@@AllamHouse totally! I’ve been watching a bit of your videos for sure. I just started digging into the x32 and have been trying to get as much info as is possible when creating mixes and such. Right now my issue is understanding routing so that I can make changes as needed and being able to add/implement effects such as reverb into my signal flows for instruments or vocals. Your video about Moving the signal flow and effects was very helpful. I will try to mess around with that. Lastly, I’ve noticed when I save my scenes and go home to try and understand them via x32 edit app. It doesn’t pull up the settings and routing as they are at my board. Any thoughts?

This video here might be helpful as it covers specifics for a live stream mix with custom FX and such. While you are not asking about a live stream mix, your monitors are on a MicBUS and this live stream video discusses a mix on a MixBUS so it is relatable. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pn7RkpyreJpoiLs For taking your scene home, make sure to put a thumb drive into the console and “Save to USB”, then make sure to click the second SAVE button to make sure it actually prints to your thumb drive. Once you get home, make sure to properly load from your thumb drive and not a random scene on the computer.

Thank you! I'm curious why you have a reverb and delay for your livestream?
@AllamHouse14 күн бұрын
I use a reverb to help add an artificial room sound since I don't usually have room mics. This puts your mix in a virtual space making it pleasing to listen to instead of a super dry mix. The delay is used mostly for vocals and helps to add a tail to their sound. Keep in mind when you send your broadcast to some devices that are mono, the reverb in your mix will typically fall apart and the delay is the only one left to help support the artificial space necessary when no room mics are present.

Regarding mute groups and DCA mutes, If you assign a channel or group of channels to be controlled by a DCA, You can use the DCA's mute button to obviously mute the sound from the selected channels. Instead of having redundant mute buttons which could become confusing when it comes to getting your audio back when both are pressed. For groups of channels i prefer using a DCA and its mute. For busses and special applications I prefer using assigned mute buttons unless I am also assigning a DCA then I will use the DCA's mute.

Thank you. I’m trying to use the Dual Guitar Amp to beef up a DI connected Bass Guitar on FX5. This works very well, however when I send that signal out my USB card to an iPad, the effects aren’t sent. Is there a different way to route this so I can send the wet signal via USB? Thanks
@AllamHouse Жыл бұрын
Yeah, by default the X-USB outputs grab the signal right after the preamp and do not pickup any onboard effects or the channel strip. There is a trick you can do that I call the P-16 truck and it will allow you to change the tap point going out the card outputs. Check out this video here kzbin.info/www/bejne/bHuvi6qaZa-Fn5o

For eg. Sending a reverb to a stage monitor) Does sending a signal itself means the signal is affected (wet) from that point, or we always need a return channel for the wet signal to be effected?
@AllamHouse Жыл бұрын
For the Send/Return type effects like reverbs and delays you will send the dry signal to a Bus. The Bus sends into the effect and then the effected sound returns back to the console on the set FX return faders. The original signal is still dry and you will add the effected (returned) signal to your mix in the desired amount. I hope that helps.

can you please help? I connected the rca (red and white) to the echo amplifier input then to the mixer send aux (with stereo 1/4" jack). After that I connected another set of rca (red and white) to the echo amplifier output, then to the mixer return aux. I turned up the aux knob at the channel 1 where the mic is connected, but I did not hear any echo. I double checked the connections and everything was connected properly. Do you have any ideas why I am not getting any echo from the echo amplifier? Thank you
@AllamHouse2 жыл бұрын
This sounds like you are using the AUX Outs to try and send a signal to some outboard delay FX rack. You have two options to make this work, but both will require a little bit of routing to make work. 1) Insert You can set the AUX out to be an insert to a specific channel (mono) and then the signal returns to an AUX In (mono or linked stereo) 2) Use a BUS Pick a BUS and send the desired inputs to the BUS. Route the BUS to go out an AUX Out to the FX rack. Then send the return signals to the AUX In and add to your mix.
@matholiver13 жыл бұрын
Great tutorial. Just one question: is there any audible difference in the reverb when the send is mono? because the effect comes back stereo, right!? In the case of vocals, I believe there won't be, but in the case of the band, with all pans, the signal will be sent in mono? just one side of the channel???
@AllamHouse3 жыл бұрын
The short answer is no. All FX are designed to take in a mono signal and then artificially produce a stereo signal (return) according to its' parameters and settings. Your mix will be made up of the individual inputs (and their specific pan) and then the FX returns are added into this mix to add custom effects, delay, space (reverb), etc., but you can always turn these FX off and be left with your original mix.

