I don't think officers need to know every law on the books. That said, they should know the Constitution, Bill of Rights, and the basic laws dealing with their chosen position. I wouldn't expect a courtroom officer to know traffic laws, but a Highway Patrol Officer should. It's not unreasonable.

I agree....also I have to disagree with the assumption that because "important government officials" are in this building that you NEED to relinquish your ID....first off they are public servants voted in office to do a job...let's not elevate them to godlike status ...and also...those individuals are NO safer by the fact those auditors gave up their IDs....a person who is actually there with malicious intentions could easily get fake IDs and continue unfettered....it's the actions once you enter the building what should be the important part...if you deemed someone "extra suspicious" for whatever reason...keeping an eye on their activities would prove more advantageous toward security than just checking an ID and letting them do whatever.

Another thing that should stop is no knock warrants especially based on flimsy Intel from a dodgy informant, so many innocent people have stared down the wrong end of dicks with automatic rifles or outright murdered. I'm not in the camp of the defund the police movement but I really think they need to demilitarise them and just have s.w.a.t units tacked up for situations like active shootings, if you dress the police up like soldiers going to war then that's exactly how they will behave 🤔.

What you need to understand is that just because one supreme court gives a ruling on the bill of right doesn't mean that they are right. As you can see with the overturning of all the 2nd amendment infringement that going on now. We have to get to the point in this country that the bill of rights is not something that another man can tell you that you can not do. While I somewhat agree with your point, this is the capitol building and I would think they are trained to be super safe. Sometimes, the law officials can't win. A terrorist gets in they get blamed, so you can understand them erring on the side of caution, especially when they come across two auditors, who looked like they were only interested in causing trouble....

Yep. It's more like a B for the cop and a D for the auditors. The cop was brusque, but he was correct to request an ID and just doing his job. He could act less like a drill instructor and be a bit more relaxed with the public, of course. The auditors were kind of making stuff up. While it's a shame we're stuck with all this building and airport security, and while there is lots of room for improvement overall, I don't know that having a single officer and a metal detector is all that egregious. TSA is a whole other story, of course. I don't imagine these auditors will head to ATL and try that, though.

When you give up your name it allows it to be used or ran without your permission. Why people are continuing to be okay with submitting is beyond me! You know it's bogus to when how many other buildings did they go in and it was no problem. It's just ego from the government once again over stepping there bounds to put a leash on the public. @@RichM3000 I think a C- is fair enough for the officer. Although was doing his job correctly, it clearly wasn't because he actually understood it, just that he was doing what he had been told to. He's great at following orders to the letter, but not understanding the law behind the orders themselves; in this case the instructions he was following were correct, but they won't always be, and even when they are he seems pretty bad at actually explaining them, which is going to hurt his case for lawful action in more unclear circumstances down the line when he has to justify himself. If playing door guard isn't his only duty as an officer, I think he should probably get more in-depth training. Definitely agree re: the auditors, an uncomfortable amount of these people are out there giving the concept of auditing a bad name and making trouble where they really don't need to.

These auditors need to educate themselves more throroughly on relevant laws before they start making legal claims. I think it's a great idea to keep law enforcement honest and remind them they don't have blanket authority, but auditing with a paucity of knowledge bring one into nuisance territory.

Point #2 -- The "Search and Seizure" in Indianapolis v Edmonds was referring to the temporary detainment of the Vehicles "freedom of travel" so police could ATTEMPT to ask questions, check for alcohol smell, etc, NOT THE MANDATORY PERSONAL IDENTIFICATION OF ALL PASSANGER/DRIVERS.

Officer Frasier reminds me of a drill instructor I had back in 1970. I think he had already served 2 terms in Vietnam and was aware that most of us were likely to be KIA. He had one hell of an attitude but then what drill instructor doesn't. I just think he's doing his job but then he could've been a little more friendly.

I went to the Nebraska State Capital Building. My wife was taking a tour for her job. I wandered around and ended up on the 4th floor where I found a small office called the Sorghum board. I happen to love Sorghum so I walked in. I walked out with a bunch of nifty little trinkets. Stickers, keychain pressure gauge, and a pocket knife! Just a little penknife, I carry much larger everyday, but I walked in had a chat, was armed by the State, and left with a good story. Nebraska is awesome.

Government building need to have some amount of security, i mean if i want complete unfettered access to Constitution to put your fingers all over it that should not be allowed, and think the officer acted appropriately stern in order to keep an escalation from occurring without taking a chance on a detraction that could interfere with the safety of the building, from what was read in the video on the law they could have been charged with a valid misdemeanor , i think officers did a great and found a perfect balance, the officer actually deescalated in 3 tiers with only tone and body language, while using polite professional verbal commands while showing a very efficient execution of his duties, that is in my opinion is high functioning professionalism in the extreme, artfully done

@@lady4191 If you are going to "audit government overreach", you need to at least know your rights, correctly, first. Just because there is the 4th Amendment doesn't guarantee you access to a great number of places. Private property. Military bases. Power Plants. Municipal water facilities. Government owns some of those places, and yet somehow, the 4th Amendment guarantee against search and seizure isn't also somehow a free travel pass at the same time. One can be against government and police hostility and overreach AND ALSO be against naïve individuals misinterpreting what the laws actually permit them to do.

I'd give the officer a C+, because although he began with an unprofessional and threatening manner, he did calm down and began to engage in a more reasonable manner. Reversing yourself once you begin on a path of escalation is not always the easiest thing to do. I give him credit for that.

