Yeees! This song makes me cry every time. Aurora is not in it for the money, she fights against her label to make her music how she wants. Her lives are like 20 bucks because she wants it to be affordable for us. She really is amazing.
@reverbva4 жыл бұрын
Your thought about making money is what she fought against to make the Step 1 album. Once Aurora is a documentary taking place during the creation of A Different Kind of Human Step 1. She fought to keep the music the way she wanted it. Her managers/record company kept bugging for a “radio” song but Aurora didn’t budge. Thank goodness for her determination because her music speaks to people all over the world. 😊
@aitherisbestgirl8414 жыл бұрын
@reverbva As much as I like her and that documentary that’s not entirely true. Forgotten Love and Animal were definitely made with that in mind. That her labels suck at marketing her kept that from really happening though.
@ilyachap4 жыл бұрын
reverbva Well, if I remember correctly, she had to agree with her producers/label to produce some songs that are more mainstream pop than usual for her. For example, Animal is definitely one of them. I'd argue that Queendom is more pop oriented, too.

Her dancing reflects the lyrics very well. Like a fish struggling in a net, or someone gasping for air and fighting for life. And she adds a kind of tribal aspect to it, kind of going back to our roots as humans living off the earth on a more conscious level, vs our current lifestyle where it's so easy to take earth for granted because if we have money we don't feel the need to be so cognizant of the struggles of famine, drought, etc.

If you enjoyed Runaway more, than I recommend songs like Running with the wolves, Winter bird or I went too far. OH AND MURDER SONG (but acoustic version)!!! All those are from her older album. Her new stuff is more experimental, but definitely in a good way. The Seed is amazing example of it. And if you liked this one, then check songs like: Churchyard, Forgotten love, The River or Animal.

The difference to other artists is that Aurora does not join the mainstream. If anything, she creates a new mainstreams. She lives and believes in what she sings. I know almost all of her songs (and interviews) by now and can say that I have never heard anything like it, or at least not noticed it. Her music doesn't play on the radio. Then I realised, obviously, it must be because of the feeling that you can’t talk about your emotions and show that you’re in pain because pain is often associated with weakness but you know, here in my world it’s not, so the song is inspired by something quite sad but it is also happy because crying can be such a positive experience, especially afterwards when you actually feel a bit lighter. As weird as this may sound, I've always thought that it is kind of an "ode to menstruation"... "you can't remember that day, but you know it happened quiet... Words falling out through the window... all that remains is a silent call: Is the Earth colored red as I land like a flower on the meadow?" "... and I'll bleed in your bed, turn it red, as the land outside your window" On second thoughts, it could be talking about loosing her virginity... that's what it evokes me... Greetings from Mexico!

The normal pop-singers tried to stay away from touchy subjects to not alienate potential fans, but with how the world is now with people basicly destroying the earth that future generations will need all intelligent people realising what happening should take a stance to do something to change it and artists do it their way. But it's not new for musicians to sing of whatever they wanna sing about just go back to bands like Velvet Underground that was formed in 1964 singing about lot of diffrent obscure things that was relevant for them or their surroundings. We all need to make money is true enough but not at all costs, robbing people is illegal and what today's pollution basicly is doing is robbing our kids and grandkids future away unless we we somehow find a new habitable planet we able to move all of earth's population to in a timescheme non scientists so far belive is possible

Whynter Storme hi my friend thank you for taking the time to reply as you may have guessed I'm a huge fan of aurora.i fell down her rabbit hole 4 years ago and have been following her ever since,I have seen her live twice both times were amazing,at the age of 63 you can imagine I have seen many performers over the years but I can honestly say I have never been moved in the way that this young artist has moved me.for me she is everything a true lover of the art of music should be about.the quality of her songwriting that started at such a young age is mind blowing and then you add her voice into the equation it's just something you can coach or teach it's a pure gift.even her arrangements of the covers she performs stand on there own as masterful.if there is one song that I would pick out of all her songs it would have to be a song that she wrote at the age of 9 called Lucky she sings it live at the concert at the cathedral in Norway it moved me to tears would love you to play that for me on your channel one day.stay safe my friend.🍏❤️

@@johndennison3545 lucky is my favorite song of hers. As someone who struggles with thoughts of suicide it really means a lot to me. I believe she is insanely talented as well. She says many times that the music just comes out, and shr wouldn't keep making it if there wasn't some well-spring of inspiration inside of her. I hope she never runs out! I think I found her about 3-4 years ago as well. I ignored the recommended video for months but it just kept popping up. I finally listened to it and that was it. But I think it was the right time to discover her you know? I know Jersh comments about how do we listen to meaningful music all the time and isn't it depressing. Yes, but I can't listen to music without meaning. There's just something more, something inherently artistic in this type of music as opposed to typical party/feel good stuff.

Great reaction! Aurora is one of a kind and I'm looking forward to what else you react to with her. On your comment about staying away from touchy subjects in the entertainment business, I do think that's one frame of thinking, a capitalism mindset, like you said: the dollar as God in a way. But artists commenting on touchy subjects has been happening for a looooong time, so I don't think there's an increase of these types of songs in the internet age or anything. Perhaps with the internet age the medium and speed of communication changes. But thinking about Bob Dylan, Woody Guthrie, Joan Baez, CCR, Public Enemy, Rage Against the Machine, James Brown, Bob Marley, Bikini Kill, Nina Simone, Billie Holiday, Pete Seeger, Louis Armstrong, etc... Yeah, these kinds of songs have been around for a long time. Even thinking about traditional slave spirituals! Some think that Beethoven's Ode to Joy was written in protest. And that's just music! Not even considering films, theater, dance, visual art, or literature. 😄 Now the question around are these songs more noticable, accessible, etc. because of the internet? Maybe. I'd be interested in your thoughts! Thanks for opening up a little rabbit hole for me to fall down haha.

One day humans lost their way, instead we choose to start chopping down the trees that provide us oxygen, food and beauty. We started poisioning the water we drink and the air we breathe. We moved from living in the woods and fields and living in harmony with the world to copy insects and start building houses like the bees and following the queen bee, we started following a hive mentality. We work and earn money claiming were trying to live when instead we should leave our bug like homes and hive mentality and instead go back to our roots. Live in harmony. The environment is a reflection of us and we are a reflection of the environment. Both are falling apart because the harmony is being lost. It's like how a wasp can give birth to its larve on a spiders back and the spider will destroy its beautiful web and make a web that looks weird and horrid for the wasp to live on and when that wasp is born it will kill the spider slowly. It destroys its normal way of living because of the infection left by the mother wasp so it can provide for the baby wasp without knowing and will die because of it. It's similar to us as if something happened in our minds and we started destroying out natural habitat to provide for an intruder. I dont know I can just see the similarities and think the only way of breaking the cycle were going in is to go back to our old ways and learn what is it that were living on, to get a deeper understanding of life and the world around us. To once again live in harmony.

Great video. But i have to disagree with you about the making a statement thing. Music has ALWAYS been political. Look at the punk genre of the 70s, with bands like The Clash making songs about poverty and the oppression of the working class. Look at 90s hip hop, like Public Enemy making statements about race and the police. Third-wave feminism basically grew out of the Riot Grrrl subgenre. Bob Dylan, Nina Simone, The Beatles. Heck, even Yankee Doodles was a protest song.
