I have so much respect for Propellerheads. Even though they still miss some things to be on top with the big fish, they are so innovative and with this progression, they will very soon be un-matched in various fields!! Sure, slicing has been around since 1994 with recycle, and slice stretching since 2001 with ableton live, but some of the features for quantizing, the accordion scaling, being able to bounce to rex loops and even just chop in place are exciting additions to the Reason workflow.

That's the whole point of why it's taken Props so long to get where they are now. Stability and User Interface are equally the #1 aspect of Reason. Every time they introduce a few new features, they do an open (or with RE, closed) beta beforehand to make sure system stability isn't compromised. The features being introduced in R7 have probably been in development since Reason 5 or earlier and just kept under wraps. Software development, when going for stability, takes a very long time.

The full non-upgrade version to new buyers will be in the $5-600 US arena, up there with everyone else (Pro Tools, Live, Logic, etc). That's also the nature of plugins in general; complex synth emulators like the PX7, Predator, M-Tron (ReTron for Reason) and such cost hundreds of dollars no matter what platform they use (VST, AU, RTAS) just because of what kind of work goes into them.

Id have to slice and manually move my cuts in FL and Reason does all that automatically and without slicing? And "squichy draggy editing" is amazing!!

The MIDI-editing in the sequencer has been around since the sequencer was introduced. They're just now getting around to implementing slice detection and timestretch-by-slice to audio. If you mean MIDI out, that's also coming in Reason 7.

I'm not an avid user of Reason. I use Logic. But out of all the other software, Reason is the only one I've been able to use without having to look for manuals...I have ableton, and I have no idea what to do with it. It's all about it not being intuitive enough to let me get in there without losing my patience. One week ago i did a sequence for an entire song on Reason. Nothing special about it; except I hadn't done a song in Reason in over a year. still remembered how to. It's the interface.

Excellent. Now adjusting vocals will be easier with slice markers. :) I never know how to manually splice them and adjust without a slide ruler. :)

That's kinda what they're doing now with Reason Essentials; it's the "basic" version of Reason without most of the instruments and effects (but full access to the entire RE library), and Reason is the "pro" version which costs several times more. The thing people have to keep in mind is that pro studios don't use just one tool, be it Pro Tools, Abelton, Logic, etc. They use whatever tool is right for the task at hand. Now that Reason has this kind of audio editing, it'll get more "pro" usage.

A friend of mine had this feature in Pro Tools and we/I never saw him use it. As an owner of ReCycle there's almost no use for it anymore with Reason 7: almost. I'm excited! I also find it amazing how the update only costs $130 considering the PX7 is $99 and it's a mere rack extension. Something doesn't seem right? :)

Not all features of ReCycle have been carried over to Reason 7, so professionals will still find it useful for its advanced features. Reason 7 just brings over the most useful features into the sequencer.

You need to double click on your audio to bring up your slices before you can bounce to REX, Broseph

i think that is cause you are trying to bounce it when its not open click on the audio file so its open witht the slices then try bounce it

The same as Live? Now where do I begin... Live 9: After I warp an audio track I can't select markers with drag select; I need to click one, then shift-click the other. Ever tried to "multi-track select" as shown at 2:44? That's right: not possible either since you don't see multiple tracks like this. This isn't the same, by /far/. Instead; for me (Live/Reason user) this is going to become an awesome extension to it. Don't hate; try embracing instead! You'll also have MUCH more fun.

2:57 I'm having some difficulty bouncing the audio to a Rex loop...when I right click the the track, and go to Bounce --> Bounce clip to Rex loop, the option of "Bounce clip to Rex loop" is not clickable. What can I do to fix this?

I've been a Reason user since 1.0. I also use other DAW's: no single program does everything that I want or need, all the time. It's great that Reason 7 has incorporated ReCycle technology but the Props deserve criticism for delaying it for years. As some others have mentioned: Ableton Live has had their equivalent Warp marker features since v 1, Cubase has Hit Points, so Reason is hardly unique in this matter.

The marketing makes it seem more exciting than it really is. Reaper's latest pre releases have a similar functionality and Ableton had it forever. It seems Propellerhead rely too much on good marketing than actually making Reason the best it can be...yeah they listened to some feature requests this time around but how long did it take? Too little too late...

I've taken a lot of flac from Ableton users, and I don't even know why it's such a big deal. Reason is for people who want a ridiculously intuitive interface. That's all. Then all I hear about is arguments about other stuff, when all I care about is the interface. None would dare claim that Ableton has a more intuitive interface.
