A good friend of mine pilots a turboprop Cessna Grand Caravan daily for the past several years up in the Arctic circle of Northern Québec, Canada. The environment is pretty harsh too, blinding snowstorms can come up out of nowhere, ice storms and some of the coldest temperatures on Earth. He has been serving the Inuit communities and the diamond mines, he loves his work. Airfields are often on the ice during the long winter months and on rocky beaches and permafrost in summer.

That's pretty impressive. I think your friend would find flying in the Australian outback too boring considering what he's doing currently. I really miss flying into small dirt strips in the middle of nowhere and playing a vital role in supporting the indigenous of Australia. Tell your friend to take care. Thanks for writing

How do you steer on the ground?
@flyingwithgab28083 жыл бұрын
Smaller aircraft like this have rudder pedals which link to the nose wheel via a bungee system. You push your left rudder forward to go left and right forward to go right. The same pedals can be tilted with your toes which presses down on a hydraulic piston to provide braking. At low speeds the bungee is not capable of deflecting the wheel so you may need to use differential braking which provides additional steering until the wheel is fully deflected. I hope this helps you

Amazing footsge Gab! I'm a CPL holder with 500hrs at the moment and my dream is to fly for a bush flying company in australia. Do you have any recommendations? It doesn't matter where exactly. I know it's kinda difficult to find a job at the moment, unfortunately..

G'day Gummel Thanks for the comment! With 500 hours and a CPL I'd move to Broome and start door knocking and networking. I got my break in Charter/Scenics in Broome with King Leopold Air. Just base yourself there and find a job at the local bunnings or bar and keep bugging the operators for work. Good luck!
