I applaud the attempt of Patrick to have his "colleagues" understand Nightwish, but it's pretty obvious that they are just not fully into it. Nightwish songs are wallpaper music here while talking continues from time to time. If they hadn't been talking, then Patrick wouldn't have to explain a lot of stuff. By the way, also nothing even related to audio-engineering was discussed in all Nightwish reactions... Apparently the color of Tarja's outfit & her career is most important here, then comparing with Floor as well as a Rudolph the red nose reindeer story. I'm out.

The setting of the show is that they invite several known singers from different genres and on each episode one takes the central seat and each of the others sings for him either one of the songs the one in chair sang during their career, or one that holds significance for them from childhood or favourite singer . Marco was treated for depression from fallout of his divorce, touring pressure (NW used to tour for two years straight), and later due to pressure from the label. He specified when he left that he was tired of the politics from the label. At one point all the way back to Tarja's time, the label was trying to force the music in a certain direction and the band responded with the song "Slaying the Dreamer". NW now has split the tour into two halves, provides all the band members opportunities to pursue private ventures (including Tuomas). Some of those involve other members of NW. Nobody in the band cares about the time between albums. Nor do true fans. A lot of the time in between also involves production (over a year), planning touring production and coordinating what will be needed along the tour. As a rule, the band tours with four tour buses and four semis full of equipment. They have roughly 50 road crew. The band's album production includes recording with a full orchestra (since you can't take them along on a day-to-day almost 200 gig tour leg with all their equipment and crew - it's not possible and not cost effective). Symphonic orchestral parts are prerecorded for the album and the live performance separately as are the choral parts. The synthesizers are for key elements for emphasis. There are certain sounds a synthesizer can make that an orchestra can't (Tuomas has been told that). Floor has released her solo album already. Floor and Tarja have been friends since before Tarja was fired.

I find it funny that you hear 1 song that isn't even their own music and determine that you like Floor better. "Ghost love Score" was written for Tarja's rich dark classical vocals, SHE is the reason that NW became the band that helped define a genre. As for the editing, take into account that this was 2005. Maybe relax and enjoy the videos and respect the talent.

You may understand a lot about audio engineering, However, most of you show a Huge lack of understanding about vocal singing styles and the different vocal demands and techniques behind it, and that quite shows in this video, which is disapointing. Plus this was Tarja back in 2005, her voice didn't even reached its peak. Nowadays she uses different vocal techniques depending on the style of music, and sometimes she also combines them in the same song. I actually believe Tarja is still at her best on her classical concerts. On the heavy rock ones, she is more concerned with expressions (and she doesn't use the same vocal technique all the times), and also she runs and jumps and has fun, so she is not concerned about a perfect classical performance on those. Comparing Tarja to Floor in such a superficial way, brings nothing good, Both are amazing, Both have their imperfections and limits (which you don't bother or don't know how to analize), Both are human and excellent singers in their own right! I'm glad Tarja has got her successful solo career, she really had space to develop as a composer, producer, performer, vocalist... she could never do that while in the band, and some of her solo albuns are particularly interesting and creative. Nightwish is still a great band after Tarja, and with both Anette and Floor, I actually believe that their sales peak was with Anette, which brought a more contemporary sound to their works, and, out of curiosity, she was also the first one trying to give a different ending to "ghost love score", however the band never gave her a chance of recording a professional video recording of a complete show like they did with the other singers. Still, inspite of this criticism, its nothing personal, I was a bit disapointed but I wish you the Best!

The Phantom of the Opera novel was published in 1910, and a silent movie was made in 1925 starring Lon Chaney. The movie was a fun watch because of all the over-acting that was done back in the day. They release an album every four or five years, but it only takes Tuomas several months to write one. He goes off by himself and starts with an idea. Then he writes the lyrics and as he does that, he composes the music in his head. His nickname is the Metal Mozart because Mozart also composed the music in his head. Marko left because of chronic depression brought on by what record companies do to artists. He also has a letter online. 😄🤘

you have the story wrong. Yes she was given a letter. With instructions not to open it until tomorrow. The band or management leaked the letter online before she ever read it. So the 1st she knew of it was when the presa was asking her for comment. The tour was Once upon a tour. End of an Era was the DVD title from 2006 when they released it. Sorry for those trying to defend Tuomas but his behaviour was abominable. However Tarja being ever so gracious put that aside to contact him on occasion of his mother's passing. They are on civil but chilly relations. Except Marko publicly and privately apologized to Tarja. They have been touring together since 2023. Tarja is 20 albums deep into her career.

It kind of reminds me of a similar criticism I once heard of Jukka's drumming style wherein he throws in a lot of showmanship with his body language and stick twirls and such. It was from a professional drummer whose criticism was based on his assertion that such theatrics are not technically difficult to do and that "anybody" can do them and that they are therefore trite and unappealing. My answer to him was, dude, don't you realize.... no one cares what a technical drummer thinks of evaluation of a rival drummer? We're the fans, not the music school teachers. We don't care whether it's easy to do or over-used. We only care what looks cool and makes us happy and energized while watching him. Technicality be damned. We don't care. A similar rejection of the validity of the criticism applies here. It's personal opinion based on your personal perspective of things from a technical standpoint. The rest of us don't care about that. We care if the video is blurry or shaky or low res or if it is from a fan cell phone camera with some dude's head in front of him that keeps popping in front of the screen or some drunken goofball near him screaming nonsense. But technical nit-picking falls in the category of, "Pffffff. Who gives a flyin' f***?" Hope that clarifies what I meant.

