I was the coolest kid in highschool , walking around with this box with portable speakers going though the halls. I'd spend time at home loading up samples from tracks people knew. I'd bring the dr-202 also and people would rap to the beats in the halls. Oh those were the days

@@myautobiographyafanfic1413 No problem! The Clay Cats series of videos are pretty awesome. I believe most of them are parodies of famous horror/action films of the 70s-90s, but with cats. The SP-202 does have a cult following! There's some of us who cook up whole tracks on it. Got to give a shout-out to Lord Beatjitzu, the true 202 don! The lo-fi 1 setting sounds so nice, I can understand why the prices are rising, there's nothing else that sounds close to it. The same way the Akai S950 gives samples a certain sheen

Love this machine. It was my first sampler and I learned sampling with it. Bought mine at around 1999 and took it to every gig since then.and still today. This thing can be a monster! I fucking love the SP202, everything from the simplicity of use to the visual design to the crunchiness you get when sampling in a 33 LP at 45 rpms and then pitching that all the way down for the nice artifacts. I’ve been using mine as a companion to my 404 since the pitch shifting effect on the 404 is absolute garbage. Really great machine as a companion to other gear, and a great simple battery powered little sampler; it’s unfortunate they’re so expensive now. Btw if you press cancel + record it allows you to set auto trig level (i usually like -4-) so you don’t have to trim empty space at the beginning of the sample. Great video and jams!

@@AudioPilz oh but if you mean clicking like how samples can “click“ if you chop the start or end point on a non - zero crossing, then you still may need to fiddle with the “Mark” button after recording the sample. Unfortunately cropping samples around those clicks has been a hurdle on all the SP’s (except the 404 MkII )

I passed on the Sp-202 a few years ago in favor of a Zoom Sampletrak, it was cheaper and more feature packed, btw you should probably review it if you get the chance, it’s the sort of gem of a potato this channel showcases

7:30 was nice. I love how the BPM toggled between 103 and 145 :) The prices on these are just stupid. I have one of those SD cards in my JP-8080, but I just went to remove it to see, and well, it appears to be *melted* in place. Damn.

This is a thing I own. Right now, it has been dedicated to my 5 year old son as a way to record himself saying random things and then timestretching and throwing delay on himself. I have had this for probably ~20 years now, and lucked out in buying a memory card for it years ago. It was overpriced back then ($60 or something), and I cannot believe (judging by your video) how ridiculously priced they are now. Love your videos, btw. I have a number of devices you have covered, and I feel you give them a fair shake. Cannot wait for another piece of my gear to appear in your "reviews."
