Chris once said this song was about a man waiting for death, and I'm pretty sure the "man" was himself, which is pretty eerie to think about considering that he killed himself.. a lot of people at the time thought he was talking about a woman and it was a love and "romantic" song when it clearly wasn't, he even talks about his deathbed and wanting to go to heaven, just shows he was already thinking about it way before but sadly no one realized it.. RIP Chris 💔

HEYYAA, THANKS for dropping by, we do apologies that we responded late, yes agreed, by the way he said it , we too felt it was something to do with him, and it is such a loss to not have him around anymore, he was an awesome singer and person himself. RIP Chris ❤️

He said it his search for god. Think about it, my house has many rooms...I will prepare a room for you. He said, like a stone, I will wait. I long to be in your house.

The chorus 'I'll wait for you there like a stone, I'll wait for you there alone' refers to a man waiting for his death. Not every single song is about love or drugs. He's singing about is like a guy waiting alone in a house of death. Tim once said that in an interview.

Hi folks, may I ask for a reaction to Audioslave gasoline, set it off, like a stone, or Cochise live on letterman? It was in New York and it was their debut. Indeed a special time and a special place. They actually did Cochise twice in this show because that was the song being aired. the rest of the songs were for the crowd only. That being said the first performance is the best but no real live footage just audio. Gasoline from that show IMO was the best. Audioslave - Set It Off / Gasoline (Live on The Late Show Marquee) - KZbin
