I've never enjoyed watching anyone else as much as this version of Mr. Rochester. Ciaran Hinds is brilliant. He makes a bossy man, humourus and lovable.

This is the BEST version of Jane Eyre! I have seen them all and Ciaran Hinds and Samantha Morton are Jane and Mr.Rochester 🤎

I love this version, too. My favorite Rochester is Dalton, but he was paired with the worst Jane!! Samantha is absolutely perfect, I liked Ciaran, just wish they starred in a miniseries

This is my absolute FAVORITE version! The electricity (connection) between these two actors is the key to its success! None of the other versions can compare with this one. Congratulations Samantha and Ciaran! Excellent!

Thank you for additing your opinion! I almost thought, that I am only one, who love this version, most of people are fanatically fascinated by Timothy Dalton’s performance. But Ciarán Hinds acting has the very poetry of Edvard’s character.

And Samantha of course, she is that good, maybe also because of her own lifestory

Hi, Cris, I am sorry, but it would be disrespectful from my side, if I shorted that story into one sentence, so you can read about it on her wikipedia “Early life” or she also talk about it herself several times, or better said about several different aspects of it.

Ciaran hinds is amazing! I love everything about this movie. His voice, expressions, eyes. Such a strong character, just magnificent. Love Samantha too, great chemistry. I just watched Persuasion today and wholly cow, what a beautiful man and actor. I think I fell in love with him....

In terms of looking the part, Ciaran Hinds and Samantha Morton are excellent as Rochester and Jane. I like the shot which shows just how tiny her hand is in comparison with his as well as the way in which he holds it, suggesting that he would much rather kiss it than merely shake it (especially since anyone who's familiar with the story knows that Rochester already plans to ask Jane to marry him and is merely pretending to be interested in Blanche Ingram).

I thought Mr Rochester was supposed to be unattractive in the book. This man playing this role is very handsome. 😊

I just realized something...Mr. Rochester asks Jane if she will watch the sunrise with him "on the morning of our wedding" even though neither of them has mentioned Miss Ingram yet. That suggests he was giving Jane a clue of his interest and intention, perhaps in order to see if she'd pick up on it -- especially since the "we" they were recently discussing was the two of them, not Mr. Rochester and Miss Ingram. Jane completely missed it and assumed (not without reason) that he meant Blanche.

He says "on the morning of my wedding". Still, he has dropped alot of hints that he has been thinking of her. (It wouldn't be going against convention to marry Blanche Ingram, and he hasn't just met Blanche either.) And the way he asks it while holding her hand -- it's about as close you can get to a proposal, I think that was his intention for her to see it wouldn't make sense for him to marry Blanche, that marrying Blanche would be the conventional and expected thing to do.

Listen again...it still sounds very much to me as if he says "on the morning of our wedding" rather than "on the morning of my wedding." There's no "i" sound there. In fact, even though the end of this scene is not true to canon, the way in which it's staged suggests that Rochester might have been contemplating the idea of proposing right there (when he asks Jane to look at him)...this feeds into what you were saying, that Rochester was trying to see if she would pick up on his intentions.

Taken out of context it does seem like that. He is slowly learning to treat her as an equal rather than a subordinate and he is not used to that.

This version is completely wrong! I'm sure Charlotte Bronte would not like it at all because it does not convey what's in the novel at all!
