You need to make the Langer impressions a regular feature.

They should make "The Test" a series, with seasons coming in, inevitably, every six months.

The voice of Daniel reminds me of my favorite commentator of childhood days Henry Blofield. Can’t forget his commentary in hero cup of early 90s. Hope Daniel will be a regular in Final word. Love his insights and story telling.

Daniel will definitely be involved sometimes. Thanks for your comment.

Watching all the videos of this channel for the past 7 months since India toured Australia. Harsha's interview video was a gem, never thought anyone could come even close to Harsha's soothing voice while talking about cricket, but Daniel is giving a tough competition to Harsha. Hope to see him alongside in a conversation with Mr. Bhogle.

I guess the way Justin Langer is as a man.. the intensity that he brings into the team.. he will definitely fit well with Virat Kohli and this Indian team.. After Ravi Shastri we can definitely can think about Justin Langer in that position.. he would be delighted to work with this Indian team..
@FinalWordCricket3 жыл бұрын
Their problem would be understanding all his stories.

Not at all. There can be only one lion in the jungle. Kohli is the lion in the Indian dressing room. The whole Kumble debacle proved it. Anyone who questions Kohli's authority will be thrown out.

Gilchrist is a liar. He always was. He lied in "Monekygate". he lies every time he played in IPL.

One can be an old school hard ass or a new school aroma therapy guy. Both are fine so long as the rules of engagement are well defined. The bigger problem is when the authority figure is unpredictable, when you can’t predict what gonna set them off. That’s a toxic environment where you have to step on egg shells because you have no idea what’s gonna lead to a blow up. JL seems to be in that category of a seething unpredictable volcano and that doesn’t create a good work environment.

From British Indian casual cricket fan perspective it’s interesting to contrast the England football manager Gareth Southgate to Langer. Now Southgate wasn’t taking over a team that was relatively recently dominating the sport but there was certainly a huge disconnect between the national football team and the fans. Southgate (and the players) have managed to detoxify the image of the national football team, create a genuine bond between fans and the players and go further in tournaments than his predecessors. This isn’t Southgate is perfect, he isn’t. With Australian cricket being mired in scandal and only a handful of world class players, Langer seems an odd choice as coach when hired. Langer comes across as having a great attitude as a player, but a temperament totally unsuited to coaching this group of players with the amount of scrutiny. It’s not just the quality deficit compared to the teams Langer was part of, I just can’t see him handling more sensitive players well. Maybe he’ll turn it around but I think someone like Gillespie would make an interesting coach of this Australia team.
@FinalWordCricket3 жыл бұрын
Interesting observations. Gillespie certainly has a more laid-back style.

The whole culture revamp fiasco post sandpaper gate took the fire out of Aussies. Totally unnecessary. Look at India. Sledging the mickey out of opponents. Let’s get back to old ways of playing it intense and playing it hard. Feel for JL here. He has played with Warne and has to deal with Zampa

I think the problem are some of the players. They are not passionate enough. Professional sports isn't something you do on the side...it's something you have to be intense and passionate about to survive.

International players do not like hard taskmasters as coaches. They want gloried cheerleaders who don't try to boss them. The same thing happened with India coz Kohli did not like the "intense" working style of Kumble who is a legendary player but was shown the door as a coach.. Coaches that are good man managers, motivators and good at strategic planning do well these days rather than coaches who step on the toes of the players and try to be a control freak and get angry at them for their mistakes... Not too sure who is right in this but both sides seem to have valid points..

Never liked Langer. Results were quite poor. But plenty of teams have poor results. Australia is a team that expects success and hence, I feel it is justified to get rid of JL. But he was supposedly brought into the role because he would bring about a culture change. Watching the “Test” on Amazon prime, it was clear that JL’s philosophy was much of the same, but please don’t let anyone see you being a prick.
@FinalWordCricket3 жыл бұрын
The results would not necessarily be a problem on their own. But if players actively dislike working with a coach, that's not really resolvable.
