Agreed, but there's nothing that mandates "defensive driving" or "situational awareness" is to be taught as part of getting a license. Currently you just get to sit next to someone with a "full" license for a dictated number of hours, learning all their bad habits. At a bare minimum there should be a need for professional, standardised training from an accredited professional. But this won't happen as the politicians required to make that law would lose too many votes from the "but my freedumbs and rights" mob not get elected. Much easier (and more profitable) to blame it all on "speed" and ignore all the other, more common causes than actually attempt to do anything about it. We've got to lose this idea that driving is a right, it's not, it's a privilege and needs to be seen that way. Motorcyclists in most states have to attend and pass set courses both before getting a learners permit, and a license. Handling, emergency procedures , awareness and defensive driving are all a part of the course, as well as restrictions to the type of bike you can get initially. But a young P plater in a car with no idea can drive a high power "sports" car in most states. I have to admit, returning to bikes and doing those courses made me a better road user in general. It showed me that over the years I had learned so many bad habits and got so lazy it scared me.

I realized the driver behind was not going to stop (coming up very fast) so I drove forwards into the intersection a bit as he swerved to miss my now stationary vehicle as he /she/it blew straight through the red light. If I hadn't been paying attention, it would have been a good slam up the rear at about 50 + KPH. I had given him/her/it just enough space to swerve around (moved forwards about 1.5 - 2 metres). Out of all these accidents, only 3 can be attributed to excessive speed. The rest are all caused by inattention, failing to give way, or running red lights. All easily avoidable if people just followed the fucking road rules. Yet most of the money has been invested in speed cameras rather than getting police in patrol cars ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@anotheruserism2 жыл бұрын
so I guess there is no such thing as a red light camera! Fact is for the cost of one patrol car and staff to use it you can monitor 4 spots with cameras. Unless you are willing to pay income tax of around 75% then we simply can not afford emergency services, health and education spending people want.

And just to encourage that kind of bellend behaviour, police refused to take a case of criminal damage over it, even though he confessed on video, and even demanded I delete the footage because publishing it would be 'slander' (which from a legal standpoint is hilarious BS, but I didn't know that back then)

My head snapped back & forth 2 or 3 times. I was buzzing angry. Rightly too. The pain has stayed with me for 13 years and told it will never go if it’s not settled after 2 years.
