Since Jane left Blanch wasn't necessary anymore so he says he's been outmanuvered like in snooker when in reality he was outmanuvered in his quest to make Jane very jealous. 😂 All would be very wrong if Blanch wasn't such a golddiger and a b*tch.

@OreadNYC4 жыл бұрын
I think you mean Bessie, not Sophie. Sophie is Adele's nursemaid, and she speaks no English. In fact, in some productions (such as the 1983 production), they don't even bother casting anyone to play her although they did here.

"Seeing as you're a governess, I thought you might explain the concept of the 28-day week to me." I just love how playboy he looks here, casually sitting on this archway like he's been waiting there since he left Blanche at the pool table 😂 It's hilarious. (Edit) Alright, the way he interrupts his rant and looks at her when he notices her holding in her laughter!!! It's brief but I'm at odds between interpreting it as shock at her amusement, or shocked that he's finally seen her laugh. He looks both pissed and stunned at how pretty she looks laughing. This Rochester is hard to read, but I still love him.

On the whole I can't watch this version because it has the absolute worse Post Wedding Scene. I can't handle Rochester screaming at her, roughly pulling her down staircases, and accusing her only caring about improving her social status. Don't get me wrong the book has some disturbing lines about crushing her, etc, but this Rochester gets, if not physically abusive, then in the ballpark, and questions Jane's integrity, which is unacceptable. Still this scene is delightful and I love the back and forth between the actors. "Pilot did not receive a letter." Ha, Jane you slay me.

Lifeisshort214 the man is a narcissist . The more versions I see, he more convinced I am. Not a good person. Will read the book again to confirm my new opinion. I read it about 40 years ago. Why does it take so long to see something like that?
@graveyardghost26033 жыл бұрын
@@judithberman7566 disagree--if he wasn't a good person, he would have left Bertha in Jamaican insane asylum, instead he takes her to live in his home in England, even though he has to confine her to one room with a nurse. He is all blustery and commanding, but there are plenty of reasons why that would be the case. Perhaps read the book again. When you read the story as a more mature person, i.e. older, you understand human nature a lot better. Rochester is a complicated character, but so is Jane--and she understands him when all is said and done. I dont think he is a narcissist, he is just pretending to be arrogant in order to get Jane interested in him. And hello, it works.
@LeliaVoinea5 ай бұрын
I have seen and lived close enough with someone that is narcissistic at least half of my life. 😢And I recognized and know the patterns of such people.😢 Mister Rochester lacked moral integrity, decency and was disturbingly manipulate but at the same time he was also had some short of self awareness about his multiple faults. He seems to see Jane her like a source of light and salvation in his own dark world especially since he is acutely aware that she is morally superior to him since she has decency, integrity and is sincere . Such people are definitely not narcissistic. Narcissistic people are incapable of having sincer feelings for someone. And although Rochester was definitely a shandy character he was able to show enough character growth and become a better version of himself by the end of the book. He changed partly because of Jane and partly because life give him a harsh lesson in the end by humbling him and making him reflect on himself and his mistakes. Narcissistic people believe there are always right regardless of circumstances, trough their lives they are incapable of any emotional growth and will never change their ways. Rochester however learned from his mistakes.

@МаркШейко-б5п4 жыл бұрын
It can be explained easily. He has been suffering from a long sexual hunger. Also he is not so young to be able keep his temper. So it results in his reproaching\scandaleous intonation. I understand him perfectly well!

@@МаркШейко-б5п so do I, you are right. Maturity teaches things about human nature, that others dont always understand. He has a very passionate nature, and sometimes yes, he tells and shouts and commands--it is just his passionate nature. Jane understands him. I think yours is the only comment I have seen so far who really sees Mr. Rochester how I understand him. Honestly, some women dont mind a man showing passion this way, so long as he has a good heart and doesnt abuse them physically, which describes Mr. Rochester. Jane obviously isn't bothered, and I wouldn't be either. But everyone is different, I suppose. Another thing, yes he is sexually frustrated you are right. He has been married for 15 years to someone he cant be intimate with, and his experiences with mistresses was disappointing as well. No intellectual stimulation either. Anybody would be frustrated. Another thing, is that some women are excited by men who make a show of dominance...make of that what you will, but I know I am right. For my money, Mr. Hinds played this character just right, I wouldn't change a thing :)
