Keep in mind that airport security before 9/11/2001 wasn’t as stringent and didn’t take as long to get through. Carry-on through the x-ray and step through the metal detector. They just wanted to make sure you weren’t packing a gun, knife, or bomb. They didn’t care about fluids.

The actor who played Kevin's cousin Fuller was actually Macaulay Culken's (Kevin) brother, Kieran.
@DamonNomad8214 күн бұрын
Some fun behind-the-scenes trivia about the film... - Fuller (the little kid who has a reputation for wetting the bed) was played by Macaulay Culkin's real-life brother, Kieran Culkin. - Catherine O'Hara, who played the mom, still sends Macaulay a Christmas card every year, signed "Mom"! - The cast and crew for the movie had a very wholesome relationship with many of the people who lived in the neighborhood where the movie was being filmed. The owners of the house across the street from the one that served as the McCallister house in the film let the cast and crew rest in their basement while they were off duty. They were invited to the 90th birthday of another neighbor lady and Macaulay sang "Happy Birthday" to her. - The movie Kevin is initially scared by and later uses to trick the pizza guy and the burglars, "Angels with Filthy Souls", was created and filmed specifically for "Home Alone" rather than actually being an old gangster movie. - John Candy ad-libbed most of his lines, including the story of leaving a child in a funeral home. - The flooded basement scene was actually filmed in the swimming pool of a school located near the "Home Alone House". - Macaulay still has a scar on one of his fingers because Joe Pesci got a bit too carried away during one take of the "finger biting" scene and accidentally bit his finger a little too hard!

Kevin would not get into trouble for protecting his home. Illinois where this story took place is one of many states that have a Castle Law. Simply put, a person has the right to use whatever means to protect their home and themselves to include deadly force.
@YTsupportsZionaziGenocide8 күн бұрын
true... but not always, its selectively applied for example in one case a person might kill an intruder and get away with it, in anther case a remember a black woman firing warning shots and she's now in jail for it. castle law is also outdated in its absolute form as many states have on their books which conflicts with principals under federal law which supercedes state law. for castle law to be absolute, the federal government would have to both adopt it AND apply it equally, currently they do neither. but yes as long as the feds chose not to get involved castle law would protect him.

actually, yes lots and LOTS of salt is used in mummification, however big the body is, 10 times as much salt is required (62kg body with an average volume of 75,000cc = 750,000cc of salt required), and it takes 70 days of dehydration to mummify.... so yes technically you could mummify a body is a trash can, but it would have to consume no more than 9% of the total volume of the can, as the rest would be salt, ergo the can in question is too small. mummification is mostly just dehydrating a body for preservation.

10:09 In 1990 there was almost no airport security. At big airports you had to put your carry-on thru an x- ray machine and walk thru a metal detector but that was it, no taking off belts and shoes, and the only reason you got a rectal exam from the security there, is if you were carrying a gun or sword.

I love watching new reactions to classic movies! Home Alone came out at the perfect time for me, as I was 8 years old when it was released, the same age as Kevin (though a couple of years younger than the actual age of Macaulay Culkin, the actor who played him). I'm also a bit of a know-it-all, so I tend to try to answer questions and post trivia about the movies in the comments. - The film is set in Winnetka, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago and one of the wealthiest communities in the US. - The part of the family that lives in the house includes Kevin, his parents, and his four older siblings: Buzz (the worst bully of the kids), Megan (the one who has the conversation with Buzz in Paris because she's worried about how Kevin is doing), Jeff (the Ron Weasley-looking boy who was also mean to Kevin) and Linnie (the girl who calls Kevin "les incompetent"). The rest of the kids are Kevin's cousins, the children of his dad's two brothers. Kevin's Uncle Frank (the really mean one who calls Kevin "little jerk") is taking care of not only his own kids, but the kids of the third McCallister brother, Kevin's Uncle Rob, who lives in Paris, and who has invited the rest of the family to spend Christmas with him there. - Buzz was making up wild stories about Old Man Marley, but he was correct about one thing: had there been any victims hidden in the salt, it WOULD have turned them into mummies, as salt draws all the moisture out of things and prevents decay. Ancient Egyptians used salt as an important part of making mummies. - The film takes place around 1990 (the year it was released), so airport security was much more relaxed and travelers didn't have to get to the airport nearly as far in advance of their flight times. - The reason Kevin screams (striking the famous "Home Alone" pose in the process) is because he was applying aftershave to his face, and it produced a painful burning sensation. - The scene in which Kevin's mom is trying to find a flight to Chicago takes place in Scranton, Pennsylvania, a few states east of Chicago. It would be a relatively short flight, but a very long drive, which is why it took so long for the polka band she eventually traveled with to get her back to her home. Milwaukee, where the polka band was going, is a couple of hours' drive north of Chicago. - I also thought Old Man Marley looked familiar, but in my case it was because he looked just like a US President from the late 1800s (Benjamin Harrison) and I was a history nerd as a little kid. - Early drafts of the script called for an ending scene that had the burglars in jail, watching TV. The "Angels With Filthy Souls" movie would have been on, and Marv would have suddenly realized where he had heard the name "Snakes" before...