Hi, hopefully you can help me. I am trying to decide if there is no problem using my Audio Interface as a FX with Plugins into my Amp's Send & Return FX Loop so i can use VST Time Effects Like Reverb or Delay with my Tube Amp...is it safe to do so? Audio Interface Line Level Input to Amp FX Loop Send, then Audio Interface Output to Amp FX Loop Return and load Reverb or Delay in my DAW in real time.
@AllamHouse2 жыл бұрын
I would go the route of using the X-USB output on the back of the board, going to a DAW and then sending your FX back to the console. Keep in mind (since you mentioned time-based FX) there will be some latency. Here is a video that discusses this exact setup kzbin.info/www/bejne/b2fHp56DmcSno9k

Question regarding technique adjusting levels for FX send/returns. If I want more/less of an effect, say I want more Delay going to FOH, is it better to push up the fader on the bus sending to the delay effect, or is it better to push up the faders on the delay's FX return pair, or does it matter at all?
@AllamHouse3 жыл бұрын
In theory either approach would give you the same outcome. If you are sending these effects into your stream and house at different levels then you will want to focus just on the input (bus) side for volume control.
@danielalexis94093 жыл бұрын
Hi Dave, How are you Sir! Hope all is well. How do you set up a channel fader assigned to a particular effect send. For example, let's say that the effect bus send is at unity and selected and "send on fader" button is activated, do you set the channel fader at unity and use the effect but L/R return to control the effect's volume? How do you run it please?
@AllamHouse3 жыл бұрын
I usually start with the Inuit fader at unity (with all other things as you explained) which will give you a lot of that effect. Then you can turn down the return to the desired amount. If you have more than one input going into the FX rack you can use the input faders to build a mix going into the FX and this will help proper balance between inputs in the effect.

I been blessed by being asked to learn how to use the soundboard at church. However, seems my instructors are limited in knowledge compared to my desire to desire to deep dive; I love to learn (INTJ if know what that means). Did a search and happened on your channel researching how to get solo into the headphones, then found this. My question then what are these FXes? In other words, what is their application(s) and effects? I searched the channel and found nothing, did I miss it? Thanks in advance! PS I have found my Autism to be a blessing to the worship team (I been helping with live stream), one practice heard this awful feedback no one else could hear in the house sound. I been tested professionally and by accident in science class, my hearing range is past average, volume and especially frequency.

Thanks for writing in and I love your positivity toward your opportunity to help your team and add value. The FX (effects) are tools to help embellish or control the sound more than normal. As an example an EQ is a effect and a compressor is an effect. These are cos commonly used that they are added in-line on the channel strip by default. Other items like a reverb or a delay can be used to embellish the sound of one instrument or a group of instruments. If you watch through these videos of my current setup, you will see how I turn on/off my FX and talk through the different sounds I’m hearing. Also, going through my “How to Practice” playlist will walk you through practicing FX at home. kzbin.info/www/bejne/e2bbqn2OltGcg8k

So it is wrong to have the send bus send to the stereo bus right?
@AllamHouse Жыл бұрын
If you are sending the bus into an FX rack you do NOT want to send that to your mains as well. You are only using the Bus as a way to get multiple inputs sent to the desired FX rack. If you do send the Bis to your house mix it will add more of the dry signal and most likely ruin your house mix.

I wish the people running sound at our church would take the time to watch tutorials like this or a course that the church would purchase for the team. We know how to use the X32 about 20%, and our mix is horrible. But I feel like only I hear how bad it is because I've learned a ton about sound and mixing - problem is, in the drummer and the video tech, and the leadership doesn't trust me - mostly because they're scared I'll do something that will mess up what we already have and it will crash and burn and our Sunday service will be toast...
@AllamHouse2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the encouraging words. I do try to produce content that will add value to those people that are looking for help. I have my church team do a "listening exercise" where they objectively listen to their mix and others and try to verbalize the differences between the mixes. We don't approach it from a good/bad language, but just differences. Maybe that is a place to start the conversation. I have a video coming out soon where I walk through taking a clients scene and tracks and rework their livestream mix to produce a better product. If you all have multitracks that you record you can also save their current scene, make a new one for yourself and then push the tracks back through the console in an "exploratory, test environment". Worst case scenario, you can always reload the original scene and go back to how it was from the beginning. Let me know if you have other questions. Good luck with the next steps.
