I was absolutely amazed by the audio track on this. You always hear about how streaming audio isn’t as good as when you play it from a disc. But this was literally like being in the cinema. So it proves that streaming Audio can be great if they do it right. And that’s great news for all of us.

Well, people dosent talk about streamed audio that is badly mixed, there are good mixes on streaming services, its about lossless vs lossy tracks and the way smaller bitrate that you find on this streamed tracks.

@@eysan90 well if this movie gets to disc and the audio will have a TrueHD track you'll hear the difference. Numbers dont lie, there is a significant difference between lossy and lossless regarding bitrate and you can make a difference. In my shitty bedroom where i have my 5.1.2 budget setup with no sound treatments the difference is not so audible but in a well designed dedicated home theater room you will hear it.

@@AexoeroV Yeah, with good mixing there's almost no noticable difference, if any. I saw a few videos on the topic about lossy VS lossless on regular audio and that basically outside of a few songs, humans are simply incapable of telling the difference between good lossy quality and lossless quality, no matter how good the audio equipment. I imagine it's similar for Atmos movies, with the main problem being not that they use lossy audio but that they're just lazy conversions for the streaming platforms that don't really attempt to keep the Atmos on a similar level. Netflix also seems to throw the Atmos label on just about all of their original content, but the majority of it isn't really much more than a label. I was watching a horror movie the other day and it barely even used surround sound, let alone Atmos properly, despite it having the label.

Imagine a Netflix high bandwidth for $25 a month. I know crazy. But look at how they moved the industry forward with there RED V-Raptor 8K VV Netflix approved cameras and the Atmos mixing they have put forth with season 4 of Stranger Things. Wish they had a dedicated 50 MBps plan where they could max out the audio and video bitstream like Sony Bravia Core and Kaleidoscape gear.

Netflix 4K is gonna move to $25 sooner or later. Would be nice if the upped the quality, but I don't see that happening. They're like Twitch. People will watch regardless, so they won't bother to upgrade the quality. Them having 4K, Dolby Vision and Atmos is enough than actually improving the quality of those individual components. I think for the best quality, we'll be stuck to Blu-ray for a while. At least, until a streaming platform comes out that actually tries to up the ante.

Enjoyed this movie for what it was, a good depiction of war albeit without the traditional Mcguffin that typically goes along with these types of movies. The sound was amazing. I wonder how many movies they can make about "no man's land" in WWI. Also, please check out Entergalactic for some serious LFE and one of the coolest Atmos scenes I have seen recently at around the 24-25 minute mark.

At present this movie Quiet on Western stream on netflix india ,display atmos logo but after playing convert to dd+&dd surround . Ya sound is great 👍. Black Summer episodes have extra ordinary dolby atmos effects.

Same, all other Atmos titles play and show Atmos on my AVR, just not this film which shows DD+ DDSur on my receiver’s display. Tried my Xbox connected to my TV and eARC to receiver and only DDSur on the AVR’s display and all other Atmos titles still play OK on the Xbox, so not just my Sony’s Netflix app. Edit, didn’t read down enough, have to change to German original. Shucks.

Thought it was a good movie by itself, but the sound was top notch. The drums kicking in randomly was also a nice effect. While the surrounds and height effects were great, did you think they rolled off the low frequencies a little early? Seemed like the sub-bass could have had more rumble. I watched it with Auro3D on. Sounded great. I plan on switching it to Atmos and rewatching it to see which I prefer.

Yeah, at times it seemed the LFE wasn’t very articulate, just the same rumble with certain explosions and not various kinds of rumbles. But that’s just being nit picky 😄

I actually tried watch on my 5.1.2 Setup Yamaha Rx-A2. I can see the Atmos on the movie description. But won't display on receiver. Only DD+/Dsur. I can hear tell the surrounds are working. But it just bothers me it's not displaying.