However with the amount of comments that we've gotten with people disappointed that we talked over the music so much (and I can understand why, being as it was the first time most of the people on the panel were hearing the song) we will try to do that in the future and see how it works with our setup.

ok, I thought I should give this a chance regardless of you Patrick suggesting in your previous videos that we should skip it. But just from reading the first few comments, I will skip this. I will give you guys the benefit of the doubt and listen to the more recent reactions, since I believe in second changes and that we all need to learn and grow and can get better at what we do. And because you seem like a real NW (and Annette) fan. Let's see if I'm right or wrong.

Tarja has done well, but Nightwish went to huge and exploding the fan base. So you saying Tarja is Huge is not based on facts of sold records or concerts/tours, it's based on personal opinion - just saying.. Also the 4 years between "Endless Forms most Beautiful" was because they toured 2 years with the Album and then they had an extra 2 years of Decades Tour of their 20 year long career when they could not record/mix/publish etc.- also The next album "Human Nature" (it was released few weeks before Covid-19 started) and September 20th 2024 to be released next album "Yesterwynde" it took first 4 years because of 2 years of Covid-19 isolations when they could not tour at all and then 2021-2023 they toured Human Nature. So saying it takes Tuomas/Nightwish 4 years to make/compose a new record is not true, Tuomas has himself said that it takes for him maximum 1 year to compose and make lyrics for the songs, then the next year the other band members hear the demos and they practice the songs, record the song, mix everything (like now the orchestral tracks were over 600 and then all the band tracks etc.) and then the mastering and pressing albums, making digital & CD/DVD will take their time - remember this is not your USA Pop Industry, where others than Artist making songs ready and Artist coming to studio doing quick recordings and then the "machine" accelerates to get everything done as quick as possible, because time is money and profits are better an etc. etc. and frankly you hear that in the recorded Pop music, too easy, too pre-modelled, too regulate how to form the song, too much radio friendly time restrictions etc. et.. So accurate and truth is that Tuomas composes 1 year and everything else takes the second year (an this latter you cannot make much shorter). Marko Hietala (the singing bassist) did not leave because records would have taken 4 years to make, he left because he got fed up with the Music Industry and tens to hundreds other people trying to take as much money out of what the Artist create and based on the sole business viewpoint start to dictate what the Artists/Band needs to do - you can search for the KZbin video where he is telling all of this. You have lot of info on NW but you have also much your own misunderstandings or interpretations you present as facts to others, so maybe check the data before speaking it out, not super harmful, but also affects to the vibe of what is talked about. Having said that, I do enjoy these reactions and you (the one with the previous knowledge of NW) have an interesting personal style, which you should keep definitely and which I do like, just check the facts beforehand :) Btw "Greatest Show on Earth" is a about the whole Evolution of mankind and inspired (as is the whole Endless Forms most Beautiful Albums Theme) by the evolutionary theories of Charles Darwin and Richard Dawkins book about the same theme.

Nice reaction, but just some clarifications: "classical" composers did write some of their music to be sung (even Beethoven, just think of the ninth symphony, one of the most famous classical pieces). Tarja is a classicaly trained singer, who became famous for her work with Nightwish. She would only sing operatic at first, but at some point she started to incorporate other techniques. Floor, on the other hand, is not classicaly trained, she has some training in operatic singing, but she isn't as skilled at it as Tarja is, as she would be the first to say. Tarja did continue her classical education and performances throughout the years, along with a solo career as a rock/metal singer/songwriter. Having said all this, everyone has a favourite singer, and mine is Floor, because of her versatility and overall stage presence and personality. As much as I love Tarja, even her solo work, which I find great, I always return to the live versions with Floor. As for Anette, the albums are great, but I only like her vocals on some songs, and certainly not live... So, as you can see, you will never get a consensus from Nightwish fans, there's just too many different opinions, as I'm sure you've already noticed! 😅

Personally I think the video you mentioned earlier with Tarja and Nightwish live of "Sleeping Sun" is the best "Tarja" video, and slightly better than Floor's "Sleeping Sun" in that instance. But the best rendition of "Phantom" is the Beste Zangers with Floor, partly because of sound and production values, as you note. 🤗

They did tell Tarja that they had a problem with her - she didn't want to hear it. She stopped traveling between shows with the band and refused to do some of the rehearsals. She canceled a show because she wanted to go to dinner with her friends. There's a video called "Bye, Bye, Beautiful" - the visuals are crap. Close your eyes and listen to the words (or just look them up). Read the letter from the band to her which the band posted to the public. She was told.

The other side of the story is that that particular show was planned and sold out without letting Tarja know of the date until it was "too late". Miscommunication was the main problem. It was definitely not that Tarja didn't care about the fans. She performed while being ill multiple times, and I believe she said in the press conference that that concert actually happened, that she cancelled the dinner and did the concert instead. Marko also talked about certain issues in the organisation, not the band members but management. Even Emppu said in the early 2000s that their management often cared more about making sure there was booze than taking care of the band's needs... and if Emppu says that, I think we can believe it. And Tarja didn't care for booze, she cared for being healthy enough to be able to perform, so proper sleep and shorter tours and time to recover in between. that's entirely reasonable.

That is NOT correct. Tarja never canceled the Oslo 2005 show because she wanted to go to dinner with friends. Tarja actually cancelled her private life plans for those days she had off, to still do that concert which was NOT Planned initially! Tarja was only advised that she had to sing an extra Nightwish show in Oslo after the show was already sold out! How on earth is that professional? Of course she had all the right to complain, Still she chose to sing due to respect for the fans that already had bought the tickets! This is how it was!

Why hate? I don't see the point, yes they are amateurs because it's a hobby and they all enjoy listening to music, talking about it and having a good time. No one forced you to watch this video. So try being a nice human being for once or go away.
