Hello from Massachusetts Marilyn. I listened to audio version of I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou. I have had this book on my shelf for so many years so I thank you for this event as I now have experienced her memoir as I quite enjoyed listening to her narrate her own memoir. There are so many interesting books mentioned during this video. I definitely want to continue on with Maya's memoirs in addition to some of the titles mentioned. Thanks again.

I don’t think I’m up to the poetry level of Spanish.😊 but if you want to read one of Nicolasa Mohr books, I will check if they are available in Spanish. I’m pretty sure they are. Or any middle grade that’s good for an adult. Aloha Amiga.

As nice as a word-for-word translation might be for someone who is trying to learn vocabulary, I question the accuracy of such a method (as your example demonstrates). I'd rather have the meaning be most accurately portrayed than have a literal word-for-word translation that does not make sense due to figures of speech, etc that don't cross over well between two very different languages. It's interesting hearing of the Puerto Rican experience in the United States for earlier generations. Besides Italian immigrants, I also have Mexican, Spanish, and Colombian immigrants in the not-that-distant past. My Colombian grandmother told us that, to learn English, she took Spanish to English classes... but backwards! (High level Spanish classes with less English, and continuing backwards until she was at Spanish I, where there was much more English spoken in the classroom) Thanks for creating this book tag!

Hi Tahlia, Your grandmother sounds fascinating. I wouldn't have thought of an idea that bold to learn a language. My sister married a Columbian man and my niece and nephew are very proud of their heritage. It's amazing how different Caribbean countries can be however close they are. Thank you for watching.