Watched this and enjoyed it a lot but sad bc I don't have room for my nice 5.2.2 setup at my current place, so it's all sitting in storage and I'm here watching it on my 48" Sony a90k oled using the built in sound - not bad as far as that goes but definitely lacking bass and definitely lacking surround like I had a year ago when I finished my build and was watching on a 77" a80cj. 😭 I'm going to have to figure out how to fit at least some of the system in for the bass if nothing else. And then watch this again.

@@anone3842 I came from the Denon 6500 to the the arcam avr20 (with matching power amps) which BTW also has Dirac. The first thing I noticed when watching movies between these two AVRs... the dynamic range! Weather the actors are talking quietly or if the sound stage breaks out with loud noise effects, no more having to reach for the remote control 🥳 if possible go with an arcam AVR even when standing alone the arcam avr's sound quality is so superior than a Denon, especially when listening to the arcam's 2-channel stereo. (Buy once cry once)

I’m in the process of putting a 7.1.4 system together so looking for some good movies to test it out. Any other ones you recommend ? I already have a Denon 6700H, paired with 4 RSL C34mkii and a LG G2 77” tv which gets delivered in a couple of days. My room is about 1500 sqr ft so I’m planning on getting the SVS Prime (2 bookshelf and 1 centre) for the front and the Prime Satellites for the surround and rear surround. Can’t wait to have it up and running 🎉.

Reason I ask is because I watched the movie yesterday on Sony projector which is only 1080P so I don't bother paying extra for the 4K Netflix subscription... and I don't think the 1080P version has an Atmos track, don't remember my Denon saying Atmos anyway.

This is correct. When we got our 4K OLED and an Atoms setup we upgraded our Netflix to suit. Before this Atmos never engaged.

Well, I finally got around to watching this. In terms of sound, the movie is pretty amazing for the war scenes. And they are a very nice watch as well. Other than that though... I didn't think the movie was very interesting. I didn't really care for the characters. Just a bunch of suckers going into war all motivated, then quickly finding out it's not all fun & games. They didn't have a whole lot of personality to speak of and the few more major characters weren't really interesting to me either. There's a lot of realism to the movie, but... the pacing is far too fast. It's so in-your-face with people dying, random explosions out of nowhere, stray bullets out of literally nowhere since you never see the shooter, etc... that it feels rather unrealistic to me. It's not that fast in a real war, bodies are no doubt a bit more sparse and not littered everywhere within a few meters from each other (could be if they were killed together, but not the way the movie represents it), etc. And it's kinda light on the language. Like they tried to not offend anyone. But that also hurts the movie since there was hardly any rage, no one seemed really angry at the enemy. They were all just a bunch of sad sacks that didn't want to fight. And while a lot of people in wars don't want to fight, the complete lack of people who openly hate the enemy and go all out with rage... is also rather unrealistic. Heck, the only guy who showed appropriate rage was young kid and that wasn't even on the battlefield. Some of the story was also rather disjointed. A lot of stuff didn't make sense. And the deaths of a few characters felt rather forced. Overal, the movie is a visual spectacle in the war scenes and a few other scenes. But other than that, I didn't really think there was much to it. Especially when you try to make sense of things.

Is Atmos only avaible on Netflix if you have your reciever setup with Atmos? I have Netflix Premium Ultra HD, but only a 5.1 setup (planning on a 5.1.2). My reciever is a Marantz, and I was curious to see if I could choose Atmos - but I can’t seem to activate it anywhere. I tried with German sound, but still no Atmos (only DTS Neural).

Yes, you would need a receiver that supports Atmos. That and a 4K TV, since streaming services these days only link Atmos sound with 4K picture quality. 👍

Just so people know. You need the 4k premium plan. And only the German version gives you dolby atmos. Its the same way on the 4k disc.

I haven't watched the movie until now. I've learned from some reviews, that this amazing sound design is only at its peak on the German language version with the English subtitles. Can somebody confirm that information? I'm a German and I will watch it in German anyway...but I think, this information can be useful for English-speakers. I would recommend the German language version anyway because of the realism. I've watched a some clips with the English dubbing here on KZbin. The Germans speaking English isn't doing the trick for me and the lips movements were not matching the dubbing. But I wasn't able to judge, if the general, high level audio design was of equal good quality in both language versions. Like I've said: Some users reviews said, that this audio design was done in a lower quality in the English dubbed version. Would be interesting to know, if somebody can confirm that information.

