It is weird seeing Austin Idol playing the face for me. I remember watching him feud with Tommy Wildfire Rich and Mr. Wrestling II on TBS and Georgia Championship Wrestling. He always played the heel. Man, could Austin talk and man could he work. Thanks for posting this as both Stan Hansen and Austin Idol are two legitimate legends.

I respect your opinion and Lance Russell is good, but Dick Lane (in the LA NWA territory, 1960's and 1970's) is the best. He was a fast-talking actor in 1950's 'B' movies playing both thug and cop characters. When it came to promos, he made wrestlers shine in their respective roles. Nobody ever loved the baby faces more than Dick Lane. And nobody hated the heels more than Dick Lane. And he let the heels know it, too! Unfortunately, we have very little footage of Dick Lane as a wrestling announcer. Whereas Lance was more known for his "Aw, come on," Dick Lane was fired up, asking for fines and condemning the horrible acts of wrestlers. In this particular match, Dick Lane would have chased down Stan Hansen and read him the riot act.

Near universal opinion was Hansen was a consummate professional and one of the genuinely nicest guys in the business. Unfortunately he was also basically blind as a bat. Because of his vision issues, he ended up working so stiff no one in America wanted to work with him long term. Dude was money in Japan, so much that the punishment you had to take working with Stan was worth it.

Neal Stanley: True. I love Austin Idol, he was probably my favorite wrestler in the Memphis territory but he could be a handful and a headache for promoters. That and the flying fear is the reason he never got to Hogan/Flair level. Considering some of the shit that's happened to them, you could say Idol was spared.
