Lyrics:
Daddy made some promises he couldn’t keep
Momma said you’ll still see him every other week
You didn’t understand
You were just a kid back then
Two bedrooms in two houses, different sides of town
Feeling like a deck of cards, always shuffled round
With pain that no one knows
Guess that’s the way it goes
But if I could talk to that younger me
I’d hold him close and I’d say these things
All of your tomorrows don’t depend on your yesterdays
And there is more to living than the way that you were raised
If I’m honest, some things heal
If I’m honest, some things won’t
But you don’t have a broken future
Just cause you’re from a broken home
There might be a day you think it’s all your fault
Beating yourself up for reasons that don’t make sense at all
It was not your fault
It was not your fault
And you’ll wonder if your father’s sins are in your blood
Cause you’ll make mistakes you don’t think you’ll find your way back from
But I know you will
The morning’s coming still
All of your tomorrows don’t depend on your yesterdays
And there is more to living than the way that you were raised
If I’m honest, some things heal
If I’m honest, some things won’t
But you don’t have a broken future
Just cause you’re from a broken home
And it’s ok to be mad
It’s ok to cry
And to ask your mom and ask your dad
Why oh why
And it’s ok to feel
Like you’re lost upon the sea
Cause this isn’t how it was meant to be
But you’ll grow up, fall in love, and hold your kids
And you’ll know that you can do things different than they did
And all the hell you’ve seen
Heaven will redeem
All of your tomorrows don’t depend on your yesterdays
There is more to living than the way that you were raised
If I’m honest, some things heal
If I’m honest, some things won’t
But you don’t have a broken future
You don’t have to have a broken future
Just cause you’re from a broken home
Just cause you’re from a broken home

I love this so much. I’ve been raised in a Christian household but by my grandparents. My dad was barely present in my early childhood and is now absent but trying to come back. I always worry about my future and how I’ll be able to be a parent when I didn’t have mine. Thank the Lord that our tomorrows don’t depend on our yesterdays!

@Austin French, you and I share the same story, I've seen my mom cry when I was small, get frustrated because my father did something bad bad. It was hard for both of us, but because of my grandparents and the grace of God and His hand on us, today I've grown more into Jesus more than ever, I never knew love of a father, but after knowing Christ, I know the love of a father far more than I could've ever imagined, I Love my heavenly father so much and He loves me more. And nothing can change that, Amen! Praise Be To God! ❤❤❤❤✝

Thank you for releasing this, Austin. My mom saw you in Fayetteville a couple weeks back and came home and said I needed to hear this song. I’m walking through divorce, myself, right now after experiencing betrayal and broken promises. Every single time I have to pack up my two babies and send them across town to stay with their dad, like I just did three hours ago, my heart shatters into a million pieces. It’s an endless pain, and a situation that I never expected me or my precious and innocent children to be in. My greatest fear is that they will be affected by this, something they didn’t ask for, forever. But surely- “All the hell they’ve seen, all of Heaven will redeem.” That’s the only thing that keeps me going. Thank you for sharing your heart and pointing us all back to the hope of the redeeming cross.

This is an amazing song! It was exactly how I felt when I grew up. After all the bad things happened (domestic violance, my father had an affair, etc), I find its a blessing I met Jesus when I was a kid. I am 32 now. There are some pains healed, some lingers. Yet the love of God helps me to be different, I am not bound by the mistakes of my parents. Thank you Mr French. Its always uplifing to hear your song, keep up the good work. God bless you and your family~

This is a great stepping stone to the story of Gods love, grace and forgiveness. It's such an indescribeable sense of euphoria when you truly give God EVERYTHING and you can just be wrapped in His overwhelming peace. I tell my boys all the time, I promise I will fail them from time to time. That just creates the chance for me to point them to the perfect example of our heavenly Father. I thank God for how He turned my life around, so my boys wont have to live this song out.