Yes I watched the English version... don't want to miss what's going on in the actual scene, by spending 90% of time trying to look down and read subtitles. Would be disappointing if they didn't use the same overall Atmos mix and just change the single audio voice layer in that.

As far as I know it’s just Atmos? At least here in the U.S. it was. Might be different in Europe, where Auro is more popular. 🤷‍♂️ And I doubt they will, but it would be cool if Netflix released this on 4K Blu-ray. Would be nice to get uncompressed audio with a war movie like this.

I have try to watch this movie twice. But don't know why is stuck on DDplus. The title on the screen saying Dolby Atmos/ Vision. And when I switch to another Atmos movie. The movie playing in Atmos 🤷🏾‍♂️

Technically the compressed version of Atmos comes to you via DD+ audio signals when streaming. Uncompressed Atmos travels via Dolby True HD signals (like on a 4K Blu-ray disc).

After switching the audio language to German, I was able to listen to this movie in Dolby Atmos! Definitely 10/10 for Audio. Now as for Top Gun: Maverick 4K disc 5/10 for Audio.

This is why I never read the book of watched the movie. I read a little about ww1 and it's heart wrenching. So why make an entire story about just that. Looking back it's very indulgent, but I understand it was a critical work against war so much so that it was banned from the third Reich. After hearing very very good things about the 4k disk I've ordered it. But now I'm not looking forward watching it. Thanks for the review.

Not really. Putin has no choice but to fight, the west put them into a position where they had no choice but to do so. This was the situation in short: > West promised not to expand NATO further to the east to Russia a few decades ago. > West continued to expand NATO, despite their promise. > Russia kept warning. > West did a coup in Ukraine in 2014. They deny it, but fact of the matter is that the US has a history of staging coups worldwide and this one was also proven. Heck, the US is invading Haiti right now and none of the mainstream media seems to be covering it at all. > And since that coup, they've also attacked areas in Ukraine that have quite a few Russians in it. If Russia didn't do anything, they would've expanded NATO until right next to the Russian border with the claim that they will only use it against the middle-east (which they have been saying). Of course, the US can't be trusted at all. All they'd need to do was stage anything and they'd have an excuse to attack Russia right across the border. And knowing the US, they would have done that. So no, Putin isn't at fault for starting this war. If he didn't, then it would quite literally mean the end of Russia. Not saying that Russia is a good guy, they also have some other things they want to achieve as well. Just saying that I perfectly understand that they don't have a choice in the matter. This war was baited out by the US through NATO to weaken Russia's influence for the sake of more power, control and profit. The US doesn't care about Ukraine and neither does the EU. And the EU is stupid since they think they can get the precious resources in the areas of Ukraine that Russia wants, just for their unrealistic green agenda. They don't realize at all that they're just being used as pawns by the US. With Europe and the EU being less dependant on Russia, it means they will need to be more dependant on the US. The worse Europe gets out of this war, the more beneficial for the US. Like I said... Russia isn't exactly a good guy, but they do play an important part in keeping a balance of power. The west is out to completely destroy that balance. And it's not good for their people. Soon enough it won't mater where you live. China, Russia, US, Europe... we'll all be forced into totalitarian systems where you're nothing but a pawn of the government with no rights at all.

Ealan, which language audio did you choose. Only the German audio shows Atmos for me. The British audio is only 5.1 and that's the only English one I see.

I have 7.1 setup and this movie sound track was bad. You couldnt hear allmost anything from back or surround speakers !

This is a good war movie but it absolutely sucks compared to the original 1930 version. There’s zero character development because they cut out the entire boot camp part of the original. You really don’t know or care for these plastic characters like the original. Do yourself a favor and watch the original first.