1. John Candy did his part at union rate/FREE for his friend John Hughes RIP both. 😇😇 2. The items in Kevin's bags were not the same as what he had a checkout. 3. Daniel Stern/Marv has arachnophobia. That's why he freaked out. (NOTE: tarantula spiders aren't venomous to humans but look scary). He insisted on only one take. His scream was dubbed in later so not to scare the spider. 4. "Angels with Filthy Souls" is not a real movie. 5. GOOF: Marv has tar all over his foot when he steps on the stairs but when he grabs his foot, and all the other scenes after that no tar. 6. NO WAY could a child get the rope tight enough between the house and treehouse without a winch of some kind. 7. There's ANOTHER NO WAY Kevin could clean up that fast. 8. Home Alone II is good. However, Kevin as good hearted as he is, he gets mean. 9. Macaulay Culkin worked with John Candy (and Hughes) in "Uncle Buck". That's how he got this gig. Great first time/share. HINT HINT
@krisfrederick500115 күн бұрын
I love that John Candy and Macaulay were reunited in this after Uncle Buck. Even though they weren't in a scene together, close enough. Also the funeral story by Candy was completely improvised, which makes it even more hilarious. Marv's spider death scream is legit. He had arachnophobia. The greatest crime in this movie certainly...is that Kevin didn't even get to eat his Macaroni and Cheese.. He is most known for this but also great in other films. "The Good Son" and "My Girl" I highly recommend. "What, now?" "No tomorrow ya egghead yeah now!" 😂

He is adorable, he is totally right in his defense against the bad guys but notice he at no point thinks... you know what would maybe be a good idea is go up to an adult or a cop (which he clearly is running from) and alert them to any of this... instead he sets up a series of increasingly brutal traps ... he left the basement door open remember .. he then taunts them and once again instead of using this time to say.. run for help... he goes "are you thirsty for more". Finally at this point he calls the cops but disguises his voice and gives them another address... he is not calling for help they are going to be part of the Coup de grâce of his plan.. which is as big an ending that an 8 year old can imagine but what if he grows up.... and his new nickname is Jigsaw.... once you know you can't unknow ...

6:20 is the funniest moment in Home Alone imo. It's so brutal, "look what you did you little jerk" is hilarious to me. Quick y'all, lets be awful but without cussing.

From Scranton to Chicago is an over 700 miles drive !

Scranton is in Pennsylvania, so, yes, it's far (it's east of Ohio). Milwaukee is a city in Wisconsin, which is north of Chicago, Illinois.

I'm also Australian and never seen snow before. I used to get jealous of American families at Christmas time (before I knew better about America 😄)

I'm guessing your opinion on Americans doesn't come from firsthand experience.

Nope. Chicago is in Illinois, in the middle of the USA. Scranton is in Pennsylvania, on the East Coast. It's a couple hours north of Philadelphia. Scranton to Chicago is a good 10 hours or so.

There are six Home Alone movies now and honestly 1 & 2 are the best, 3 & 5 are okay, and you can skip 4 & 6. Don’t worry, you won’t be missing anything by skipping them as after the second one they are all standalone movies. Also, I believe they said that the family lives in the suburbs in Chicago.

-Kevin's cousin Fuller is played by Macaulay Culkin's younger brother Kieran Culkin. -Harry's disguise doesn't actually say "Police." Most police officer costumes can't for legal reasons. -If you look closely, Kevin's ticket gets thrown away with all the napkins. That's why they wouldn't notice an extra ticket. -Pre-9/11 air travel was so much less of a hassle. -The Frenchwoman who Kate takes the phone from drops the F-bomb in French. - _Angels With Filthy Souls_ isn't a real movie. Its name comes from the James Cagney gangster flick _Angels With Dirty Faces_ . -The most unbelievable thing about this movie is that Kevin got all those groceries for $19.83. -Joe Pesci kept a swear jar on set because this is a family movie. -Harry's head being torched was done with the old Pepper's Ghost trick. There's a pane of glass in front of the camera, which reflected a mannequin getting set on fire onto Pesci. -John Candy had no scripted lines. He and Catherine O'Hara were part of Second City back in the 80s, and their entire interaction was improv. -Mel Torme re-recorded "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" for the movie.
