hope this helps, not an easy fix, take your time and dont tighten anything too tight.

FCP Euro do you have any idea if the plastic ones are a direct fit for b8’s? My b8 style felt fender liners rip pretty darn often

My cousin's entire "valley' was flooded with coolant. The coolant pipe from the thermostat housing to the rear of the block was cracked on my his S5 cabriolet. Changed hoses, water pump, coolant pipe under SC, pcv valve, thermostat, crossover pipe, an idler and tensioner pulley, and belts. What a ridiculous design.

What do I do if I dont have the vacuum hose for the water pump?

Will this kit work for the SQ5s as well? Can’t see why not but I feel the need to ask anyway lol

Its basically exactly the same. Just check vehicle fitment on the site incase there is a year split of any kind with potentially varying water pumps. But it should be 1:1

Is this doable without getting under the car/service position?
@fcpeuro4 жыл бұрын
It's possible, Justin! But you'll need some special short sockets and some very very small hands.

You can tell, The mechanic takes pride in his workmanship. The owner of this B8.5 not so much, Judging by the engine bay quality/cleanliness(Or lack thereof).

i own one and i can say that it is a bitch to keep the engine bay clean. also not everybody is as savvy as you think they may be. some people buy the car to drive it and thats all they know to do. they bring it to the shop for everything.

@@DillyGee Funny enough this is the car of the editor of this video ^.^ We had a good laugh about this comment this morning. It's now a quarterly goal of his to make sure he takes better care of his car, or no more DIYS!

@@EthanRoyMedia Hey Ethan, Well then wrench on, Sir.... That is, with the Camera Equipment. PS: Yes, I honestly DID enjoy this video, although it seems like I was focused one one thing, and that was the cleanliness.. Please forgive my OCD. Thank you for personally reaching out.. I wholeheartedly RESPECT that...