NOT THE SEIZURE OF PERSONAL IDENTIFYING INFORMATION OR DOCUMENTS!!!! Point #2 -- The "Search and Seizure" in Indianapolis v Edmonds was referring to the temporary detainment of the Vehicles "freedom of travel" so police could ATTEMPT to ask questions, check for alcohol smell, etc, NOT THE MANDATORY PERSONAL IDENTIFICATION OF ALL PASSANGER/DRIVERS.

When it comes to going into buildings namely court houses, they often will give you less freedoms then on the street or side walk due to the sensitive nature and often require checks, often being both ID and Metal stations. When it may be open to the public, there is history of needing such measures to keep people safe. When the officer could be nicer, he so far from what I seen, is not legally or even morally in the wrong.

I'd have to give the senior sergeant an A. He articulated the requirement to present identification to enter the facility, and he declined to engage in silly arguments to the contrary. On the point of presenting ID to document access, the auditors were just plain wrong. Officer Frazier on the desk did spin out of control quite easily, and it might be fun to poke that bear just a little longer. That was very entertaining!

Yeah, the supervisor was quite alright. He wasn't able to explain the principles, but at least he didn't overreach but instead chose to better say too little than too much. Although that's a common thing that further fuels the impression that they often really don't understand what they are enforcing, but merely accept it because it is common policy. I.e. typical authority-bowing followers, where much more examination of the roots is necessary.

I went to the Texas state capital a few years ago. There were two security lines, one for the general public and one for concealed hand gun licensed people. They asked the governor at the time, Rick Perry if he was concerned about the number of armed people in the capital, he replied he wasn't bothered by law abiding citizens being armed and besides that, he was armed also.

Agreed. Why are a few 'High Ranking' persons given protections far beyond those given to the average member of the public, to the extent that the public's 'inalienable rights' can be cancelled out? Could it be that as the few high ranked public servants are the ones that make the rules, they can make them to suit their feelings? While ATA has shown that the rules are in place, and the Officers can enforce them, it doesn't stop the fact that the rules are essentially wrong to start with.

Something like that. I would give him a B- or maybe a B. While Trooper Frazier was hostile, and made minor misstatements of other Georgia law, he neither exceeded the bounds of his authority nor used any excessive force throughout the interaction. A grade of B is appropriate.

That’s also a clear lack of understanding of the law, Capitol policy, and constitution, from the auditor. They did themselves no favors regardless of the officer being a prick. Trying to audit without knowing the law simply makes auditors look bad.

NOT THE SEIZURE OF PERSONAL IDENTIFYING INFORMATION OR DOCUMENTS!!!! Point #2 -- The "Search and Seizure" in Indianapolis v Edmonds was referring to the temporary detainment of the Vehicles "freedom of travel" so police could ATTEMPT to ask questions, check for alcohol smell, etc, NOT THE MANDATORY PERSONAL IDENTIFICATION OF ALL PASSANGER/DRIVERS.

Usually it's a cop wrongfully telling someone they can't film....as a citizen with no desire or need to film a fucking police dept parking lot or courthouse, this is meaningless to me.

Parent looking at child about to step on a snake, DON'T MOVE ANOTHER STEP Sgt watching me about to break a trip wire, Mc STOP RIGHT THERE, DON'T MOVE AN INCH, I moved and got my tackle blown off, which probably explains why I don't have children and why I'm still a virgin @ 71 and live in a wheelchair Not that I questioned my Sgt but I was in the middle of a step and I thought putting my boot down wouldn't cause any problems

A couple of guys want to barge into a professional building with no justification and are actively ignoring the security guard. It's not like the guard asked them to do handstands or put on clown noses. He just asked for identification.

As a State Government employee (not Georgia), I am fine with however security wants to act when something seems fishy. A lot of weirdos and angry people try to get into my building, and I'm thankful for the protection. Out security isn't rude like that first guy, but you don't know what he has to deal with every day with people trying to get in.

I agree. The officers were right in this case. They were following procedure. The auditors were in the wrong here. He had the authrority. This is why I disagree with this video's grading. The officers get an A+. The auditors get an F.

@@cainabel6356 I understand what you're saying but the officers should be graded on their behaviour, not the auditors'. The officers certainly followed the law but their temperament and knowledge could've been a little better. From what I can tell A+ is hard to get and pretty much requires flawless execution or going above and beyond. I personally could see them getting up to around an A-. Following the law is a basic expectation, not really exceptional.

Dude I was gonna comment it'd fucking suck to be this guy's son or daughter. I've collaborated with other medical professionals that act like that cop. Up to that point I had never met someone like him. I was speechless and laughed. Not my best moment, but these people really are out there, and strange. I've heard a lot of people either support Audit the Audit's assessment, or lash out, saying the government shouldn't have any right to ID. Not many people have commented on the one thing I found appalling in the video, which was the behaviour of the security guy (cop, I assume). A little bit of pleasantness and customer service goes a long way, and maybe people wouldn't be reacting to the ID and metal detector thing so strongly if he's been nicer.

This is what gets me. If someone has an issue with the government, it's a 1st Amendment issue: Redress of Grievances. They should be able to calm/dissolve a citizen's issues by explaining the purpose, but all they generally know is the word "obstruction" to create fear of retaliation.

This is why that that most "auditors" just cause more problems than they solve. They just think they understand the Constitution but do not understand the law. I bet the officer at the desk was an MP. He is very direct and firm. I actually appreciate people like this protecting our government buildings and don't think he deserves a "C."

They think they know all the laws better than public service employees. Sometimes, they are right, but most of the time, they just come off as jerks. The officer at the desk was just doing his job.

When I was in the USAF and I spoke to any civilian the way he spoke to that person, I wouldn’t leave base for 6months lost my rank and pay and had to write a formal apology letter to the civilian I said that too and nicely framed art. 15 to hang on my wall. You treat those that you serve with respect and dignity as given to them by God.
