“auld lang syne” comes from scottish gaelic, in english it more or less means, “for old time’s sake.” thank you for doing this rebs. both for yourself, and for old time’s sake.

Paraphrasing here but “TJLC is the best way to make sense of the show before… and after series 4, but perhaps it is not be a show that does make sense”, couldn’t agree more. I’m so glad you’ve found your love for writing and analysis back and I’ll surely follow you along to your new channel if you make one!

I was never able to watch S4 again after it first aired. And after just watching your “we told you, but did you listen” video I realised how deeply I am still hurt. I think the show they made ripped a part of my heart out that might never heal. But I just read a comment here that said “the show they didn’t make was a masterpiece!” and that is and will forever be true! I am so deeply sorry you felt ashamed after S4 for your amazing work. To me you were and still are one of the best and most wonderful “things” around the show. Mofftiss didn’t deserve the dedication and true love you and the whole Johnlock fandoms showed their show. But John & Sherlock do.

your videos were one of the things that got me through a really big rough patch about 5ish years ago, when mental health was hitting me the hardest and making friends was... pretty much impossible in my mind. I had no idea this channel was once again active until I got the notification for this video, and I have to say I am beyond thrilled to see you on my screen again now that I'm an adult and I've grown through stuff. seeing you come back for old times sake is like a reminder of how much I've grown (and also how much I've missed your content). you're incredibly good at show analysis, which is something I love love LOVE, and I hope you've been and continue to be well. :)

I'm watching this before heading over to AO3 to read the final chapter of FaDoW and I'm so excited to see how your version ends, as well as for your future projects. I couldn't agree more about the sentiment that BBC Sherlock still is an influence on oneself, and you have hepled me and surely many other people be more at peace with that. I'm looking forward to what you have in store for us in the future.

I am not quite finished with FADOW, chipping away at it in my (somehow much fewer) opportunities to read fic these days. I am so happy you are back with us, and I look forward to what ever you share with us next. Still doubt I will watch dracula, but i will watch whatever you decide to post about it! :D

OMG I see why you would feel like that at first, seeing as series 4 was a nightmare. However, it was made by fallible humans with divided priorities, and your canon was much more coherent and consistent with the story. Your series was an absolute masterpiece, and I felt hooked on you from the first seconds of the first video. Thank you for keeping it online, it's a gift to humanity. As are you.

Rebs!! For some reason i ONLY JUST NOW realized that you're back?? I loved your TJLC videos so much, and was just as dispapointed as you and all of us when series 4 was... well, the way it was. But your videos showed me that I wasn't the only one who fell for the writers' **** and was convinced there was more to this show, and I'm still grateful you put so much time and effort and energy and love into your videos and explanations. Obviously I don't know you personally but I was so worried when you disappeared, so let me just say I'm really glad you're doing okay and it's sooooo nice to see you again! Welcome back!

Oh god I just gotta say that the title of this video reminded me that I was recently in a production of It's A Wonderful Life and we all sang Auld Lang Syne at the end. I had completely forgotten that Sherlock played it on the violin in A Scandal in Belgravia as well haha, now it's oddly nostalgic :)

So many projects, that's insanely impressive and awe-inspiring 😁 I wish you all the best for these and for the new year 💖 I'm so glad to know that you're feeling much better, that you took time for yourself and are being careful not to get burnt again. Oh, and of course that you've rediscovered your love of writing and analysing, too! Thank you for all your hard work and involvement in all of this! From a Drop of Water is definitely on my to read list! Once again, a very happy new year!

I am intrigued by what you gleaned about Sherlock from Dracula. Have you done a post about this? I did catch the 29th reference, but I haven't watched it more than once due to the horrific fates of the "turned". I"m guessing that's Mark's love of horrible horror making its way into the script. Yikes. I'm really interested, though.
@TJLCExplained2 жыл бұрын
Less than the things that may or may not be Sherlock references, it's more how they approached the adaptation and how it compares to Sherlock. I have a lot to say about that but here was the biggest thing: All I knew about Dracula going in was that Steven Moffat was adamant in a couple interviews that the main character was "bihomicidal" not bisexual. As soon as the show opened with the question "I need to know if you had sexual intercourse with Count Dracula" something snapped into place. The queer subtext was always there on purpose. On some level they *must* enjoy at least raising the question, they wouldn't keep doing it otherwise. I can't say that I know *why* that is. But the fact that they've done the same thing in another show while continuing to claim otherwise in interviews made me feel a lot less crazy about Sherlock. It also made me discount the idea that they're doing it just to bait people. It seems like they enjoy what they're doing, whatever the specific motivations behind it are.

@@TJLCExplained Ah, yes. Traditionally, feeding by a male vampire was usually shown as upon women, as it is a para-sexual act. I recall the clamor over Interview With The Vampire when they filmed Lestat biting and turning Louis in such a sexual way. To me, food is food, male or female, but to someone like Moffat? He always seemed pretty impressed with himself while always coming from a pretty straight-male-privileged position. So he would make Dracula feeding on men a bigger issue than it should be. Or John addressing orientation at Angelo's a huge deal. It was a landmark, but I think he wrote a check he later couldn't cash. The BBC were so keen on LGBT representation - did something change? Were the BBC afraid of 'ruining' a cash cow by repulsing the straight audience? And I always yell at Mark Gatiss in my imagination for not pushing very hard to make Johnlock canon. LE SIGH