I never planned for my son to know what it's like to live between two house holds. I always wanted him to know what its like to live in a household where he is loved and his daddy never leaves. I thought I could create for him. I thought I could make him stay. And I prayed and I prayed for him to stay. But people turning from me and confusion gripping me led me to a man who loves me and treats me like Christ and gives me hope every day, that even though I don't understand, I am loved. A lot of people I thought would be there have hurt me to a degree that I also don't understand. But it's led me to lean on Christ the way I should have from the beginning, and for that I am grateful. I'm sorry it took this, but I'm happy God came through even when I didn't think He would. I thought because of this past that I had to have a broken future, that I was forever stuck in this mindset, in this broken state. I don't know how I got there but I have no one to blame but the devil. Thank you Lord for delivering me and setting me free!!! Thank you that that is not my future and you have better for all of your children!!!! Halleluyah!!!!! Amen and Amen!!!!! Praise God!!!!!!

Tears are streaming! I was from a broken home .. 7 different times. My parents were married 4 times each. And I had siblings scattered all over. And then I grew up and tolerated so much crap to hang onto a marriage so that my kids didn’t go through what I did- a broken home! But after 7 years I couldn’t take it anymore and my boys deserved better, I deserved better. I found Jesus and He rescued my story and saved me from my myself. I then met the most amazing man that raised my boys like they were his own. That was over 27 years ago now. We’ve been married now 25 years and have a daughter together. But I still struggle even after my mom has passed away. And my boys haven’t spoken to their biological father in over 4 years. It’s an extremely difficult road to walk and only Jesus got us through it with lots of prayer and therapy!! So if you’re going through this journey hold on tight to Jesus and fight for peace, love and forgiveness in your heart. Don’t let bitterness get in because that’s what will take you down a path that you can’t recover from! ❤

I have often felt like a “deck of cards shuffled round” as mentioned in your song, but I love how you mention that “all of your tomorrows don’t depend on your yesterdays.” God’s mercies are new every morning! Strength, my brother. It must be very difficult: difficult to love your father, difficult to forgive. He also needs God, Christ, like all of us. I know it is very difficult to live in such an environment, but no matter how difficult it is, do not feel anger or hatred towards it. Since Christ forgave us, I will pray for you, my brother. Cheer up and continue trusting in God, and that everything will be resolved. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to write to me.

Thank you for writing this Austin.💞 This is my story, as well. I know I made a lot of poor choices when I was a teen and into my 20's (I'm 56 now), not realizing it was due to having abandonment issues. Though, I do take full ownership of those choices. I'm thankful the Lord has forgiven and healed me from the hurt and my relationship with my father, but I am very aware that I don't have the type of father/daughter relationship that some have, who had their father with them in the growing years. I know my father tried, but I'm sure he was broken to. This song really hits home.🙏

I pray to our Father for y'all. I feel for you, having known that experience (with my siblings). Our hostile devilish parents did us no good, spiritually. Only God heals broken hearts & lives. & He usually doesn't work in a hurry. We will usually be experiencing ill effects from the maltreatment for the remainder of our lives. i & my siblings have. But God is beneficient, and He is love. & when we keep going to Him, & put forth the effort to honor & obey, He goes on helping us throughout life. We can count on him ! see Psalm 27, + 42-43, & 62. + Psalm 118.

My husband and I are getting a divorce. I’m heartbroken that my children will have to suffer this. There is no other option at this point. This song is heartbreaking yet hopeful. Timely. So many have to go through this.

Sorry. I imagine some people may see dad as different than Father.

I think I know what you are saying. I think you are talking about how some people associate God the Father with their own dad here on earth and sometimes that is a very bad association because their dad here is/was abusive. Is that what you're talking about?

Jesus said call no man on earth thy Father for thou hast one Father he is in Heaven. So I said ok. I even asked the guy that earthly people or people lacking knowledge would call my father or dad, being as honorable as possible if I could call him brother because of it. I said I want to follow Jesus and then asked if I could call him brother and he said ok. It actually went over really well.

And I meant some people may see the word dad as different than the word father and think they are doing God service. Calling a man on earth dad to honor him, but calling God in Heaven Father.
