I can confirm it's a reality. I've met a bionic engineering professor in one of my university (Pisa, you can look for it) conferences, in which he showed us their work. There are still much work to do but they were already able to recreate sensibility on the prostetic fingers; It's limitated on the fingertips for now since it's a really complicated thing to reproduce.

I'm curious about the sensors that are built into the arm. How effective are they at reading your muscle signals
@LTRX_3 жыл бұрын
I'm sure it has milliseconds of latency since it looks like it's just mounted on the arm stump and can be detached if the owner wants to. Signal transmission ain't really as fast as the synapses traveling through our nerves but it's fast enough to be practical for everyday use.
@emad32413 жыл бұрын
i'm wondering the same
@greg56463 жыл бұрын
It's relatively fast. It's obviously not as quick as brain -> hand, but it works really well for the purposes you would need Interestingly enough, even though I've never had a left hand, the way I operate the sensors is by essentially "imagining" I am opening and closing my left fist. Doing so activates the muscles in the sides of my arm, and transmits the electric signal to the sensors.

I like the fact that they're all working together but there's a huge design flaw they're making that a lot of other prosthesis companies I've noticed have also made. Do you know how a baseball player is able to grasp a baseball for example? It's partially with the palm of their hand; look at the palm of your hand and notice that the it can indent from having numerous bones comprising its internal structure. When I look at the prosthesis by contrast I see a singular solid piece with bendable fingers; sure you might give back basic mobility and a bit of dexterity, but if you really want to step up the design the ability for the palm itself to be able to bend and grasp objects should be considered and incorporated. Otherwise I think the movement of the hand is severely restricted.
@mishanya20778 жыл бұрын
You can't make everything at once. Making even one finger to move in 1D just like the real one is a HUGE problem, have you noticed how prosthetic fingers move so slow and robotic and have low precision... I mean what you are saying will definitely be made, along with soft tissues and everything, but for now the industry is focusing on more basic problems.

Almost all scientific advances has been sparked by the imagination and sci/fi culture. First we humans dream it. Then we write it, paint it, sculpt it, and inspire future generations to birth it. Before you know it we have nano tech, drones, artificial organs, and private space flight. Deus Ex is so grounded in sci/fi practicality that it might as well be Blade Runner which who's inspiration is becoming more and more a reality. Your company should sell designs to actual med tech firms. So in the future when the AI at Circle K who is the New Mombassa Superintendent AI "Virgil" from the Halo game ODST (hope I'm not the only one who noticed his voice when getting thirst busters) rings my order up and tells me to "Have a nice day!" I can walk out with one of your leg limb designs instead of the nails and screws and metal bars I got shoved in there as it is. Just beautiful. Simply beautiful.
@xCobraCommanderx8 жыл бұрын
+coolguythinking But it's not. It's basically a skin for your 3D printers. Sure I'm not gonna have a typhoon in my forearm but someone can make their limb in a style. That's awesome! Earlier this year we saw a guy make Military Grade Boba Fett Combat Armor. Can it survive a Sarlacc? No. Can it stop small arms? Yes. That's awesome! One day someone will make a Hazardous Environmental Suit. You better believe it will be in orange. Ten years ago or so we were advanced warfighters. Now every guy in 10 miles of a hobby town has a freaking drone. That's all I'm getting at. Scientists are dorks, and dorks are scientists.

***** Oh it will never be that crazy. Look at the public now. People still hate each other over who is going to bed with who. Heck look at who is running for president. Anyone who has ever heard the name Alex Jones is so afraid of "microchips and Aliens" already they hardly keep up with the times. Oddly enough it would take unification for a society to be that augmented....something like Helios AI from Invisible War. Plus our world is already overrun by money hungry corporations without Aug Soldiers. This will never be affordable as depicted in this game.
@xCobraCommanderx8 жыл бұрын
***** Look this right here is a prefect example. The world is already high strung. In reality we are all just doing what we want. First; Humans will never give up being human because it feels too good. Drinking, drugging, courtship, gambling, and just about any other vice we can name is only so gratifying because we are living organisms. Trust me people are too lazy, too scared, and this tech the way we are addressing it now in this conversation would be so expensive only the elite would have access to it anyway. Second; The world is just a complicated place full of complicated people. Funny we are having this conversation. My Grandfather was a FreeMason almost his whole life. Ordo Ab Chao Brothers and Sisters. And his son, my uncle served over a decade in the CIA. My father did construction on Wright Patterson Airforce Base. There are no lizard people. Aliens are just a cover story to hide our aircraft from the public and our commie enemies, and the world is not involved in some evil plot. The only malevolence going on in this planet is MONEY. And men in power only want MORE MONEY at any cost or consequence.
@xCobraCommanderx8 жыл бұрын
+coolguythinking Okay that's enough I'm done. It is obvious you have convinced yourself you have all the answers and your only purpose in life at this point is to spread your rhetoric and argue. "Transhumanist" as you put it will never be. That will remain sci/fi loony toons. People are already getting weird biopowered gadgets implanted in their bodies. And guess what the majority of folks say it makes them feel sick. So if just having a LED watch imbedded in you makes you gross and uncomfortable you never gonna have Adam Jensen Augs. It's just not gonna happen. Now a fake limp passing information through electrodes, Yes. Computer boards and transistors that run off our bodies inside our blood stream. Never gonna happen. Never never never. You're running scared from a world you created inside your head.

@zippyparakeet10742 жыл бұрын
@@_John_P imo both of these technologies can coexist simply due to the cost difference. The price of mechanical devices like this one falls drastically over time especially when bionics are no longer restricted to the medical field and are seen as a utility or fashionable, even. This is true especially for countries like the US where the healthcare costs are egregious. Simply put, regrowing limbs is entirely medical and hence could be costlier than bionic limbs. Plus, bionic limbs could also offer some unique pros like enhanced strength, enhanced reflexes, etc. due to a theoretical neural link. Hence, both have their pros and cons which makes me believe both of them can coexist.

@@ap_trial666 an iductor powered bionic arm (the best type as of today) has literally no advantages relative to a biological arm. sometimes there is literally no upside to something as it is literally the best option. the bionics in deus ex do not comply with conservation of energy, maybe beyond the first game, therefore it would be unreasonable to display any knowledge about bionics by using this game as a source; I have my knowledge of bionics from building a bionic arm, and I must sy that it's shit compared to my own arm and I would never want to replace my own arm with it, though it is better than a passive prosthesis and I would consider myself lucky if I could have a bionic arm in place of none.

I just want lasers, flame throwers, strength, 360° turning of the wrist easy and flexible movement.. water resistant, dust resistance and shatter proof and durable, a taser. Bluetooth speakers and can be used as a WiFi source. Anti scratch, metallic and a screen. A wireless charging port in the palm of the hand. A cool super sci-fi futuristic led finish. I'm willing to lose my hand for that

The unrealistic things you've mentioned are flame throwers(where are you going to keep the fuel for it?) Lasers(incredibly power inefficient and storage problem) wifi source(incredibly dangerous for a lot of things I don't have time to answer) surprisingly tasers are super easy to integrate(if you mean shot tasers then no) just have find a way to not electrocute the person wearing it (possibly some non conductive material that not heavy or weak) when I first looked at your comment I was thinking the most unrealistic thing would have to be tasers but when I start to think about it is surprisingly easy when get down to the technical
