Peter Norman's nephew showed up in a KZbin comment on another video after Gout's 100m final, earlier at the same meet. He said he believed it wouldn't that long until Gout took Peter's 200m Australian national record, but even he wasn't thinking it would be later that same day.

@@TorquayMickno it's not silly, it is based in fact. You may not remember Ben Johnson and what a great Canadian sprinter he was, the toast of a country which largely doesn't care for athletics, except every 4 years when the Olympics roll around. Oh, what a party Canadian had when he beat Carl Lewis in Seoul, he could have been named Prime Minister on the spot...until his positive test result came in and he was stripped of his medal. The speed with which he fell from grace and was forever vilified was quite astonishing...from Canadian hero to Jamaican shame in just a few moments. "Our" champions are so quickly discarded and put in their place (as immigrants, children of immigrants) once they fail "us".

It was Peter Norman that actually gave his gloves to the other athletes. That’s why one holds up his left hand and the other his right. Because one had the left hand glove and the other had the right hand glove.

Not true. Peter Norman explained in an interview once that one of the Americans (I can’t remember which one) remembered his gloves and the other forgot. It was Peter that suggested they share the one pair. Why would Peter have black gloves?

Yes, I understand that but I forgive the announcer on this one because the man's entry, consistent with his birth certificate, says it is as mentioned; the paperwork and error will be corrected in time. What is beyond discussion is that he is 100% Australian - he was born here in the country his parents chose for him and he regards himself as 100% Australian FULL STOP!
