There's no excuse to hit a well behaved pit but you do sometimes have to strike large dogs due to their increased pain tolerance. An open palmed slap is like a love tap to a pit, you should never hit a dog because you are frustrated though. There is no excuse for that.

Even if there was no bite the simple fact they have said it’s been involved in an “incident” will more than likely have the impound people declare it a dangerous dog. In 2006, I came across a dog who had run away from his homeless owner and apparently regularly did. He was in a horrible state. I called the RSPCA and they returned the dog. I lost a huge amount of respect for them that day

When a dog gets abused, it's to be expected for the abusive possessor to get charged for possessing a dangerous dog, it's automatic. Police haven't got resources to afford rehousing dogs, sorry. If the dog belongs to someone prior to it being in the hands of the abusive possessor, then the police ought to re-home the dog before returning the dog to the original owner who had the dog before the abusive person who possessed the dog ended up with him, but other than that the police cannot do much about rehousing dogs. The problem is that the police had failed to return dogs back to the non-abusive rightful owners after the police seized the dog off the person who abused the dog.
